Work Text:
Half an hour had passed since Katsuki Bakugo, known publicly as pro hero Dynamight, had finished his night patrol. He was driving home from his agency, and it should have been just an ordinary night: he had completed a successful shift catching several criminals, felt proud of himself, and had a lovely model waiting for him back at his place—surely wearing that green nightgown that drove him crazy.
Except it was not.
He hadn't encountered a single crime during his patrol, instead he had spent all of it overthinking and getting mad at himself, and he didn't have shit waiting for him back at home. Sure, there once was a sexy model sleeping next to him every night... but not anymore. Not since he came to terms with his feelings—at least in his own twisted way—and ended things with her.
The reason? His former girlfriend.
The main character on his daily nostalgia sessions. His high school sweetheart. The girl who graduated with him and, apparently, had been his one and true love ever since.
He was sick.
How could he miss such an idiot so much? He had everything a man could ask for: money, an insane power, and any woman he laid eyes on. So what if they dated for some years after UA? It wasn't like she was the only girl in the world... right? Of course she wasn't. Then, why the hell was remorse hitting him now?! Truth be told, he was primarily to blame for their breakup. But she wasn't a saint either. There must have been a very good reason for them to split... Yeah... A very good reason. It was buried somewhere in his mind, just nowhere he could recall at the moment.
"Ugh," he groaned, when an unfortunately familiar song played on the radio. For God's sake, the one night he didn't pair his phone with the car Bluetooth.
It was Hero. Some Disney song a few of his classmates had chosen to sing at their graduation, as he danced slowly with his then-crush. He remembered that moment well. Her red dress slipped to the floor, his hand gripping her waist for the first time in front of the entire class and their teachers, and his other hand holding hers, tenderly, as if it might break. Oh, how she loved that dance. She would always reminisce about it. Something he found himself doing as well, especially after the breakup. How ironic. It was almost as if, since they broke up, he had gradually sunk into a nostalgic spiral that did nothing but fuel the flame of his love, as she drifted farther and farther away, from him, from what they once were, and from everything they could have been.
Damn. She had even gotten herself a handsome new boyfriend—who was, also, nothing like him. They had met not long after he went public with his relationship with the model. A kind, tall, Black pro hero—too damn perfect for his own good—was now guarding his dearest treasure. How could he? She was everything to Bakugo.
But did she know that?... Probably not.
Then, all of a sudden, he made an impulsive turn and floored it. He needed to speed away before he could actually think about what he was doing—and regret it. Adrenaline took control, turning a fifteen-minute ride into five. He arrived at his destination in the blink of an eye.
Once he parked—with a sharp screech that betrayed his haste—he rushed to the door. The property had a long stone driveway lined with well-kept bushes. As for the house, it was unmistakably modern: two stories, entirely clad in white and black, with plenty of windows and a balcony that wrapped around the perimeter. For a brief moment, he couldn’t help but think that the place had very little of her in it.
The doorbell rang in a sweet, short melody. At least the first time he rang it. Then he rang it again. And again. Then knocked on the door like a true psychopath. While he waited, he checked the time on his watch.
“Fuck,” he muttered. One in the morning. She was probably asleep.
She? How could he be sure that it wasn’t they?
All the regrets he had shut down by speeding were coming back fast, one by one. Luckly, the door opened before he could dwell on any of them.
There she was.
His ex-girlfriend was standing there, wide awake, staring at him in disbelief. His eyes swept her up and down, as if she might disappear just as the sight of him: she was wrapped in a pink lace-trimmed silk robe that showed off her legs, ending in her matching fuzzy slippers. The look of someone properly ready for bedtime, but somehow deprived of it. Even so, she looked as gorgeous as always.
“What the hell are you doing here?” she asked. “Are you insane?!”
“Akami,” he interrupted her, his heart hammering against his ribs. “Is he here?”
“What? No, he’s not. What do you want?”
Phew. One less problem. Truth was he didn’t know what he’d do if her new boyfriend were around. He had fought countless villains, even terrible monsters, but none of them compared to this kind of risk—being caught stealing another man’s girl. That must’ve been weird, to say the least.
