The pub lights are blinding, deep bass thrumming through the dance floor. Dorcas is, arguably, having the best time of her life. The pleasant buzz of alcohol clouds her mind slightly, and her lips spread in an easy grin.
Dainty, firm arms wrap around her middle, and a chin perches on her shoulder. She feels a warm gush of air near her ear and smiles fondly.
"Hello, mpenzi," Cas coos. "Having a good time?"
Marlene lets out a low hum. "With you? Always, mo ghràdh," she chirps back.
Cas giggles, slowly spinning around to plant a peck on the other girl's nose. Marls goes a bit cross-eyed, a blush staining her tanned cheeks the prettiest pink, and Cas's heart about bursts at the sight.
The music dies down, and the girls make their way towards their cozy little booth in a more discreet corner of the pub. The light is low and the atmosphere quiet, more subdued. Regulus sits there with James—or rather, on top of him, in his lap to be precise. He looks to be rather drunk and, consequently, much more giggly and blushy. James whispering sweet little nothings into his ear couldn't be helping matters much, Cas thinks in amusement. They really are quite sweet, and she's oh so very happy for them, as is Marlene, she's sure.
Marlene slams her hands down on the table—not very forcefully, but making enough noise that the boys spring apart, both as red as tomatoes. Regulus scowls at the blonde but softens almost embarrassingly quickly when James kisses his cheek in consolation.
Cas slides into the seat beside Reg, looping their arms together, and he hums contentedly, leaning his head on her shoulder. Marls starts chatting with James, both of them snickering and pushing playfully at each other. They're a bit like children, she muses, combing her fingers through Reg's soft black curls. He makes a funny noise, almost like a cat's purr, leaning into the touch. Wow, alcohol really does loosen him up.
It takes about three more rounds of drinks and two dance battles between Marls plus James and Reg plus Cas (the latter two had totally flounced their competition, mostly because said competition stopped halfway to admire their partners) before they decide they're ready to go home. Whatever minimal hesitation Regulus had had earlier was now eliminated completely, and he was singing loudly, hanging by James' neck like a koala. James didn't seem to mind, looking both smug and immensely lovesick.
James pulls out his car key, turning to the girls. "C'mon then, we'll drop you off," he says.
Cas and Marls share a look, then shake their heads in unison.
"No, Jim-Jam, you go ahead," Marlene states. "We'll be fine on our own. Besides, your boyfriend looks rather eager to spend some time alone with you."
Regulus sings a loud yes in agreement, and Cas giggles. James, however, is worried.
"No, no, it's the middle of the night. The two of you can't be going alone—"
James argues, but Marlene cuts him off with a stern look and a raised hand.
"No, no, I won't hear it. Listen, Jimsy, we're grown adults. We can handle ourselves. Can't we, 여보?" the blonde murmurs sweetly. Cas nods, grasping her hand.
"We'll be fine, Jamie. You go ahead. Have some fun, 'kay?" she coaxes.
James relents, still looking highly hesitant. He slowly starts nudging Reg towards the car at Marls' raised eyebrow, sighing dramatically.
However, Cas startles when Reg suddenly doubles back, gripping her face almost painfully with his hands.
"Careful," he says ominously, his silver-green eyes sharper and more intense than they have been the whole night.
Dorcas swallows slightly, patting his hands with a nod and a shaky smile.
A switch is flipped, and Reg's face goes back to its loose, lazy drunk grin. He skips back to James, jumping into the tall man's waiting arms. He sends a wink at Marls, kicking at James' shin to make him move.
They drive off with waves and loud 'I LOVE YOU's (the latter mostly Reg), leaving Cas and Marls alone.
"Something wrong, babe?" Marls asks.
Cas snaps out of a trance, blinking. She shakes her head, but she can tell Marlene isn't buying it. She sighs.
"I don't know... maybe we should have gone with the boys. How will we go home alone?" she admits, not looking up.
Marls tilts her head up with a finger on her chin, grinning. She taps Cas's nose, then pulls out a large, oversized windbreaker from nowhere.
Cas lets out a surprised gasp and moves to ask about it, but Marls cuts her off, signalling for her to wait. Cas snaps her mouth shut as Marls reaches into her purse and pulls out a small plastic case. She opens it, turning around to do... something.
When she turns back, Cas is thoroughly shocked.
Marls now sports a small, dark moustache. The windbreaker is zipped to her neck, hoodie up, making her look much larger and more intimidating.
Cas suddenly understands and bursts out laughing as Marls extends her hands towards her, grinning like a goon.
Cas kisses her just for the sake of her utter awe, and the girl lights up like a firefly, her smile growing.
They walk off hand in hand, and all of Cas's previous apprehension fizzles up and dies. Her mood soars impossibly more when she sees a few men glance at them and then immediately look away as they walk past. Marlene has adopted a slow, dangerous-looking gait, and some of the strangers back away subtly.
Cas feels elated, exhilarated, joyous; the English vocabulary isn't enough to describe her happiness.
They reach home fairly quickly, upon which Dorcas tackles Marlene the second she closes the door, snogging her face off. Marlene giggles into her mouth, stretching towards her like a sunflower to the sun.
They break apart, breathing heavily, and Cas knows she would do anything if it meant this—if it meant having Marlene as hers.
"You're amazing," she gushes. Marlene preens, leaning forward.
They kiss again, and Dorcas knows she will marry this woman one day.
