Thank you

Summary:

The sun's rays shine through the stained glass of the arched windows in the abandoned music hall, filled with unexpected music from two strangers.

Or

Vessel hears a violist inside of his music hall often and decides to join them.

Notes:

Just a little short story I came up with at around 3 in the morning so hopefully it makes coherent sense :)

Work Text:

The suns cays shine through the stained glass of the big windows carved into the dark wood. I open the double doors into the open space room, the floors creaking as I walk across them.

The faint sound of birds chirping from outside are heard within the walls. I walk over to my viola resting lightly On a wooden chair. It's dark cherry wood and black tuning pegs a beautiful complementary to one another. I pick up the instrument and bow, starting to play a piece I have memorized note for note.

Without warning, the, organ within the walls of the music hall begins to play the song I am, picking up where I left off with the surprising low notes of the organ. I follow the music into the room that holds the beautiful instrument and see a figure cloaked in dark green.

Silently, I lift my viola up to my shoulder, joining back into the piece where the unknown organist is at, smiling to myself at the elegance of the combined chords of the two instruments. The song slowly comes to an end and I lift my bow off of the violas strings.

" Thank you." I whisper to the figure, though they get up and leave the music hall, disappearing into the fall afternoon sunset.

I place my viola gently on a similar chair to the one I found it on and make my way across the wooden floor to the other side of the room, where the organ
is. I take a seat where the figure was and look at the keys of the instrument, which have faint symbols on the ivory. I glance up at something that catches my eye.

Sheet music.

Though it's not random at all as the notes correctly read the piece the cloaked figure and I played, arranged the same way that I had it memorized.

The only difference was that this copy had scribbles of notes and reminders of key changes and time signatures.

I can't remember exactly how long I was sitting there, looking at the two page song left behind, as if the figure wanted me to find it. Soon, my eyes break away from it in my hands, and a small glance tells me the sun has already set.

Something in my gut tells me to flip the pages over, to which I do, seeing two small words on the back.

"Thank you."
