“YASSS!” Yoshi cheered when reaching the goal ring of level 6-6 in Yoshi’s Island. At last, he arrived at the penultimate level 6-7, Keep Moving.
“Lol, this level is six seven," Yoshi chuckled. He was too busy chuckling at the juxtaposition of 6 and 7 to notice the Shark Chomp barreling down at him and as a result the first Shark Chomp successfully ate him.
“Dang, that would have been easy on paper if not for my inability to not be amused by this level being 6-7. Just run across the red numbered platforms and don’t look back. Wish I could do that.”
Yoshi tried again. “A ha ha, Six seven six seven,” he chanted like a brain-rotted iPad kid who thinks there’s any valid reason for that number to be a meme. BAM, he got rear-ended by the Shark Chomp once again.
“UGGGGHHH! I wish this level wasn’t 6-7. I wish I could warp straight to 6-8 but no, I have to put up with this level that has an inherently funny number in its title.”
As a result of laughing too hard to actually complete any platforming, Yoshi lost all 67 of his lives on this one level.
“Oh lovely, I’m all the way back at the beginning of the level. Which is a non-issue because I can never get past the first Shark Chomp so therefore I haven’t gotten to any checkpoint rings.”
He was back to 5 lives.
“At least I don’t have 67 lives anymore. Hmm, there HAS to be a way to get to the final level without going through 6-7, cuz it is impossible as it is even tho it looks easy on paper.”
Unfortunately he could not think of any way to skip 6-7. His brain felt sore from all the gymnastics he made it do.
“I guess I might as well give it another go,” Yoshi said reluctantly, despite not having any plan.
When he got to the first Shark Chomp, something unexpected happened. The Shark Chomp burped loudly and didn’t give chase.
“I am so full of dead Yoshis I cannot think about eating anymore!” This gave Yoshi a hope spot. He still had the inability to lock in but at least he didn’t have to worry about the Shark Chomp at his tail. Now that that wasn’t an issue he was able to progress while chuckling in amusement at the level being 6-7.
A few platforming segments later was another Shark Chomp, and this one wasn’t any more possible to pass by virtue of being in 6-7.
“Oh come on!”
Yoshi farmed lives until he got to 67 and then got back to the second Chomp where he fed it all his lives, and it too became too full of failed attempts to be able to give chase. Rinse and repeat for the 3rd and final Shark Chomp. Since there were no more Shark Chomps, Yoshi could feel free to giggle at the number 67 all he wanted.
6-8, King Bowser’s Castle, was much easier due to not being an inherently funny number. Yoshi was instantly thankful there was no 6-9. Ooops, spoke too soon.
After the credits, Yoshi entered level 6-9, which despite consisting of a single screen with the goal and no enemies, was impossible because Yoshi was just too amused by the name to make ANY progress. It was even funnier than 6-7. Yoshi laughed so hard his stomach exploded.
