Work Text:

Trucy Wright was not fine.

Today was the big day, the day of her first big show. It was a rehearsal for the real show in only two (!!) days, but there would still be a big crowd, the place was sold out she'd heard, and if everything went well the show would even be broadcasted on TV. She had been practising for weeks, ignoring Apollo’s worried looks, to make sure that everything would be right. Everything had to be right. And yet, she couldn't help but think about what would happen if everything didn't go right.

It had to be perfect.

It wasn't really helping that her father wasn't there to support her, either. He had left to meet Mystic Maya after she had finished her spirit medium training and would not return for another three weeks. She wasn't even sure if Apollo and Athena would come to watch her show. They had been so busy with the agency lately, she wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have time for her.

She whipped out her phone and ticked in her dad’s number for the fifth time that day. Just like the other four times, it went to voicemail. She sighed and sat down on one of the stools. Her father must be busy with something. Trouble was attracted to him like metal to a magnet, after all.

“Excuse me?” She jumped up at the sound of knocking at the door. “I have flowers for you, miss Wright.”

“Oh! Coming~!” Trucy opened the door to accept the bouquet of flowers from the assistant. “Thank you!” she said with a smile, and closed the door again when the assistant left to do other assistant things.

Flowers from Nine-Tails Vale. Nine-Tails flowers, Apollo had called them. She had laughed at him for coming up with such a lame name. She herself would've called them something cool, like ‘Foxbite’ or ‘Nine Suns’.

She put the flowers in a vase on her desk and removed the envelope that was attached to it. She hastily opened the envelope, heart beating with excitement. Inside were a card and a letter. She decided to take a look at the card first, which had an image of the Amazing Nine-Tails beating Tenma Taro in an epic fight. On the back of the card, it said ‘good luck! - Damian and Jinxie Tenma’.

Trucy put the card down and smiled. They hadn't forgotten about her. It had been a while since she had visited Nine-Tails vale. She had been too busy with school and her magic tricks to come visit, so Jinxie often dropped by at the agency, waiting outside until Trucy would come home or notice her desperate texts asking her to come outside. Trucy supposed Jinxie was still a bit afraid of the Demon Lawyer.

Still smiling at the memories, she unfolded the letter, revealing its contents.

'Dear Trucy,

It has been a while since we last met. I hope you've been well.

I myself have been very good! Please tell Mr. Demon Lawyer I said thank you for everything. Thanks to him, I overcame my fears and now I'm not afraid of yokai anymore!’

Trucy remembered how she and Jinxie would run around town, using her magic tricks to ‘beat’ the evil yokai. The way Jinxie looked at her with amazement as she performed the tricks made her feel like she could beat any evil spirit on this world. Even now, by just reading this letter Jinxie had written for her - for her! - she felt like she could perform any magic trick with ease.

'And guess what? I've even become friends with yokai like Ittan Momen and Konaki Jiji! I'll introduce you next time you come here. I'm sure they'll love your magic tricks! They're the best thing I've ever seen.

I really want to see you again sometime. If you cannot come to my village, I will go to the agency again. Maybe I'll even go inside… If Mr. Demon Lawyer is not around.’

Trucy smiled. She knew it.

‘I really do hope we can meet again soon. I miss your laugh, and your magic tricks, and the way you always make me smile by just being you. I miss your aura of positivity and the way you're excited about everything, even just doing homework with me. I… miss you.

Good luck with your big show tonight. You can do it, I believe in you! I asked Ittan Momen and Konaki Jiji to watch over you, so don't worry about anything going wrong. I wish you all the best!

With love,

Jinxie ♡’

At the end of the letter were multiple hearts, scribbled in red pencil. Trucy held the letter tightly to her chest and sighed happily. She, too, missed Jinxie very much. She wanted to see her laugh again at her jokes that weren't actually that funny, and hold her soft hand while they were walking through town, looking for a place to eat that wasn't full of yokai.

She put down the letter next to the card and took out her phone again, this time more determined. She opened up her messages.

‘are you busy this saturday?’

The reply came within a minute.

‘I always have time if a certain blue magician wants to visit me’

‘see you this weekend then! ==| :-)

She put down her phone and spun around in a circle. She was going to see Jinxie again this weekend, and meet her new yokai friends. Not only that, but Jinxie thought of her and supported her, even believed in her. Thinking about it made her heart flutter. She felt like she could do anything.

Trucy Wright was going to be fine.
