Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Today marks Markus’s fifth week at school.

It officially sucks.

The girls band together like an evil, pink mafia, with their matching clothes and phone cases.

And the boys don't seem to be anything like him.

Not like him being not gay.

Markus can’t do this, he really can’t. He assumes that everybody here is the same.

Until he runs into a little redhead near the lockers.

The same redhead he’s like

“Agh! Sorry.” His voice is high pitched but with a few voice cracks. “I- you- you’re the new kid, right?” Against his will, Markus blushes, suprised somebody in this hellhole knows who he is.

“Yeah, and you are..?” He tries to come off gruff and intimidating but he ends up just sounding mean.

“Ben, Ben O.” He says.

“There’s multiple?” Markus asks and gets rewarded with a smile. “Yup, me and the shorter one. He’s got the brown hair.” A small bottle of something sits in the palm of Ben’s hand. “What’s that?” Markus asks, reaching for it. The bright bottle disappears as fast as it appeared.

“Nothing.” A bright blush. “Anyways, I know we just met and it might be awkward or whatever but do you want to come to my house?” Markus can’t believe it. What? This cute boy wants me to come to his house? What?

“Y-yeah!” This is insane. Markus must be dead or dreaming.

“I- nobody ever wants to come over.” Definitely Dead. Nobody wants to come over to his house? Why? Can’t they see his beauty? What’s wrong with them?

After a solid four more hours of living hell and a decent lunch, Ben and Markus finally met outside of the school.

“Hey.”

“Hey.”

Ben’s cheeks and nose were flushed from the cold. It was so cute. It took all of Markus’s restraint and a little more to stop himself from launching toward Ben and kissing him.

“Shall we?”

Markus is dead. He’s dead. He’s-

“Hey,”

Markus is violently ripped from his thoughts at the sight of the beautiful redhead in front of him.

“Yeah?”

“You can bail you know.”

“No! I- no. No I’m coming.”

“Good.” A strong hand grasps his inner elbow and tugs him away.

After a short way home Ben closes his bedroom door behind him. Markus spins, in awe of the cool room around him. This kid shares all of his interests, all of his likes and dislikes. It’s awesome.

“So, yet again, I know we just met but I- I have something to tell you.” Markus’s head reels. What? Could it be happening? Really?

“I- me too. But you can go first.”

“Okay… Um let me give myself courage first.” Markus lets him, he gets it.

“Okay, alright so I kinda, like you. And I’m sorry if that’s gross or anything and you can hate me forever but I just needed to tell you.”

It’s not happening. This is not happening. Markus is dead. He’s dead.

“I like you too.” Markus says

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Cool.”

“Cool.” And smiles fill the room. Sunlight shines through the winter haze. Everything is perfect.

“Is this the part where we kiss?” Ben asks.

“Yeah, yeah, I think it is.”

And then they collide, mouths clashing and noses bumping. Markus’s hands hold Ben’s cheeks and Ben’s hold Markus’s waist. They kiss for a solid ten minutes and every time they break apart so Markus can kiss Ben’s neck and Ben can bury his nose in Markus’s hair. When they finally break apart, Their foreheads are pressed together.

“I think that this might not be just a friendship.”

“I think you’re right.”

Smiles are passed between the boys. Everything is perfect.
