Chapter Text
Well, where this story begins, we are in a theater setting where you can see two girls, one with a purple top hat and a yellowish-gold cape and the other, blonde, with a red hood and surprisingly a mustache.
The girl with the hat had an hourglass in her hands, but then the girl with the mustache (whom we will call MU for simplicity) snatched it away and began to throw it around in her hand while looking at her.
"What are these things for?" MU asked. "Are they some kind of collectible for nerds?"
"MU, wait, don't play with that!" Hat Kid said, somewhat agitated.
"Or else ... " Before he could finish, the watch he was holding slipped from his hand. Hat Kid ran to catch it. Unfortunately, he didn't make it in time, and it fell to the ground, breaking.
A light came out of the clock, blinding MU and Hat Kid, then the light stopped and the clock returned to normal.
—And what are these for...? Wait, what? —Mu said confused, still in the pose she was in before with the watch, but the latter was on the repaired floor, Mu looked at it confused and surprised before picking it up.
"Oh, no," Hat Kid whispered, frightened, but he couldn't hear her.
"Wow, what was that! We just went back in time!" she said, very surprised. "Did you know anything about that, Hat Kid?"
"Yes," said Hat Kid, nodding somewhat uncomfortably.
"That's insane! Do you know what we could do with this?" Mu exclaimed, running alongside Hat Kid, still clutching the watch, super excited. "We could make sure the mafia never beat you up that time! Or we could beat them up, travel back in time, and beat them up again!"
Hat Kid said , somewhat frightened, but Mu continued
"Wait a minute! We could make sure the mafia never gets to the island!" Mu said, super excited.
—MU— said Hat Kid with more force, but Mu again did not shield her.
—Wait a minute! Wait, wait! Even better! We could be time travelers fighting crime! What could we call ourselves? Oh, I know, we'll call ourselves...!
"MU, NO! " Hat Kid shouted angrily, surprising Mu.
"What? Why not?" Mu said, surprised and somewhat frightened by Hat Kid's shout.
"It's just that..." Hat Kid said nervously, but he didn't finish the sentence.
"What? Don't tell me you're supporting evil now," said Mu, who was starting to get angry.
"No! I don't support evil, it's just that..." Hat Kid said nervously, thinking about what to say, "you know that playing with time has consequences and..."
— Oh yeah , and if something bad happens, we'll travel and stop it — said Mu, paying no attention to what Hat said Kid — besides, if it's that serious, we'll just get rid of the mafia and that's it, easy as that
"It's not that easy," Hat Kid said nervously, looking at the floor and to the side without looking directly at Mu. "The clocks are..."
—They're yours, now you're not going to share them—she said angrily , but Hat Kid didn't answer
— HEY, EARTH TO HAT KID, WHAT, DON'T TELL ME YOU GOT FOND OF THE MAFIA, YOU KNOW YOU JUST BLOWN UP THEIR BOSS RIGHT, I BET THEY WON'T SEE YOU AS A FRIEND ANYMORE.
—No, it's just that... — she said , but was instantly interrupted by Mu.
—BECAUSE YOU 'RE NOT GOING TO USE YOUR WATCHES TO DESTROY EVIL!— Mu said
"BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANOTHER PLANET DESTROYED, OKAY!" Hat yelled . Kid, something that scared Mu.
—that... you— said Mu.
Realizing what he had just said, he Kid couldn't take it anymore, he knelt down and began to cry uncontrollably as he remembered what happened to his home.
—Everyone I loved, my parents, my friends, EVERYONE, dead—she said sadly, as tears streamed down her cheeks and she tried to wipe them away with her hands—AND IT'S ALL THOSE STUPID CLOCKS' FAULT!
While Hat Kid was crying, Mu, who knew how it felt to lose her home and knew that she had messed up, looked at the watch she still held in her hand with disgust, then at Hat Kid, and then sat down next to her and spoke to her to try to comfort her, putting the watch aside.
—I had no idea, I'm sorry, really—she said, very sorry for shouting—when you said you needed those watches I thought you were just a selfish person, but now I see the reason, believe me, I know how it feels, you're calm and suddenly everything you had is gone because of others.
—But you still have it, mine's gone—said Hat Kid, who was now just sobbing, sitting with his head between his knees, his characteristic hat having fallen off his head.
—I mean, I do have it, but... never mind—Mu said, realizing his plan hadn't worked—I just wanted to help, sorry, Hat Kid
—Hattier— she replied more calmly but still looked at him—my name is Hattier, Hati for short.
—What you!... well... it's... it's a nice name—she said sincerely , though still regretful.
After a long silence, Mu thought about how badly Hati had suffered these last few days. She had fought with a lot of mobsters, forced her to join their rebel group, and had recently fought with the mafia leader, who was not easy to defeat, while she was using her to take down the mafia and then wanted to betray her. This made Mu feel bad.
I was going to return the favor.
"You know, if you say those watches are so dangerous, we shouldn't just sit around crying and suffering over the past," Mu said resolutely.
—What do you mean?— Hati asked, confused
—I mean, I'll help you find the other watches so they don't fall into bad hands— said Mu, getting up from the floor and looking Hati straight in the eye—you said they're dangerous and all that stuff about temporary objects, right?
Hati was surprised by Mu's statement; she thought she was supposedly only looking out for herself, but then she offered her help in finding the watches. She couldn't believe it.
— So , what do you say, partner Rebe... — Mu paused and thought — wait, never mind, how about *guardians of time*, better, right?
—Yes...better— he replied more cheerfully, getting up from the floor, picking up his hat and looking at her —it's very... creative
—What can I say, I'm a master of names—she said confidently, making Hati giggle .
"Where's the clock?" Hati asked.
—Right here, take it— said Mu, taking the watch and handing it to Hati— Okay, now what?
—Hold on to me— Hati said, and Mu obeyed—hold on
When she said that, she raised the watch above her. A light surrounded them and lifted them into the sky towards Hati's ship. Mu (for obvious reasons) screamed throughout the journey.
"Baby," Hati said mockingly as they reached the ship.
—Shut up!— Mu replied, annoyed
—Well, I'll go get the sleeping bags and pajamas, since my room is locked we won't be able to sleep in it— said Hati and headed under the slide in the mailroom
—Wait , sacks? I mean, plural?— Mu asked
—Yes, do you think I'll let you sleep in a cave? If you're going to help me, I should at least give you lodging on my ship until we're finished—Hati replied
—Ah, okay—said Mu, but before Hati arrived, he turned to look at Mu—ah, and Mu...thank you
-Because?
"For helping me," she replied, looking happy. "I never thought I would receive help."
—Oh, it's nothing, that's what friends are for, right?
—Or rather... best friends.
—Yes, I guess so... best friends—Mu said nervously, which made Hati giggle again.
