Runnin’ Home

Summary:

Sequel to Sweet Nothings!

Wednesday and Enid have taken the next step in their relationship, but what does that mean for them?

Chapter Text

It took Enid a good moment to notice the eyes following her, countless people crowding around to watch them. She was so occupied with Wednesday, she barely noticed, and once she had noticed she couldn’t bring herself to care all that much.

She knew that the Addamses and Frumps were nosey, but she also knew that most of them would be so happy.

She hadn’t realized that before, she hadn’t realized just how loving and kind and accepting they were, but she knew now. She knew that they would accept her no matter what, and that Wednesday would always be by her side.

Her heart and soul hummed at that. Happiness warming her despite the cold night and cold hands on the small of her back. This was the happiest that Enid had ever been.

There was so much to deal with. So much drama and pain awaiting her. Her relationship with her mother and the pack and her unknown werewolf abilities. She hadn’t answered her phone in days, she hadn’t spoken to her mother or even the family members that still supported her. She wanted to just live in this world of love and affection and death traps that the Addamses had so easily welcomed her into.

She would figure things out eventually, but for now she would enjoy her time and protect her peace.

For someone so allergic to color, Wednesday certainly enjoyed tangling her fingers into Enid’s colorful hair. They were still swaying to the random music blaring from Enid’s phone, basking in each other's presence and prolonging the beautiful moment.

Wednesday leans forward to catch Enid’s lips again, and Enid holds her so close. Kissing Wednesday Addams is akin to fireworks, in the cliche romance novel way.

Enid had been dying her entire life, dying to be loved in that fairytale romance sort of way. To be loved and held and to feel protected, and Wednesday Addams did it all in the press of her soft lips.

Enid didn’t think she would ever stop marveling at the way Wednesday held her, firm but not possessive, it was worshipful, like Wednesday just couldn’t get enough of her.

Enid is the one to break the kiss, her lungs burning at the lack of air, and Wednesday chases her. Leaving a trail of kisses on her cheeks and forehead and nose, leaving Enid a mess of giggles and plum lipstick.

“They’re watching” Enid warns, fearing that if Wednesday knew they had an audience she wouldn’t give affection so freely, Wednesday surprised her though.

“They knew what they would find” she says, her voice deep with adoration as she pecks Enid’s lips again. “They of all people should know better than to interrupt an Addams in love”

“In love” Enid said, twirling dramatically in their dance, letting Wednesday pull her right back in. “We’re in love”

“Yes” Wednesday says simply, but god, Enid has never seen such devotion written on somebody's face before, she has never seen Wednesday look like that before. A wide and beautiful smile on her face, her dimples making themselves known and her eyes sparkling. She had never looked so carefree, so happy. It wasn’t her creepy smile either, the smile she reserved for roadkill or torture devices, it was pure joy. Enid couldn’t believe that she had been one to do that, to make Wednesday so incredibly happy. She can’t help it, she surges forward to kiss her again. She can’t get enough of the woman.

Enid holds Wednesday by her hips, dragging her in even further. Marveling at the way Wednesday feels under her hands, marveling at the feel of her lips and thanking every god that she has ever heard of. Thanking everything in the universe that brought her to this moment.

Unfortunately that is when the moment broke. A loud and sharp sound, and then a child tumbling through the glass door.

Pubert stood up onto his feet, covered in scratches, and he shouted “Again!”

Enid couldn’t help but to giggle, “Are you okay?”

“Serves him right, for eavesdropping” Wednesday said, earning a swat from her girlfriend, girlfriend? Was that what they were now?

“That was fun!” Pubert said excitedly. Gomez could be heard inside chuckling fondly, before the now broken door came swinging open.

The first thing he did was pull the girls into his embrace.

He was warm, and smelled strongly of expensive cologne, and he kissed the top of Enid’s head.

“Welcome to the family, hija” he said proudly. Morticia came next, wrapping her family into a hug. After a moment Wednesday wormed her way out of it, but her parents still held onto Enid.

Devil knows that she could use some healthy parental relationships.

Enid is giggling, and Wednesday can feel it in her heart.

She is so glad to have been able to give Enid people who will love her for who she is, even if it means her family being insufferable.

Pugsley claps Wednesday on the shoulder, and she allows it.

