Chapter Text

Winnie dreams of big cities and unimaginable opportunities, while Augustine dreams of a quiet place they can settle down.
As Winnie stares out at the open road and ponders unanswered questions, Augustine stares at him and ponders their relationship.
He must be coming down with something because he’s been acting like this towards Winnie for weeks now.
When Winnie calls him on his house phone he practically tumbles down the full flight of stairs to answer it.
When Winnie talks to him he can barely focus because he’s too busy taking mental notes on every detail of his face.
When their friends bring up the dating allegations his face turns bright red and he can hardly deny them without Winnie present to make coherent sentences for him.
It’s pathetic to think all this adds up to something!… is what he wants to say.
But right now he’s just confused. He’s never seen Winnie as anything more than his best friend before.
Sure, there was always a quiet hum in the back of his mind whenever he looked at Winnie but that happens to everybody, right?
And fine, when he stared at him for too long he kinda felt like something was hiding. From Winnie. From himself. But who hasn’t?
The question gets too genuine the more times it’s asked in Augustine’s head.
Maybe the real question is ‘who has?’