“I was in the neighborhood on patrol and thought I’d…”
Liar. Why would he commit the same mistakes with her once again? Why would he automatically lie when faced with an emotional question? Did he drive all the way to her house, away from his own, just to hide behind a façade? He’d had enough of his stupid pride taking over. And so did she for sure.
“…fuck it. I was thinking about you. I needed to see you,” he finally admitted. He felt his cheeks reddening.
“See me? Why?”
“Why do you think, idiot?!” Shit.
“Get the fuck out of here.”
When she tried to slam the door on him, he quickly caught it with his forearm.
“Akami, wait! Just wait. Listen to me, I…”
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Why couldn’t he just say it?! It turned out he wasn’t nearly as brave or manly as the rest of Japan thought. In this moment, he was a coward.
“You what, Katsuki?”
Yet she didn’t sound—to him, at least—as offended as she was trying to appear. Angry, sure, but not precisely at him. She sounded… expectant. As if she were dying to hear those magical words just as much as he was dying to say them.
That’s when he knew. When he heard his name coming out of her mouth, he knew it was the only sound he wanted to hear for the rest of his life. Over and over. He even pictured some little kids holding his hands, also saying it.
Could it be clearer?
In a fraction of a second, all the doubts and regrets he had washed away.
“I miss you. I always miss you. I haven’t stopped missing you for a single day.” The words slipped out of his mouth like a long-held breath.
“What are you saying? You have a girlfriend!”
“I don’t. I broke up with her.”
“What?” Akami widened her eyes.
“It’s strange you haven’t heard, since it’s the only thing on the news lately.” But, as he spoke, it dawned on him. “Unless you haven’t learned anything and you still think you can lie to me.”
This time, Akami was the one blushing. “Please! Why would I do that?”
He smiled on the inside—and a bit on the outside, too. It didn’t matter how much time passed; he knew how to read her like an open book.
“Maybe because…” He leaned a little closer, just enough to rub her fingers with his own. “…you miss me too.”
She let out a loud “ha” before nervously crossing her arms to hide her hands. “I see your pride is playing tricks on you, as usual.”
“I’d get rid of my pride for you,” he assured as he took a step closer. “I’d get rid of anything—and anyone—for you.”
“Nothing I haven’t heard before.” She looked away; arms still crossed. As nice as those words sounded, she couldn’t trust them. Not just like that. They did break up in the past for a reason… right?
“True. But it’s different this time. I’m different.”
“That’s great. But, in case you forgot, I’m in a happy relationship,” she spat out, the words like knives thrown directly at his chest.
“Is that so?” he questioned; his gaze intense. “In that case, why are you still standing here, waiting for me to persuade you, instead of just throwing me out?”
The allegation took her by surprise in such a way, she turned at him and remained quiet. She could feel her cheeks getting warmer and warmer. Also, as if that wasn’t enough, her heartbeat was racing. Was he right?
“You are absolutely right,” she said. “Leave.”
Ignoring her request, he killed the distance between them and grabbed her passionately by her arms.
“You’re the one, Akami,” he mumbled, still reluctant to voice his feelings. “You belong with me and no one else. I need you.”
The girl’s walls were falling down one by one. Not because of his words, but because she knew he was being mad serious. In that state, she didn’t even mind him holding her, and practically sighing his heart out on her face.
“Katsuki, I have a boyfriend…” Despite looking away, it did not decrease his effect on her.
“I’m better than him.” He didn’t actually know the guy—not at all—, but it didn’t matter. He knew he was better. “I want you. I don’t care about anyone else but you, and I know you feel the same.”
“Katsuki, I…”
But he couldn’t wait any longer. He pulled her tighter and kissed her. It was intoxicating. That single moment, when their lips crashed into each other, suddenly buried all the other kisses he’d ever given. They were not her.
Akami opened her eyes and pressed her hands against his chest as if to push him away... but she didn’t. Instead, she closed her eyes again, completely giving in. His lips were soft and warm, but they were possessing hers like a pirate claiming his treasure. And she couldn’t be more pleased. She ran her hands around his chest, feeling his strong muscles tense in order to hold her.
That was it? Was it that easy for her to throw away her pride and morals, to cheat on the person who loved her? Before that night, she’d never even thought about infidelity. To hurt someone—anyone—was the last thing she wanted. It was wrong. But it felt so good she couldn’t bring herself to stop.