“Okay! So when’s the next wedding?” Ophelia’s voice can be heard from the shattered doorway. Enid pulls away from the Addams parents, and she is grinning and blushing all at once.

Wednesday feels the inevitable pull to reattach herself to her beloved, holding her hand out, Enid immediately grabs it to hold.

Enid is laughing, at what she presumes to be an embarrassing joke, but then Wednesday says “Soon”.

Enid is looking at her with bright and wide eyes “Soon? What do you mean soon? We’re sixteen, we’re not even legally allowed to get married”

“An Addams never bothers with things such as legality” Gomez booms, other Addams laugh and people around are cheering and congratulating Enid and Wednesday. It’s a lot. Her heart was so full.

“I should have assumed” Enid smiled.

Calpurnia crashed into her arms, hugging Enid tightly.

“Welcome to the family” she says, and then it becomes a chorus throughout the manor, Addams after Addams, Frumps, and even Lillian’s family members.

Enid is blushing so hard, she can’t believe that this is her life now, that she gets all of this. She looks at Wednesday and Wednesday is already looking back, her face is more stoic now, but Enid can see the light in her eyes. Wednesday is beaming on the inside.

Everyone eventually travels back inside, for more dancing and more food, it is still Ophelia and Lillian’s night.

Enid dances with so many cousins and aunts and people who she doesn’t even know the relation to.

And then there’s Wednesday, always circling back to Enid. Never leaving her side for long. They sway together, they dance. Wednesday dances like she belongs in a goth club, she dances like a girl who has been classically trained since birth. She is a walking contradiction, she is vibrance and beauty. She is enthralling.

She dances like she did at the Rave’n many months ago, Enid finally gets that dance she had wanted so badly back then.

Wednesday kisses her during a slow song, she bends Enid at the hip, she holds her, and she kisses her in front of her entire family. Wednesday doesn’t care who sees them. She gives Enid affection so freely, Enid couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised.

The Addamses dance the night away, they are still celebrating once the sun comes up. Golden sunlight fills the ballroom, and Enid feels more content than she has felt in her entire life.

The wives leave around five in the morning to go on their honeymoon, Enid giggles when Wednesday informs her that their intended vacation destination is the bermuda triangle. It apparently has a lovely beach. Whatever that means for a Frump.

They change into pajamas; Enid a tank top with cartoon characters on it and sleep shorts, Wednesday an expensive silk set. They brush their teeth side by side.

When Wednesday and Enid crash into bed they are exhausted, Enid’s legs ache like they never have, but Wednesday holds her. Enid’s still giggling, and Wednesday watches her with such love and devotion in her eyes, a soft smile on her lips that is reserved for only Enid.

“I love you” Wednesday says, like she has to say it, like she has to make it known again.

“I love you too, Wednesday. I love you so much”

They fall asleep with their bodies intertwined, warm and happy.

The morning is much of the same, although the word ‘morning’ is a stretch, considering that Enid isn’t awake until two in the afternoon. Wednesday is already awake, blunt nails scratching the back of Enid’s neck like a puppy.

Two days in a row waking up in Wednesday’s arms. She knew that she would never grow tired of it.

She hums into the side of Wednesday’s throat and tightens her arms around the other girls hips. Wednesday holds her right back, she kisses Enid’s forehead and rubs her back.

“Good morning, amada mia” Wednesday says, her voice so incredibly soft that Enid swoons.

“Atrocious morning, Wedns” she says, muffled by Wednesday’s own neck, as Enid cannot bring herself to move just yet.

Wednesday seems to be perfectly fine with that, as she draws shapes onto Enid’s back, gentle circles left by ghostlike fingertips. Enid kisses her collarbone, and Wednesday stills.

“Sorry, was that not okay?” Enid asks, mournfully pulling away from the heat of Wednesday’s body.

“The clavicle is the easiest bone to break in the human body” Wednesday replies, her eyes finding Enid’s. “I should detest having another person so close, I shouldn’t be so vulnerable, but it is so easy when it’s you. I find myself enjoying the way you make me feel, I find myself prepared to face everything that might come next. You make me better, Enid, a better person, a stronger person”

“My love” Enid says gently, leaning down to press her lips to Wednesdays. Wednesday holds her face so tenderly.

