Chapter 1: Gringotts

Chapter Text

Harry woke up on July 12th 1993, exactly 2 weeks after he left Hogwarts, to the 7 locks on his door being slowly unlocked one after the other. It was probably Aunt Petunia coming to wake him up to start his chores. He had been dreaming about what happened in the Chamber, he had a really weird feeling in his chest ever since he had saved Fred and George's little sister.

Harry jumped a little as he heard Petunia shout “hurry up you freak. You need to get started on our breakfast before Vernon and Dudders get up, now hurry up and get downstairs or you will not be allowed to eat for the next 3 days.” He practically ran down the stairs to start before his aunt could hit him for being slow.

Once downstairs he started on making his aunt, uncle and cousin their food. All of a sudden Harry is hit in the back of the head by something. Before he could turn to see who had hit him he heard the tell tale sound of his cousin's ugly laughter. Harry turned and saw his cousin still holding the smeltings stick that he had clearly just used to hit Harry.

Suddenly Harry heard his Uncle coming down the stairs for breakfast so he just turned back around and started to plate the food he had made for the Dursleys. He had made a full english breakfast knowing that his uncle and cousin love fatty greasy foods the most in the morning. As he puts the last serving plate in the middle of the table he steps back and looks at what he made. There were platters of black bacon, sausages, fried eggs, baked beans, grilled and fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms and a large stack of toast. He was always very proud of his cooking but he's never actually been allowed to eat any of it.

As soon as the Dursleys sat around the table Vernon said “What are you waiting for boy, get back to your room and no food for 2 days.” Harry gaped at his uncle as that would mean he would have gone a full 2 weeks without eating anything apart from the apple he had taken from the leaving feast at Hogwarts and ate 2 days after he arrived back at the Dursleys as they hadn't seen fit to feed him and the granola bar he had found in the cupboard he had found 4 days ago but now he was regretting eating them so soon after leaving Hogwarts. He turned and left the kitchen and went back to Dudley's second bedroom, as it will never be his room no matter how long he uses it for.

As he opens the door he is shocked as there is a very regal looking owl sitting on the back of the old wooden chair by the equally old desk in the room. It seems to be holding a very thin envelope. He looks over at Hedwig's cage to see her eyeing this new owl with a very curious look in her bright amber eyes. As he walks slowly into the room the mystery owl quickly turns its head from where it was watching Hedwig and flies up to him and drops the envelope into Harry's hands and suddenly the owl was no longer in the room. Hedwig's expression now made sense to Harry.

He looks down at the envelope now held in his hands and sees that it's from Gringotts the Goblin run bank. Curious as to why the bank would ever try to contact him and a little worried something is wrong with the vault his parents had set up for him. He turns the envelope over to open it. He pulls the parchment out and unfolds it. As he reads the parchment he gets more and more confused. When he gets to the end he goes back to the start and reads it slower this time.

Dear Heir potter-black

We at Gringotts are writing to you due to the fact you never collected your Heirship/Lordship rings when you came to the bank on your 11th birthday and as you have multiple rings it is important that you collect them. We have been trying to contact you ever since. This missive is a portkey when you are available just hold the parchment and say ‘Gringotts’ and it will transport you directly into the atrium of the Diagon Ally branch of the bank. Ask at one of the desks to be taken to your Account Managers office and they will bring you to me.

May you gold ever flow
Account Manager Rockfist

Harry is confused and all he can think is ‘but my last name is just Potter where did Black come from’. He has no clue what to do so looks up at Hedwig to ask what she thinks. He tells her what the missive said and asks what he should do. Hedwig looks at Harry then at the missive and then the window with a knowing look in her eyes. Harry watches this reaction and just knows she is telling him he should go, so he opens the cage and lets her out his window so that she could go hunt so she's not alone in this house without him there to protect her.

Harry looks down at the missive and takes a deep breath, he knows his clothes are probably not very presentable but there is nothing he could do about that as all of his clothes look about the same. He takes another deep breath and in a quiet voice that was more a whisper than anything else he says “Gringotts.”

As the word passes over his lips he feels like he is being pulled by a hook behind his navel and the next thing he knows he is being surrounded by a whirlwind of sounds and colours before he is unceremoniously dumped on the floor in Gringotts. As Harry stood up from the floor he looked around. It hasn't changed a whole lot since he came the summer before last with Hagrid.

Once he has gotten to his feet he looks to see if any of the Goblins are free, he sees one at the very back of the atrium so he walks over to them and waits to be spoken to. The Goblin looks down over the desk between them and asks “ what do you want”.

Harry looks at his feet nervously as he says “um sorry to disturb you Mr Goblin sir but I got a missive from Account Manager Rockfist asking me to come in for something and I was hoping you would be able to take me to him if at all possible”

Gripstone is shocked by the little Wizard in front of his desk as Wizards are not normally polite to Goblins or anyone with creature blood. The last time he spoke to a polite Wizard was 12 years ago. But he jumps down to the floor on the other side of his desk and motions for the little Wizard to follow him.

Harry follows the Goblin through the bank and is in complete awe of what he sees in the corridor around him as he follows them. All along the wall are the heads of so many large creatures. He can see the heads of an Acromantula, a Chimaera, a Dragon, some kind of serpent and so many others. Harry half expected to see a Basilisk head but didn't. He turns to ask the Goblin he followed to ask about them but almost walks into them as they had stopped. He looks around to see why they had only to realise they were stopped in front of a very large ornate door.

The Goblin knocks and says something in a language Harry does not understand. They then opened the door to allow Harry entry to the room. Harry managed to thank them just before they left. He turned to take in the room he had entered and noticed another Goblin he assumed was Rockfist sat behind a very large, very beautiful oak desk with an emerald green chair on his side of said desk to which Harry sits in when indicated to by Rockfist.

Rockfist gives Harry a long look and then starts to speak in a very deep gravely voice “first my name is Rockfist but before we talk about anything of importance we need to do an inheritance test to make sure you are who you say you are.”

Rockfist opens a drawer in his desk and pulls a golden bowl, a dagger with an emerald encrusted handle, a piece of parchment and a strange silver coloured potion. Once he has placed all the items on the desk between them he opens the potion and empties it into the bowl. He then looks up again and says “all you must do is make a small cut in your wand hands index finger, hold it above the bowl and allow 7 drops of your blood to fall into it.”

Harry looks sceptically at Rockfist but does as he's told. He slowly reached out to take the dagger with his left hand and placed the blade tip against the index finger of his right hand to break the skin. Once he feels the blood start to well up he reaches over and places the dagger back on the table for a moment and squeezes his finger to allow the needed 7 drops of his blood into the bowl with the potion. Once the blood that is needed is in the bowl he picks up the dagger again and wipes all his blood off it into the dark jean shorts he was wearing. Once that's done he puts the blade back onto the table and looks at Rockfist with a questioning look on his face.

Rockfist picked up the golden bowl and swirled the mixture around until it was fully combined, then he poured all the mixture over the parchment and Harry watched as the potion and blood mixture seemed to dissipate into it. Harry continues to watch as soon as the mixture is fully gone dark ink starts to appear in words all along the parchment. Once the words stop appearing Rockfist takes the parchment to read before handing it to Harry with a troubled look on his face and puts one of his clawed fingers on an object and another Goblin comes rushing in and they converse in that same language from earlier and the new Goblin disappears through the door again.

Harry looks at the parchment wondering what in Murlin's name has a Goblin of all beings look so incredibly troubled. What he reads makes him feel sick.
