Chapter Text
"Thor, we need to speak." Nick Fury, one of S.H.I.E.L.D's directors called, from the intercom in the Avengers ship.
Thor, the god of Thunder, looked at the intercom and then glanced back at the other Avengers.
"Go on, buddy, mummy and daddy won't make any plans without you." Tony, the ever so sarcastic guy, smirked at him as he pats Thors back, pushing him slightly forward towards the door.
Thor, not understanding one word that just came out of Tony 'genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist' Stark just shrugged and headed towards the meeting table where Nick Fury was waiting.
"Speak thy purpose, director." Thor answered him calmly, yet confidently.
"I would like you to see the new prisoner we have acquired. The other Avengers are free to come as well." Nick Fury replied, glancing at the door where the other Avengers were standing, watching the interaction.
"I guess it means no harm to take a look?" Steve hummed and nodded towards the other Avengers who mumbled compliances.
"We have taken your brother into custody and confined him in a cell. I would like you to get some information out from him, as he is your brother." Fury explains as they walk towards the call he is confined in.
"I thought he was a god. How the hell did he get captured? Amature." Tony scoffs, chuckling a bit.
Thor glares at him, Steve does as well, but that's probably more because they have some sort of rivalry(?) going on.
"I will try my best director, but my brother has always been good at hiding the truth from others. It won't be easy. What information is it you may need?" Thor questions.
Fury paused momentarily before speaking up again. "Anything you can get out of him would help, we have no idea what we're dealing with, and he seems to be the only one that somehow likes all this chaos." Fury explained as they finally reached the cell Loki was detained in.
The Avengers — Natasha most of all — glared at Loki, who seemed entirely unbothered by their attention. Guards armed with massive laser rifles stood at the ready, in case he attempted escape.
Bruce fidgeted with his hands, getting slightly more nervous under Loki's gaze.
Steve stood his ground but a bit intimidated since Loki was the one who had caused critical damage to the city of New York. Tony rolled his eyes at Loki's tough act, and Thor - well, he was smiling nervously to the mass-murderer or his brother.
"Hello, brother." Thor walked up to the cell.
"Good day, Odinsson." Loki answered calmly, yet calculated and intimidating.
"Do you want us to leave." Fury asked Thor, knowing they could still watch from the camera.
"Let them stay. Dramatics are always welcome in my eyes and ears." Loki said, cutting off Thor as he was about to speak.
Tony rolled his eyes about to interrupt that son-of-a-bitch,
(A/N: his words, not mine)
But Steve seemed to have different plans and smacked his hand on Tony's mouth, silently daring him to say one word.
Tony scoffed and shoved Steve's hand off.
"Get off, Elsa." Tony muttered to Steve.
Rodgers rolled his eyes but looked back towards Thor and Loki, who seemed to be having a staring contest - Loki won, a moment after.
“Now do tell me why you have brought a bunch of mortals and, The Oaf of Asgard, paraded them before me? And it seems the mewling quim is here as well.” Loki glances maliciously at Natasha, and it seems she is ready to reply with a snarky comeback.
"Calm down, brother. We are here to talk." Thor tries, though it seems to have hit a nerve in Loki.
"Do you not listen?! I am not your brother! Get that inside the thick skull of yours!" Loki snapped, rage overtaking his calmness. The armed forcess standing by the cell quickly aiming towards Loki, ready for a break-out, which didnt come. He quickly calmed down as the Avengers seem to be lacking a voice, and Thor having taken a step back from the cell.
Tony, who seemed to be the first one to be able to get a sentence out, spoke up. "Damn bro, what got you so mad." His voice had the usual sarcastic tone but this one lacked a bit of confidence and instead, held a bit of confusion.
Steve took a step forward and put up his hands in surrender. "Calm down, we're just here to talk, cooperate and it will go faster." Rodgers tried.
Loki said nothing, eyes narrowing as he seized up everyone, but when his eyes hit Clint, his lips twitched into a small smile. "How are you doing, Barton? Still thinking about the blood on your hands?" He said mockingly.
That's when Natasha stepped in. "Enough Loki, no more games." She said intimidatingly, and it seemed to do the trick, because Loki stepped back, and backed off of Clint.
Clint however was scowling, and seemed pissed off. "Let's just get this over with." The other Avengers nodded and looked at Loki once again.
"Speak up! What is it you want." Loki said, he seemed rather annoyed.
"Calm down, we're just here to talk." Stark growled, but also with some anticipation in his voice.
Bruce fidgeted with his hands as he walked over to Steve. "Steve, I think we should get this over with, we don't know if he is intending violence or not, but I have a bad feeling." Bruce muttered. Steve put a hand on his shoulder, comforting him slightly, "we will make this quick, don't worry. We are the Avengers, after all." Steve mumbled back.
"Let's make this quick, alright?" Steve told Loki and the other Avengers, voice loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
Thor, still standing a step back from the cell, tried to steady himself. “Speak, Loki. What is it you want?”
Loki let out a soft, musical sigh, leaning one shoulder against the bars. “What do I want? Oh, such a tedious question. Perhaps you mortals should tell me what you expect of me first.”
Tony groaned. “Figures. Couldn’t just answer normally, could you?”
Steve raised a hand, cutting in. “We’re not here to argue. Just answer the questions, Loki. It’ll go faster.”
