Work Text:
Sun beat down on the already scorching sidewalk of the Oasis (as per usual, even though it was only May. How were the residents of this place not constantly dying from the heat). Suzie was visiting while Vol was off doing key hunt stuff and having an existential crisis about thread or whatever you do when you're a really strong trainer. Most seemed to be some kind of unwell.
Inari carefully walked beside her, the shinobi careful to keep her posture perfect, hands crossed over their chest, fox mask gently painted in cherry blossom, kimono (which Suzie had learned was called a chu-furisode) partially covered in a floral pattern, bow tied complexly enough to make someone's head hurt, geta hitting the ground with a light tap.
Oh, and the actual occasion! With Suzie visiting and Inari seeming to spawn in random places, Suzie had decided to take her out.
"We're here!" Suzie opened the door, scents of cheese and meat and pizza wafting through the air. Because this was a pizza place. A pizza place called Muncheez Pizzeria. A heatza clambered up to greet the pair, wagging its tail and barking happily.
A few people hung around, eating and chatting, so Suzie went up to order.
"Whatcha want?" She asked Inari.
"Hm. Could we share a cheese pizza?" Inari suggested after a few moments.
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll pay!" Suzie strutted up to the counter, the auron that was probably half-asleep blinking its eyes open, straightening its posture and making a small chirp-crackling noise like a campfire, catching the owner's attention as he walked up.
"Hi, would you like to order?" He inquired, patting his doodle.
"One large cheese pizza, please." Suzie requested.
"Of course, coming right up." He took the cash from her hand, handing her 2 drink cups. Honestly Suzie was decently sure Inari would explode if given soda, like a Victorian child with sprite, but gave her one of the cups anyway. They looked at it like it was a mystery, foreign object, like a UFO, while Suzie walked up to the soda fountain and got herself a mix of iced tea and lemonade.
Eventually they sat down with a pizza, and more confused staring from Inari. Suzie tore herself a slice, taking a bite. Inari tried to copy her movements, but seemed to be unhappy with the feeling of cheese on her hands and so just held the crust, tipping their mask up just barely enough to eat it.
"Odoroku hodo yoi (驚くほど良い)." Inari commented, taking another bite of her slice.
"I'm glad you like it." Suzie smiled, knowing from the very limited Japanese that she'd picked up from Inari that they were enjoying it.
Some time later, Inari sat up. They'd moved to a bench outside to enjoy the view of the Oasis's lake, the sunset it in shades of orange and pink.
Inari carefully held Suzie's hand, as if she was scared to lose something so precious. Suzie was grinning, enjoying the moment of serenity.
"You have to go?" She guessed, a small bit of disappointment creeping into her voice.
"Arigatai koto ni, madadesu. Demo, onegai ga arimasu. (ありがたいことに、まだです。でも、お願いがあります)." Inari explained, shifting their mask off of her face entirely. Their silver eyes reflected the sunset as she set a hand on Suzie's cheek, pulling her closer.
Suzie's face flushed rosy pink, but she returned the gesture of affection, sharing a brief kiss.
"I—uh." Suzie's brain had decided to stop working, earning a chuckle from Inari.
"Aishitemasu (愛してます)." Inari answered.
"Je t'aime." Suzie murmured back after a moment.
