Work Text:
This my first time posting on this site. I originally wrote this for a creative writing assignment, but I thought it was pretty good. So, I figured I'd post it here to hopefully get some feedback. Any positive or constructive feedback is welcome but please don't just say this is bad or something. It's currently marked complete but let me know if you want me to continue.
"Why don't you trust my judgement!" Her words exploded from her mouth, without any restraint. The teenager's mother opened but she interrupted, "Don't try to pretend you do! It's a small party with a few friends. What do you think is going to happen there HUH?!! DRINKING?! DRUGS?!! Because if you truly believe that you don't know me as well as I thought you did." Her anger suddenly morphed into disappointment as she walked out the front door.
"I'm just trying to protect you!" her mother's desperate whisper fell on deaf ears as she raked her hand through her hair. Her tears now matched her daughters.
The young woman shuffled away from the rustic old farmhouse in which she lives; Her arms were tightly crossed against her chest. The wind whipped her disheveled brunette hair into her face which was damp with tears. As she pulled her hair behind her ears, she gazed at the sky as the sun peaked through the rain clouds. Once she walked far enough that her home was just a dot that sat in the distance, she carefully sank into the damp grass. Then she laid back and looked at the multitude of colors which filled the sky. The soft yellow spread across it as the sun was just about to set and the shades of grey clouds and speckles of blue moved ever so slowly. She felt the clouds were exhausted as well.
She let her eyes flutter closed, and it was as if it were her eyes' natural state. She knew this was exactly where she was supposed to be at this specific moment. She breathed deeply as she interlaced her fingers behind her head and soaked in every wondrous sensation: the soft wind brushing against her face, its gentle hum and the cool mud seeping into her clothes.
She wished for a moment that this little glimpse of heaven could last forever, yet she knew that her family, and her impossible dreams were all waiting for her in the speck in the distance.
She accepted she'd have to go back eventually but she let that thought go with a deep, weary sigh and let the peace of the empty grass field envelop her.
After some time, she opened her eyes, and she let her thoughts wander back to the problems that caused the tears she never wiped away. She found that her mind was clear.
She was now ready to face the perfect chaos. Maybe a compromise could be found.
