Try Again

Summary:

“I don’t really care... It’s not like it bothers me.” He responds blandly.

Silvanna, who only chuckled at Granger’s response suddenly remembers something she had forgotten to mention to him a week ago after the Organization Fair.

“Oh, right. I forgot to tell you about something...” She says as she puts the plastic coffee cup down, staring right at Granger.

Granger glanced at her and raised a brow, “...What?”

In which

The day of Organization Fair comes—and Clubs are now open for students to find and join ones best for them. Organization Fairs are always great opportunities to club holders who are in need of members.

After the fair, one thing the raven wasn’t aware of was that he was unanimously signed in the Cheerleading Club during the Organization Fair. When Silvanna told him, he thought it was just Fanny messing with him, but turns out it wasn’t. So, who could the it be?

Notes:

Alucard is everyone’s campus crush, he’s not only known as an attractive, popular, Football Captain—but as a fellow top academic second-year student in the campus as well. Alucard plays football for his Faculty, which is Faculty of Sports Science.

He’s the kind of guy who has girls trailing behind him and getting asked for his number—but the kind of guy who would get called a jerk for turning down girls, even if they’re attractive or popular.

Whilst Granger is just your average, second-year gloomy student. A smart, popular, well-liked guy in campus—but keeps himself to himself. He’s a talented, academic star student. His faculty being Faculty of Law, who joined Music Club as to pursue his talent for music as he also becomes a trusted, club officer of his club.

Chapter 1: Is this some kind of prank?

Chapter Text

The pleasant, warmth of the sunlight hit Granger’s pale skin as he went down the short steps. His pace un-rushed, spotting his friends who were sat at a table, chit-chattering about nonsense.

They finished their first classes early, while the first class with this professor always seemed to over time. It doesn’t bother him, but it sure does make his back hurt sitting for at least another hour in that old man’s class.

Harith was the first to notice him, waving him over with an excited smile on his lips, he only nods awkwardly as he approaches the group closer.

“Finally! You’re here.” Says the white-haired boy.

Fanny snickers, both arms rested on the polished, stone table. “Yeah, finally.” She says.

“Seriously, how do you even survive that old man’s class?” Fanny says as she shakes her head lightly.

“I don’t really care... It’s not like it bothers me.” He responds blandly.

Silvanna, who only chuckled at Granger’s response suddenly remembered something she had forgotten to mention to him a week ago after the Organization Fair.

“Oh, right. I forgot to tell you about something...” She says as she puts the plastic coffee cup down, staring right at Granger.

Granger glanced at her and raised a brow, “...What?”

Silvanna clears her throat, suddenly looking serious—which made not only Granger confused, but also Fanny and Harith. “So, when I was looking through lists of clubs that had the names of their new members...” She trails off before continuing.

“—I nearly passed by the Cheerleading Club until I saw your name written on their list.”

Silence fills the group’s table for a moment except for the chirping sounds coming from the birds. Not until Fanny’s sudden burst of laughter replaced the silence.

“I thought you weren’t interested joining clubs this year?” Fanny’s tone sounded mocking as she continued to laugh.

“You signed up for Cheerleading Club...?” Silvanna added, blinking blankly at Granger.

Granger was trying to process in Silvanna’s words. His expression says it all with how puzzled he looks.

“Wha... What do you mean??”

Fanny stops her laughing as Granger spoke up, still, an evident smirk on her lips. Silvanna glances at Fanny back to Granger, looking just as unsure and baffled as he is.

“I never signed up for anything...?” He says, eyebrows furrowing slightly.

“Well, I don’t know.” Silvanna shrugs, picking up her coffee cup to take a sip.

Granger’s eyes immediately locks on Fanny, who was still smirking. His eyes narrowing at her. “Is this some kind of prank? It was you, wasn’t it?”

Fanny raised a brow at him, her smirk instantly disappearing at his sudden accusation. “What? No!

“What makes you think I have the time to make my way to the Cheerleading booth and sign your name on their list?” She huffed, crossing her arms.

Still, Granger was skeptical of her. Fanny, sensing this, made her tone sound serious. “I’m not lying! I was with Layla the whole time during that day.”

