Chapter Text
The fall ends in a shrill screech of metal and the dull thud of a body making contact with it, the windshield explodes outward, leaving a spray of glass to trickle on the concrete and slice up Tim's fingers.
For a second there is only a ringing noise in his ear and the harsh sound of his own laboured breathing.
Then the car alarm starts wailing, leaving Tim to groan in frustration and agony. He attempts to look to his right to figure out where he is, but the second his eyes start tracking a street lamp he quickly has to close them, as what feels like daggers pierce his skull.
He just lies there, his chest rises and falls unevenly, jaw slack, an arm flung out awkwardly over the driver side window.
He passively watches two shadows jump from the rooftop, landing unceremoniously on the solid pavement, and rushing towards him.
In any other circumstance he would likely be alarmed, but his brain feels so distant from his body that he can’t help but close his eyes.
–
Dick is on the hood of the car in seconds, immediately beginning careful attempts at rousing Tim's consciousness.
Dick frantically removes Tim's domino mask, prying open his eyes and quickly flashing a penlight at them.
Tim makes a low, irritated sound and sluggishly tries to pull his head away.
“I know, I know” Dick murmurs, “I’m sorry im almost done”
Tim lets out a weak breathy cry.
Dick holds Tim's jaw and temple and continues checking his pupils. He apologizes again when Tim's eyes start to water, but he has just enough time to see how sluggish Tim's pupils are.
Dick lowers the penlight and Tim releases a relieved sigh.
Tims gaze shifts, unfocused, “Iss so loud" he mutters, his voice slurred and strained.
Jason disregards Tim's comment, “Tim, do you remember what happened?”
A pause…
“Jay it's so loud”, Tim repeats, seemingly unaware of Jason's question, Dick looks up at Jason with a look that could border on fear.
“Alright Tim, don’t move okay, I’m just going to check you for more injuries”
Tim moans softly but other than that doesn't respond.
Jason stays at Tim's head, holding it in place to assure no further injury.
Dick starts at Tim's shoulders, squeezing his arms all the way down to his wrists, his fingers twitch inward when Dick presses the center of Tim's palms, which is a good sign.
Jason keeps his face hovering over Tim, making sure Tim doesn’t try to look down.
“Buddy, can you tell me how many fingers I'm holding up?”
“...Four”
“Alright, good.”
Dick methodically presses around Tim's ribcage, Tim flinches and gasps, the tenderness around his ribs suggests bruising is present, but thankfully no fractures.
Dick proceeds to assess Tim's abdomen carefully, checking for signs of internal bleeding.
“Tim, does this hurt?”
“..Dunno”
His abdominal muscles aren’t tensing when he presses, so for now the assessment looks promising.
He moves down to Tims legs, he grips Tims right thigh gently and squeezes, no reaction.
“Tim”
“Yeah”
“Are you feeling that?”
“Feeling what..?”
Dick presses harder. What would usually be painful is eliciting no response from Tim.
Dick moves down to Tim's calf, lifting it.
“Tim can you feel me lifting your leg”
“I- What..” Tim says, disoriented, not realizing the gravity of the situation.
Dicks heart races. He slides a hand under Tim's knee and repeated the process on Tim's other leg, receiving the same result, Tim's foot hanging loose in his grip.
Jason locks eyes with Tim, Dick carefully shakes his head, making sure Tim doesn’t realize what's happening.
Jason clears his throat and continues talking with Tim while Dick goes over the comms, methodically reporting Tim's symptoms.
As Jason rambles on about his day, deliberately keeping Tim calm, Tim's gaze unfocuses, his shoulders twitch and his mouth parts, shallow breaths breaking into pained noises.
“W-why Can’t I-”
Tim becomes restless, squirming as if it would somehow help him escape the pain, but his legs remained completely unresponsive
Jason knows the adrenaline and shock is wearing off, in a few moments Tim will fully realize the severity of his injuries, the visceral pain is bound to set in, so, in a rare gesture of comfort, he runs his thumb over Tim's cheekbone, hushing him and murmuring reassurances, keeping him grounded.
Somewhere down the street, the roar of the batmobile sounds in the distance, a promise of help.