“You are a beautiful beast. I should find myself honored should you ever decide to rip out my throat” she says in a way that is somehow flowery and romantic, Enid giggles, and Wednesday traces the scars on Enid’s face with her fingertips. “I love you so much that it is overwhelming, but I cannot get enough”

“I love you too, Wednesday. You make me feel so complete, like you have always meant to be beside me. You make me feel so loved, wanted, like I have never felt before. I watch you smile like a supervillain at crime scene photos, and I watch you hang from the ceiling like a bat when you need to think extra hard about something. I see how passionate you are about every single thing that you do. I see how much you love, even when you show it in your own unique way. And I love you more and more every single second. I want to keep learning you, to keep seeing you and adoring you, because you mean everything to me”

And this time Wednesday is the one to surge up and kiss Enid. Enid pours every bit of love into the kiss. All of her passion, and of her adoration, all of her hopes, and fears, and dreams. All of her obsession, all of her wants. Wednesday responds just as dramatically, Wednesday Addams kisses just as she does everything else, passionate and determined, she is all in.

Enid is panting again by the time they break apart, she’s struggling to catch her breath.

“Dude, how the hell are your lungs not screaming at you?” Enid asks with a bright smile in her voice.

“Swimming practice” Wednesday says simply.

“What does that mean?” Enid laughed.

“I can hold my breath underwater for thirteen minutes and fifty-two seconds”

“What the hell?”

“My brothers and I have been training our entire lives”

“Why?” she asks, more amused than anything, dying to know everything she can about this completely strange girl.

“Survival” Wednesday says, a smirk playing on her face. “Are you aware of our spectator?”

Enid looks up and around Wednesday's room, only to spot a little blackbird sitting on the outer windowsill. She groans as she untangles her limbs from Wednesdays. Wednesday locks her legs around Enid’s own, causing the girl to laugh.

“Lemme go” she weakly complains.

“Never” Wednesday says.

“You’d neglect our son?” Enid asks.

“Our?” Wednesday counters, her eyebrow raised.

“You think me a cheat? That I’d have a child outside of our marriage?” Enid jokes.

“No child so annoying could be mine” Wednesday argues, Enid is still being held captive, on her knees on top of Wednesday, who is a lot stronger than she looks.

“Rude! I’d argue that it’s a trait that he specifically got from you” she leans down to kiss Wednesday’s nose, and uses the distraction to pull away quickly and run over to the window to let Waverly in.

“Impressive subterfuge”

“Thanks love!” Enid grinned “The floor is so cold”

“I prefer temperatures akin to that of a morgue”

“Brrrr” Enid vocalizes while she notices that Wednesday is listening to something that Waverly is saying, despite not being able to hear him for herself yet.

“The dastardly bird was sent to inform us that Lurch has prepared a late breakfast” she says, sitting straight up in the bed like a zombie might rise from the dead. How the action could be so endearing, Enid didn’t know.

Enid throws on some fluffy pink socks, and the three head down for breakfast together. The dining room is hectic and full, Addamses and Frumps wandering around and filling their plates full of odd looking breakfast foods.

“There are my girls” Morticia says as she comes up and wraps her arms around their backs, barely touching Wednesday, and holding Enid. “Lovely to see you both, Enid, I asked Lurch to prepare some food items that you might prefer, and I had him stash it away in the kitchen as to not get mixed in with everything else, although you are more than welcome to have anything you would like”

“Thank you so much” Enid said, a little blush on her face, remembering the night prior when the entire family had seen her and Wednesday in a romantic moment.

“No problem at all, dear. We all want you to feel at home here” she says, patting Enid’s back. “And Darling, we received a call from your brother Evan earlier this morning. I will not pretend to know the intricacies of your family dynamics, but he seemed very worried about you”

“Oh” Enid said, “I didn’t mean to worry them”

“I assured him that you were fine, but I am sure he would appreciate it if you were to reach out, after breakfast of course” Morticia told her.

“I will, I’ll get ahold of him”

“Good, enjoy your meal, girls. I’ll be in the study with aunt Melancholia if either of you need anything”

Calpurnia and Payne were standing by the buffet at the dining table, fighting with their little sibling whose name Enid hadn’t learned. Cousins Clot and Cackle were debating something to do with alligator bones? She really wasn’t sure.