Ah, Right. Fanny and Layla are both in Student Council and Volunteer Club, which would mean she was busy during the whole day of Organization Fair.

“Since you haven’t showed up for like a week to their meetings—maybe they already gotten rid of you off the list?” Says Harith, who was looking back and forth the three the whole time.

Fanny nods, sighing. “I mean, he’s right. That’s how every clubs work anyway.”

“But still—who could’ve signed me up for Cheerleading Club?” Granger let out an annoyed huff.

Shit. Since it wasn’t fanny who he accused wrongly. Who could the it be? It’s not like he’d be interested in cheering either. Even if he were, he still wouldn't.

He doesn’t wanna see that damned blonde who’s been pestering him since First year. Well, he’s more than grateful Alucard’s finally stopped... Maybe because the rumours he’s been hearing were true. About this one girl who rumoured to be Alucard’s ‘girlfriend’.

Miya. The white haired girl from Faculty of Environmental Science. She’s became the secretary of Cheerleading club after retiring as the cheer Captain.

Still, sometimes he sees the two together, chatting and doing whatever. He even witnessed them sat together in the local café near their University. She would always make him laugh, smile the same way he would with him. God, that hurts.

But should he really care when he’s been nothing but busy? Well, maybe he does care a little, or more than a little. The only thing he’s glad about that he hasn’t seen him these days...

“...Granger?”

“....Grangeer..!”

“Granger!”

Harith says a third time, waving his palm infront of his face. Granger blinks, pushing Harith’s hand away from his view. “You suddenly went quiet there!”

Granger shakes his head lightly, letting out a sigh. “Ah, lack of sleep finally caught up to me” He jokes.

No. Not really. If anything, he's been also annoyed with how that white haired woman always lingers around Alucard. He just won't admit it, not to anyone, or himself.

“Ahem... As I was saying, Granger—you should probably confront whoever’s assigned to the list of members in that club.” Silvanna says, finally finishing the plastic cup of coffee as she sets it down.

Harith nods in agreement, “yeah! So you can find out who also signed you up.”

“That would be Miya.” Fanny adds in, “She’s the board secretary of the Cheerleading Club.” She states, leaning forward as she rests her arms on the table again.

“I’m sure you know her, so it won’t be hard to figure out the person who signed you up.” Fanny says as she stands up from her seat.

Of course he does... How can he not know the lover of Alucard? He’s seen that girl everywhere with Alucard. It’s almost a sore to his eyes seeing them together.

Anyway, I gotta get going! We’ve got another council meeting, so—see ya guys!” Before Fanny walks away, she glances at Granger with a playful smile on her lips. “And let me know when you find the person who did it.”

Just like that, Fanny walks off. Silvanna and Harith stands up from their seat as well, both having to go because they have class, the two waves Granger goodbye before heading back to the campus building. Leaving Granger all alone by himself.

He lets out a small sigh, having no other options but to listen to what Fanny said. And since he doesn’t have his classes any sooner, he’ll be at music club later.

“Oh well...”

He stood up and headed to the campus, making his way back to find the room of the Cheerleading Club. He doesn’t really know what schedule they have, so he may as well either ask a bunch of students or find Miya first.

Surprisingly, it didn’t take him long to find the cheer room. Since his Faculty was the head of the Cheerleading Club—But unfortunately for Granger as he stepped inside, a student who was just about to leave told him Miya wasn’t around and they don’t really practice on Wednesdays...

Though, before the student left, he told him that her faculty building was just near the Faculty of Political Science, and he knew where that was.

But this would mean he’d have to waste another minute of his time walking to Miya’s faculty building.

Granger stood there for a minute, letting out a low groan as he complains under his breath, “Why do I have to do this anyway...? They must’ve already taken me off anyway. I don’t wanna waste more of my time.”

He glanced at his watch that reads 8:45 AM. His next class would be in 45 minutes, so he had to get back before his next class starts. He didn’t waste time and started going down the stairs to head back to the campus.

Students pass by him as he got to the campus, walking down the hall where students linger and mind their own business, especially upperclassmen who mostly don’t really get classes on Wednesdays. Girls glance and giggle around him or as they pass by.

