Work Text:
He smiled as he watched her twirl her pencil mindlessly. As the teacher behind him droned on and on, he fell into her silent spell, mesmerized by watching the pencil spin around and around her hand, again and again. A poke from behind broke his concentration. His eye twitched as he twisted his body around, raising a brow at his friend. His friend shook his head slightly, motioning forwards. He looked back and noticed the teacher staring at him. He stuttered, apologizing for not paying attention and asked for the question again. The teacher shook her head but repeated herself. He answered quickly, burying his face back in his book, face burning. She glanced back at him as he answered but he couldn’t face her.

As class ended, she sprinted out, her hair waving wildly behind her. He watched her with a smile on his face. He quickly packed up and headed for the door when he heard the teacher call her name. He turned around and told the teacher she had already left in a hurry. The teacher sighed, holding up her phone. He froze, time slowing around him. He felt himself raise his hand and go towards her, saying things. The teacher glanced at the phone in her hand before handing it over to him. He snapped out of his trance, finding the phone in his hand and outside the door. He messed with it for a second, playing around with how it felt in his hand. It was bigger than his own phone. He clicked it on and a picture of a dog appeared, smiling at the camera. He tilted his head, staring at the dog. It was a golden retriever, still in its younger years. He smiled, walking towards the exit.

As he made it to the parking lot, he barely caught sight of her, running back to the class. The phone in his hand felt hot, as he breathed in, hesitating before yelling her name out. Others turned but he paid no mind to them, waiting for her. She paused, spinning around, scanning the area for any familiar faces. Her face broke into a grin, glancing back at the gate before walking over.
“...Hey” She said breathlessly. He just stared at her as she stared back. She tilted her head, looking at him quizzaled.
“You left your phone in the class and…here.” He held up her phone, a sheepish grin on his face. She smiled wider, taking it from his hands.
“Oh my god, thank you so so much.” She gushed, holding her phone. They looked at each other, just waiting…until her phone lit up, a call waiting for her. She glanced down and answered it, bringing it to her ear.
Thank you! She mouthed, winking before hurrying back to the parking lot, chatting with her friend, or whoever was on the phone with her. He just stared at her figure, replaying the moment in his mind. A smile broke across his face as a lone honk broke him out of his trance.
