the children of another man

Summary:

Sappy as it was, Sae truly never imagined his heart could be so full.

It had only been a few weeks since Akiko Itoshi came home from the hospital, and Sae looked forward to every shared moment.

Teal eyes matched his, studying the world in a careful yet curious way that showed promise. Sae hoped—no, he knew—she would grow up to become someone extraordinary, just like himself.

Notes:

Yeah I named their kid after a BSD character (Akiko Yosano) so what.

Work Text:

Sappy as it was, Sae truly never imagined his heart could be so full.

It had only been a few weeks since Akiko Itoshi came home from the hospital, and Sae looked forward to every shared moment.

Teal eyes matched his, studying the world in a careful yet curious way that showed promise. Sae hoped—no, he knew—she would grow up to become someone extraordinary, just like himself.

The arrival of dark lower lashes and the beginnings of pale upper lashes filled him with unease at first, but over time the colors had begun to even out. Now her eyes were framed by barely-blonde eyelashes instead of the mismatched lashes he was worried about.

Privately, he wished Akiko had pink eyes like Shidou, but at the same time, Sae was pleased their baby took on so many of their traits.

Tan skin, blonde hair, thick eyelashes, teal eyes—she really was a perfect combination of her parents.

As a reward—really just because—Sae bounced her lightly, smiling softly as she giggled. He hummed a lullaby to her quietly, one that their mother had always hummed to his brother.

Walking in, Rin made a beeline to the two of them. Sitting down beside him, he poked her lightly in the tummy, making her squeal. She reached for the new hand with unobstructed enthusiasm, clutching his finger with her tiny fists.

“She’s so cute,” Rin said, eyes bright in a way they hadn’t been since they were kids themselves.

“She is,” Sae agreed.

Shidou walked in and pressed a kiss to his husband’s cheek. Wordlessly, Sae passed Akiko to Rin.

“Thanks again for babysitting,” his brother said.

Sae’s heart, still so full, squeezed painfully, and he said his goodbyes before going home to an empty house.

Notes:

I don't really ship Ryurin, but this idea came to me while I was listening to undressed by sombr and I could NOT let that go.