It’s honestly normal for him—but he’s never really taken interest on a girl... At all. Most people thought he and Silvanna had something, a rumour that went around but died down after a few weeks. Whatever rumours that goes around about him is never really true.

He doesn’t have time to worry about silly rumours about him when school works keeps him and his loud thoughts busy. But sometimes, keeping himself busy doesn’t always work when a certain someone always seem to like haunting his inner mind.

Once he has gotten his needed books from his locker, he heads to his class. Not late—just in time before the professor arrived. And once the professor did, their class started. After that, he went to his next class. As usual, his day was like no other. Just lectures and handed PT’s due on Friday.

Three hours of the lecture passes by, the professor dismisses the class as he grabs his papers and laptop. Students start packing up their stuffs, others already rushing out to leave. Granger stands up without having to pack anything, ready to head out of the classroom until a girl walks up to him.

“Hey—! Wait.”

Granger turns, his gaze turns to look down at the short brunette with a slight raised brow. No one dares to walk up to the gloomy raven—unless if they just want to ask for his line.

The girl turned flustered at his gaze, stammering with her words. “Uhm. The board secretary of the Cheerleading Club asked to have a word with you.”

Her eyes averted before landing back on him, with a tight grip on her books. “Meet her at the Cheer Room, and I suggest you go now.”

...uh, alright.” He mutters awkwardly, “Thanks for telling me.” He adds.

The girl only nods and rushes past him to head out of the room, he blankly blinks twice, no words to ask further as he watches the girl go. He only heads out of the room and plans to make his way to his locker first before going back to the cheer room.

“Why now when I was literally looking for her hours ago?” He huffs.

Since he also has to go to his Club to watch over and help the newbies—his club will probably function just fine without him with the club president being there, who is none other but Joy, while Melissa and Brody are there to assist her with the club

Though Brody isn’t an official club member, they trust him enough as last year he was also the one who performed in their band for the festival event when they needed to replace their guitarist who unfortunately gotten sick.

After he returned his items to his locker, he takes the stairs up and heads up to 3rd floor, where the room of the Cheerleading Club is. He passes by rooms until he stops by the same room he had entered.

Before he even enters, the door suddenly swings open, revealing a woman—her white hair tied up in a ponytail. Her purple orbs meets Granger’s crimson eyes, her expression seems to have soften, a sudden smile appearing on her lips.

Oh! There you are.” She says, taking her hand off the door handle. “I thought I would’ve needed to come looking after you.”

“...Well—I’m here now. Plus, I was looking for you, too.” Granger responds, his tone neutral.

Miya chuckles softly, “So... It seems you already know what’s this about.”

Let’s make this quick. Who was the person that signed me up?” He demands bluntly, crossing his arms against his chest.

She clears her throat awkwardly, putting her hands behind her back. “...Well, about that, too. I was the one who had the list, and while I was re-checking—I didn’t expect to see your name on our list.” She pauses, smiling stiffly.

“There were a lot of people lined up in our booth, and of course, I wasn’t the only one who was there to have people sign up. I had to ask the one who gave me that list your name was on, but said she didn’t notice at all.” She presumes as she rubs the back of her nape sheepishly, hoping Granger would understand.

Granger listens to her explanation, she’d expect some words from him at least, but only a sighs comes out from him. “Well... It’s not like you guys can find out who that person is easily.”

Miya nods with an apologetic look on her face. “We’re terribly sorry for this. If I didn’t tell one of my members to find you, you would’ve probably not known about this...” Miya says.

“A friend told me—so, that was kind of the reason why I said I was looking for you, too.” He remarks before adding, “But it’s all good, I’m sure you have already taken my name off the list... Right?”

Silence formed between the two before an awkward chuckle comes out from Miya—who has a sudden pleading look on her face. “Well, here’s the thing...” her words trails off, making Granger feel stiff.

“We’ve already submitted the roster like last week ago. I know you didn’t sign up for our club...” she paused, looking at him with a hopeful, pleading look. “But we’re short on one member, and I hope—maybe you would consider helping us out just this semester?”

