It was a brisk autumn afternoon, with the air crisp and tinged with the faint, earthy scent of fallen leaves littering the sidewalk. Two had just finished their shift at the cozy, locally owned bookstore nestled on a quiet street two blocks from their modest, ivy-covered house. They were utterly exhausted; who would have thought that rearranging shelves, sorting new arrivals, and engaging with inquisitive customers could be so draining? Fortunately, the weekend was finally here, as today was Friday, and that meant Azure had the day off as well.
They quickened their pace, their strides purposeful and synchronized, eyes gleaming with determination. Upon reaching their front door, Two vigorously rummaged through their jacket pockets, feeling the rough texture of the keys, before finally retrieving the set of house keys from their left pocket—one key with a small brass bird-shaped charm. They unlocked the door with a satisfying click, stepped inside, and immediately detected an inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen—perhaps freshly baked bread or a rich vegetable stew, simmering on the stove, filling the cozy cottage with warmth.
“I’m home!” Two called out cheerfully to Azure, who was busy stirring a bubbling pot of vegetable stew in the kitchen, the steam rising in soft tendrils. "Welcome home, my nightshade. How was work today?" they asked, glancing over their shoulder at the steaming dish and noticing the faint aroma of herbs and garlic. Azure looked up from the stove, a gentle smile forming on their face as they responded, "Decent, nothing particularly exciting. I just wanted to get home quickly because I knew you'd be here soon." Their cheeks flushed subtly with a rosy blush, indicating genuine affection.
Though Azure couldn't see their expression clearly, it warmed their heart to know Two was eager to reunite. Azure’s voice softened affectionately, "No need to be embarrassed, my flower. I was equally thrilled to see you. I missed you today." After locking the door securely behind them, Two moved into the inviting living room, where a plush, patterned rug covered the wooden floor. They settled onto the well-worn couch, which was still a little damp from the rain earlier, the faint scent of wet fabric lingering. They shivered slightly from the chill outside and thought about grabbing a cozy, knitted blanket from the nearby linen closet, which was stuffed with various layers of blankets and throws. Two, feeling too lazy to get up, desperately wanted to cuddle with Azure, so they whined playfully, "Azure, I want cuddles!" in a melodramatic tone. In the kitchen, Azure gave a long, amused sigh. “Give me a few minutes, dear. I'm making lunch right now. When I'm done, I'll attend to you, I promise,” he responded with a warm smile.
Two, impatient but willing to wait, relaxed as they listened to the faint simmering sounds from the kitchen. They eagerly asked, "Can we cuddle now?". “Of course, my nightshade!” he announced with a tender tone. Azure grabbed a soft, gray blanket from the linen closet and draped it over both of them as they lay side by side. Azure gently pulled Two onto his lap, wrapping his arms around their shoulders, and kissed their cheeks softly before kissing their lips. Two let out a sigh of pleasure and relief, feeling incredibly lucky to have a partner as attentive and caring as Azure. They nestled closer, Arms draped around Azure’s shoulders, soaking up all the warmth as they cuddled comfortably on the couch, surrounded by the cozy sounds of the household.