They stepped back into the house. Bakugo managed to kick the door shut behind them, never breaking the kiss. When they bumped into the kitchen island, he didn’t hesitate to lift her by her thighs and set her on top of it. That single action reminded her of just how strong he was, sending a jolt straight to the space between her legs. She remembered his well-built body perfectly, and she wanted to taste it again. God, what was she doing?
They finally separated and the sound of their heavy breaths filled the large room. Their chests went up and down quickly. Words were not necessary, as they were staring eye to eye. He smirked and took a moment to caress her thighs. She bit her lip, squeezing her legs. What a sight for sore eyes! Just before he could kiss her again, she grabbed his broad shoulders and stopped him.
“Katsuki, wait,” she breathed, interrupting him. “This is… wrong.”
She hated herself for killing the moment like that, but the little voice in the back of her mind wouldn’t leave her be. Obviously, she didn’t want to stop, but she wasn’t careless enough either. Facing the fact that she wasn’t the good person she thought she was her entire life was rough.
As soon as Bakugo heard that, his smirk faded away. Her boyfriend wasn’t the friendly reminder he needed. Just the thought of another man touching her skin drove him insane. But how could he complain? It was his fault after all. He had lost her. Not to mention he was the first one to jump into a new relationship.
He took a deep breath, calming himself more than calming her, and slowly rested his hands on the island, on each side of her legs.
“Yes, it is.”
Surely it wasn’t what she wanted to hear, because he glimpsed her eyes turning glassy.
“But you can be sure of one thing,” he continued. “You’re not doing this out of selfishness. I promise, Akami…”
He held both of her hands tenderly.
“…this is not a one-night stand. Lust didn’t bring me here to you… Love did.”
This did nothing but effectively make her cry. As tears ran down her cheeks, he couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she was, even crying. He thanked the stars it was late and no lights were on in the ground floor, because, otherwise, she could’ve seen the aggressive blush on his face. And it only got worse when she hugged him and buried her face on his neck.
“I miss you too,” she whispered, as if that way God wouldn’t hear her sinful feelings and punish her.
Bakugo held her tighter. He realized he could stay like that, in that very position for eternity and be happy anyways. Alone together, embracing each other, bathed only in moonlight. It was perfect.
Minutes passed until her sobbing stopped. That relieved him.
“Feeling better, dumbass?” he asked jokingly.
“Yes.”
Her breath against his neck sent chills down his spine, causing him to unwittingly tighten his grip on her lower back. Akami noticed and leaned back to look him in the eye. She noted that, even in the dark, his crimson gaze shined brighter than ever. He thought the same thing about her. None spoke; it was pointless. Their eyes communicated better on their own.
Maybe that was the reason why they tentatively looked down—at each other’s lips. Before they could ponder, they were kissing again, but slowly, letting themselves enjoy every part of it. The longer they dived into the kiss, the less they could control their hands. They were everywhere: she didn’t miss the chance to stroke all the muscles on his torso, and he didn’t fall behind, occasionally squeezing here and there. The distance between them was almost non-existent. As if this wasn’t enough, she took the opportunity and brought her hips closer to his—her intentions were clear.
Receiving the message, he directed his kisses to her neck, switching to his teeth from time to time. Her sighs and long sharp nails scratching his back only worked as a fuel to his already-lit flame. So, it was really hard to stop to speak.
“Do you want to do this?” he murmured against her ear.
“Y— “
“Think this through,” he warned, his voice a low growl. “’Cause, if you say yes…” He bit her earlobe, sending a fresh wave of heat through her. “…I won’t stop.”
Akami squeezed her legs together, her fingers digging into his shoulders. Not because she wanted to, but because she couldn’t help it. She was going crazy; she needed it bad.
“I want you,” she moaned. “Please, take me.”
This pleased Bakugo much more than he let on. He immediately resumed the kissing and rubbing, his movements urgent and heavy with a need he’d suppressed for too long. It wasn’t long before their clothes were discarded.
And they did it. Right then and there.
Driven by a bit of lust, fueled by so much love, and punctuated by plenty of “Who do you belong to?” and “You’re better than him/her.”
