Work Text:
Its a god-awful small affair
It wasn't supposed to mean anything, really.
To the girl with mousy hair
You're a nobody. Especially compared to him.
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
They've never liked you anyways.
And her daddy has told her to go
You should've known they'd react like this.
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Nobody has ever liked you anyways.
Now she walks through her sunken dream
In a haze. Does anything really matter?
To the seat with the clearest view
Can he even see you?
And she's hooked to the silver screen
He'll just leave you, you're sure.
But the film is a saddening bore
Him singing and winking at ladies much prettier than you.
For she's lived it ten times or more
You're used to it by now.
She could spit in the eyes of fools
He thinks you're the most beautiful out of anyone in the crowd.
As they ask her to focus on
Listen to him play.
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
He finds your eyes.
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
You blush and he smiles. His real, dumb smile.
It's the freakiest show
He gets distracted and falls.
Take a look at the lawman
Gene rolls his eyes at him.
Beating up the wrong guy
He'll probably get lectured about how he should know how to keep his balance on his heels by now, he won't tell them he was more focused on you than where he was stepping.
Oh man, wonder if he'll ever know
You love him with all your heart.
He's in the best selling show
He's the only reason you're at this show.
Is there life on Mars?
Does he love you?
Its on America's tortured brow
Peter yells at him for how much he brings you up.
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Every time he talks about you he loves you a little more.
Now the workers have struck for fame
He has thousands of fangirls.
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
He doesn't care. You occupy too much of his mind.
See the mice in their million hordes
They scream and yell when he plays his solo. You stay silent and listen.
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
They all act the same. They love him for Space Ace. Not Ace.
"Rule Britannia" is out of bounds
He wants to tell them all to go away till you're the only one left in the crowd.
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
If anyone saw you with him they'd ask how you got him. He asks how he got you.
But the film is a saddening bore
Him singing and winking at ladies much uglier than you.
Cause I wrote it ten times or more
He's used to it by now. Pretends that he's winking at you.
It's about to be writ again
He kisses a pick and throws it to you.
As I ask you to focus on
His lipstick is pressed onto it.
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
His heart falls as he sees the upset look you wear.
Oh man, look at those cavemen go
He wants to get off the stage and hug you, he almost does.
It's the freakiest show
He'd give Space Ace up if it meant he could have you forever.
Take a look at the lawman
He says your name in the chorus of Shock Me.
Beating up the wrong guy
His fangirls in the crowd look confused.
Oh man, wonder if (s)he'll ever know
He loves you with all his heart.
He's in the best selling show
The show is sold out, but he's happier at the fact that you're there.
Is there life on Mars?
He'll pull you backstage after the curtain drops.
