Work Text:
Percy lies in bed, her long hair fanned out around her head like a halo.
Percy was in Cabin 3, she had arrived earlier that day and Annabeth had yet to arrive, which didn't make the whole ‘sleeping’ situation any better.
Ever since Tartarus Percy and Annabeth had been inseparable, and not in the cute couplish best friend way but in the way that they understand each other, and being together? Working through things together? It makes the pain just a little more bearable.
Needless to say, Percy missed Annabeth. Sure they had been separated less than 24 hours, it was still separation, and it still stung like salt on a wound.
So, there Percy lay, not really awake but stubbornly fighting off sleep. She was losing. When Percy eventually drifted to sleep the nightmares started immediately - Percy was pretty sure that wasn't how sleep worked but she supposes that one perk of being a demigod is constant dreams that defy
Freshman year health class.
When unconsciousness pulled her under, the first thing Percy noticed was she couldn’t breathe. Her lungs were constricting, toxic air coming in and nothing coming out. She lets out a wheezing gasp and opens her eyes to slits, and there, staring back at her are the endless plains of tartarus.
“Annie?” Percy coughs out, her voice rasping out, barely carrying across the noel indefinite expanse around her.
"Perce?" A small voice behind her asks, Percy recognizes that voice, she would recognize that voice anywhere
"Annie'" Percy cries, scanning her surroundings for any signs of her girlfriend. "Annabeth!”
Then she sees her. Annabeth is lying on the ground, her own ruby red blood pooling around her, soaking into her hair that frames her face like a crown. Buried in her stomach the hilt of a familiar swore, Riptide.
"Annie!” Percy calls out, her voice hoarse, coughing from the poisonous air. Percy runs to her girlfriend's side, sliding down next to her. "Annie, oh Annie. It’ll be ok, I promise, Annie."
" You did this." Annabeth's voice rings out clear, blood coats her lips and face, she's coughing it up.
"Wh-What?' Percy stutters out, her hands hovering near the wound, trying to find a way to help but unsure how. Annabeth's hand shoots up, gripping Percy's wrist.
“All your fault. You killed me Percy.” her voice breaks slightly on Percy’s name. Annabeth’s hand falls. Her breathing stops.
“No no no no no,” Percy murmurs, shaking Annabeth’s body. "Annie wake up, Annie please, Annabeth,” Percy’s in tears now, sobs wracking her body.
"Реrcy…” A voice drifts from behind the crying girl, her head swivels and behind her - oh gods - there are so many. Countless rows of family, friends, demigods, all dead. All Percy’s fault. She sees Estelle, Grover, her Mom, Nico and more and more and more and-
"Percy!” Percy's being shaken and all of a sudden she's awake, Annabeth kneeling over her, worry shines in her eyes.
"Annie-” Percy's voice breaks, her breathing is interrupted by gut wrenching sobs.
“Hey hey, it’s okay Perce, I got you, I got you."Annabeth says as Percy falls into her. Percy buries her face in Annabeth's shirt and cries, Annabeth holds her, one hand clutching Percy's head and the other her back. Annabeth buries her own head into Percy's hair, whispering to her as her breathing steadies.
Percy pulls her head away slightly to stare up at Annabeth, tear tracks tracing their way down her cheeks, her ocean eyes holding a depth only accomplished by pain. Annabeth carefully brings their lips together, brushing feather light kisses across the other girl's forehead, holding her securely, before whispering into her hair.
“Love you Percy”
“Love you too Wise Girl”