Loki’s green eyes flicked from Thor to Natasha, then back to Steve. “Ah… the mighty Captain. Ever the peacemaker. How quaint. Very well, I shall attempt to humor you.” He paused, tilting his head. “But first… why do you even bother, Thunderer? You think you can sway me with your appeals to family?”
Thor’s hands clenched slightly, keeping his voice calm. “I do not wish to sway you, Loki. I only seek understanding. Why cause such destruction among mortals?”
“Understanding?” Loki echoed, voice dripping sarcasm. “You truly think I need a reason to amuse myself, oaf of Asgard? How charmingly naïve.”
Natasha stepped closer, gaze sharp. “Enough riddles, Loki. If you want to keep this conversation from getting ugly, you’ll answer plainly. Who is helping you? And what do you know about the Tesseract?”
Loki’s lips twitched into a faint smile. “Ah… the ever-practical Black Widow. Always straight to the point. Very well. But I see you already have the shiny cube locked away, do you not? Your little mortal treasures… I am underwhelmed.”
Tony raised an eyebrow. “So he’s basically insulting SHIELD and us at the same time. Got it.”
Bruce shifted uncomfortably. “Maybe we should start with one thing at a time… focus on him giving us info we can actually use, rather than getting insulted.”
“Start with what I know?” Loki echoed, mock-thoughtful. “How dull. Very well… I know your precious Tesseract is secure, though I could imagine many ways to make your little mortals squirm if it were not.” His green eyes glimmered with menace.
Steve frowned. “Loki, this isn’t a game. We need details: who is working with you, what are your plans, and yes, even about the Tesseract. You cannot avoid this forever.”
Loki leaned forward slightly, amusement dancing in his eyes. “Ah, specifics. Patience, Captain, patience. Perhaps I shall give you just a taste… or perhaps I shall let your little friend Barton here answer instead.”
Clint scowled, gripping his bow. “Don’t even think about it, Loki.”
Natasha’s voice cut sharply through the tension. “Enough games, Loki. Now. Answers. Or I will make sure this conversation doesn’t end the way you think it will.”
Loki’s smirk faltered just slightly, a tiny crack in the mask, before he straightened and leaned back, cool as ever. “Very well, Romanoff. Let us see how… interesting this becomes.”
Steve steps forward his mouth already moving, "Who were you working with, Loki. It wasn't just you, we know that." Loki just smiled faintly, somthing akin to amusement dancing in his eyes. "Do you? How comforting. I do enjoy a confident enemy," Lokis head tilts, smirk slowly forming into a grin.
Natasha steps in, right then and there, moving up beside Steve Rodgers, "Listen up, Loki. You had an army, advanced tech that wasn't Asgardian. That didn't come out from nowhere," she states, crossing her arms, looking very uninviting.
"What makes you think I didn't get it? I am the prince of Asgard," Loki tilts his head, but knows that Natasha, was very well right.
"Don't play with us, Reindeer Games. Just answer the damn question," Tony Stark, the ever lonely guy, peaks up.
Loki scoffs but nods towards Natasha, signaling that her question he would answer. "No, they did not come out of nowhere." Loki answers and doesn't elaborate, just leaving it there.
Thor, who had been ever so quiet, spoke up, "Brother... who put you up to this? Who gave you the means?" He speaks as if no one was there.
Lokis jaw tightens, a vain ever so slightly bulging at that comment, "Do not presume I require 'putting up to' anything." He speaks up. His tone seemed to lose a fraction of certainty, something that almost no one notices, except the ever so quiet Bruce.
Tony Stark the ever so pushy guys scoffs at Lokis comment, "let me guess? Big, ugly, worse fashion sense than you, because that bar is low already."
Loki rolls his eyes, sneering back with a snarky remark, that seemed to hold more sincerity than sarcasm. "You know better, than to mock something you know nothing of, Stark. That is your first weakness."
Bruce banner, who had been analyzing every little detail, about Lokis body language, especially when they began pushing him to speak, speaks up. "You don't look like someone who has won."
Lokis body stills at that comment, eyes locking on banners. He doesn't say anything, and he certainly doesn't have to, because his body language is practically saying 'Shut up'.
Steve presses one last time, "if someone's pulling the strings, we need to know. Because next time, it won't just be New York." Lokis eyes narrow and he speaks up in a mutter. "You're far to late."
Everybody stops, shivers creeping up on Banners neck, and Clint's hairs standing up, but even though all that, they kept a straight face. Was it because they couldn't be weak I front of a bad guy? Or what? But no matter that, Fury steps in.
Fury quickly defuses and interrupts the conversation.
"I think that's enough. Thank you for your cooperation Loki." Fury nods towards Loki, who is just standing inside his cell, waiting for them to leave.
"We'll come back if we have to." Fury says as he gives a stern glance towards the Avengers, who follow him away.
Loki let's them, even giving a small sarcastic wave, with a smirk, that doesn't have the usual glint of amusement in his eyes..
That night, no one can sleep - well.. almost no one.
Clint is sleeping in the other room, as Steve lays in the guest bed, of Stark tower. However, he wasn't relaxing- he was spilling with nerves, with no actual reason to be scared, well, other than the fact Loki had told them it was 'to late' and he has NO idea, what the hell that's supposed to mean, but he knows it's not good.