Granger froze, his stare blank. She continues to stare at him with that pleading look full of hope, making him avert his eyes. “Uh.. I don’t think I’d be the suitable guy to join in your club...” He mutters as his uncomfortable gaze lands on her.

He's just speaking his mind. For a dull looking guy like him who doesn’t even like crowds and hanging out with people in general—his imagination of being a cheerleader looks kind of cursed...

“What do you mean? Not suitable for our club? No way! People fawn over you!” She remarks, shaking her head lightly.

“I’m not saying we take in people who are popular, or attractive, we’re accepting of any members as long as they’ve done or knows cheerleading.” Miya states, still—she continues with that look.

“Well, I don’t even know anything about being a cheerleader.” He sighs, “I’m pretty untalented with other things.” He adds, having to downplay himself just so she’d understand.

Like I said! We’re accepting of members, even ones with new experience.” She repeats, eyes expectant as she pleads once again. “So—just for this semester. Could you help us out?”

As she begs again—it seems there’s no way to say "No" to this woman at all when he can’t even put the words himself. A reluctant look on Granger’s face is obvious, wanting to attempt on rejecting the offer... Saying ‘No' for Granger is never hard, but why now does it seem hard to say it?

Why is he so hesitant about it as if he's actually considering it? If it means joining, he’d be cheering for that stupid blondie, too! Plus, he’s honest about not knowing a single shit about cheerleading.

And that isn't the only problem. He can’t ever make himself face Alucard again, especially with how shit he’s treated him. So... Maybe the least he can do is agree to his lover's offer?

“Just this semester.” Her words repeat in Granger’s head, making him blink blankly. Her words basically translate to “Join cheerleading club for four months.” It isn’t just this semester. With how busy he mostly is, he can’t even promise to hangouts with his group. Can he even commit to practices?

It’s already a curse imagining himself be a cheerleader. Fanny would definitely tease him about it too...

Hey! You still there?” Miya snaps him out of his train of thoughts, glancing up at him as she tilts her head to the side.

Granger stammers, “Uhm—yeah, I am.”

“So... What do you say? Will you join our club?” She asks, once again.

There was silence between the two once again, a minute passes by until he finally speaks. “...fine.” he mutters lowly.

Miya can’t be hearing this right—or, did she hear that right? But just to make sure...

Huh? Wait, say it again.”

I said—fine.” He huffed.

Yes!” Miya exclaims out of excitement, a joyful smile plastered on her lips.

“I’ll have to go and—” her words cuts off, catching herself there as she nearly just said the wrong words.

Granger raises a brow at her, she glances at him awkwardly with a sheepish smile, “Ahem, I mean—I’ll have to go tell them they don’t need to redo the documents.” She corrects herself, giving him a thankful look.

“Anyway, I’ll go ahead and stop wasting your time. We have practice tomorrow, so make sure to come!” She informs him before patting his shoulder and walking off.

“See ya tomorrow!” She smiles as she walks off.

Granger stands there with a blank look on his face, not knowing whether he had just made the biggest regret of agreeing to her offer.

His face says it all—and it’s enough to say he did regret agreeing to it.

He doesn’t even know how he’ll be able to explain this to his friends later, knowing he’ll face the mocking of Fanny. Or possibly Harith laughing at him, too.

And while he contemplates, Miya walks away proudly, it was actually surprising for her that she even made Granger agree despite not having to pursue him harder.

And in fact, today, she has someone to prove wrong whilst she walks with a smug cat kind of look like she had won something—and without a doubt, she did.

Notes:

Later at the local cafe shop...

"Well? Did you find out who it was?" Silvanna asked, another coffee cup in hand. This was her third cup this day.

"..."

Granger stayed silent for a good minute. Fanny and Harith eyes Granger, waiting for his answer.

"You said Miya had a talk with you, what did she say?" Harith chimes in as he raises a brow.

"Yeah... So—uhm," As much as he doesn't want to get mocked by Fanny, he's trying his best to think of an excuse for this.

"Miya begged me, so I just ended up joined their club instead."

Fanny gives him a side eye, snickering—and just like that, she bursts into laughter, having to be smacked by Silvanna to lower her laughter down.