“Do you wish to have a quiet breakfast, just the two of us?” Wednesday asked, moving to stand closer to Enid after her mother had left from between them.

“What are you thinking?” Enid asked.

“There are bar stools in the kitchen, I’ll make coffee and we will have a nice day together”

“Your whole family is here, Wednesday, you don’t wanna spend time with them before everyone heads home?”

“I would rather spend time with you”

“Are you sure?”

“I am always sure”

“Okay” Enid grins.

Enid makes herself comfortable in one of the aforementioned bar stools, while Wednesday goes about making their coffee.

A quad over ice for herself, with a touch of cyanide for flavor.

And a monstrosity over ice for Enid. More cookie dough flavored creamer and milk than actual coffee.

She kisses Enid’s forehead as she sits the coffee in front of her, like they had done this hundreds of times, it all came so easily. Once Wednesday sat down Enid reached out to hold her hand.

Enid has her plate piled high with fruit and pancakes, Wednesday has her own full of cricket muffins and roadkill bacon. Enid takes Wednesday’s blueberries, and they sip their coffees together.

It’s a nice little bubble. She’s grateful that Wednesday had suggested this, the quiet is nice after everything that had happened recently.

Just the two of them, side by side.

Enid chats about mundane things, social media trends and the dating lives of their friends. Wednesday listens intently, just as she had always done.

Wednesday was feeling overwhelmed.

She was so happy. Everything that she thought she would never feel, could never feel, she felt for Enid. Everything she has always said that she would never want, she found herself wanting with Enid, and she didn’t mind it.

Being with Enid like this all morning was horrible, Wednesday couldn’t get enough of her. But all of the emotions and feelings were starting to make her uneasy. Her family was loud and excitable, and Wednesday found herself needing space.

But she didn’t want to bother Enid.

Despite being an unwilling witness to her own parents love for her entire sixteen years on this earth, Wednesday wasn’t sure how to actually be in a relationship. It was all so new to her, caring about another person as much as she cared about Enid, it was terrifying.

For the first time in Wednesday's life she found herself caring about what another person felt, she didn’t know how to tell Enid that she was overwhelmed without upsetting her.

Enid though, was who Wednesday loved for a reason.

Enid had learned, a long time ago, Wednesday’s tells. Enid had learned how to read her, and Wednesday had learned how to read Enid. They were more than just new romantic partners, they had been best friends first.

Wednesday’s first and only bff. That is what Enid called it at least.

So of course Enid caught on.

“Hey” Enid said as she started clearing up for breakfast, “Do you wanna go back upstairs and get some writing time in?”

And devil below, did Wednesday love this woman.

“I do not wish to abandon you” Wednesday said.

“I’ll finish up here, and then I'll follow you up, lay in bed and play on my phone just like we used to do at Nevermore. I need to text my sibs anyway, probably the girls too”

“That is acceptable” Wednesday said, and then “Thank you, Enid”

“Anytime, lover” she said with a cheeky smirk. Wednesday would never admit that it brought the hint of a blush to her face.

So she kissed the back of Enid’s hand, because two could play at that game, and turned to head upstairs.

Wednesday had neglected her writing time lately, skipping it the past two nights, that may be one of the reasons for her being so tense. Writing always helped to calm her, writing was her outlet, it helped her to regulate and sit with her thoughts.

It had only been two nights, but in this old and haunted house two days meant that her typewriter had begun to collect dust. The ruby red heart sticker had started peeling at one side, Wednesday pushed it back flush, and then lowered herself into her chair. She stared at the typewriter for a moment, trying to recall where she and Viper had last left off.

Wednesday realized that the last time she had written, Viper and her partner in (solving) crime, Evelyn, were about to have a reunion.

She heard the familiar footfalls, and the door creaked open. Enid smiled over at her, and she purposefully brushed against Wednesday’s back as she walked past, before plopping herself into Wednesday’s bed.

Wednesday began to type.

Enid made herself comfortable in Wednesday’s bed, laying on her side and under the covers.

Viper and Evelyn see each other for the first time in months, and the first thing Viper does is wrap Evelyn into an embrace.
