Typing Out My Fantasy

Summary:

Bakugou is the best at everything; if anyone disagrees, they’re an idiot and not worth his time. Hence, when he gets into fanfiction, he knew his work would be the best. He expected fame. What he got was hate (because of his attitude) an online boyfriend (because of his... writing?)

Or: the fic where fanfic writer Katsuki and fanfic-reading-fanatic Izuku unknowingly edate.

Notes:

Should I tag this as a crack fic treated seriously?? Is this even a crack fic??? I have no idea. Anyway uhhhhh I made this idea up with my friend as a joke, but now here we are. Song title inspired by Less Than Three, as well as a variety of tiktoks and a smidge of other fanfictions (namely ‘virtual boyfriends’ by r3nga) !!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: How It Started

Chapter Text

The sun is bright on the day Katsuki’s life irrevocably changes. Nothing is different about the morning; Mitsuki yells at him to get dressed, he eats a balanced breakfast after a quick shower, and brushes his teeth. He gets out of his house and goes to school, already pissed off at the sound of the birds, the cars, the people; the everything. Especially Deku, who he harshly shoves past as he enters the school.

The lessons proceed as regular: Maths, English, and some other topics that Katsuki already knows and revises often enough to bore a hole in his skull. It’s as he’s leaving the classroom for lunch that he walks by two girls gossiping with each other. The hallway is rowdy and full of noise, but Katsuki’s walking close enough to the girls that he can catch a snippet of their conversation. Katsuki’s observation skills are sharp, noting the pair are practically hugging the wall to avoid blocking the people in the crowd. One girl has her back to him, and her friend is in front of her, partially blocked from Katsuki’s view. He looked away as quickly as he’d glanced at them, keeping his gaze forward.

“Did you read the newest chapter yet?” The brunette whispered to her shorter friend, who shook her head in response. Girl 1 groans, complaining, “Ayano, I told you to get a Wattpad account alre—”

The rest of her words are cut off by her short friend slamming a hand over her mouth, nervously glancing at the passing students like girl 1 was revealing some terrible secret. Katsuki keeps walking, shoving the dumb conversation to the back of his mind as he takes a sharp left around the hallway corner, aiming for one of the vending machines. He’s hungry, and he forgot his fucking lunch like an idiot.

The memory of the conversation persists all day, pissing Katsuki off to no end. He snaps at more people than usual as a result, which still doesn’t solve his issue. Finally, at the end of the day, he shakes loose the losers that tail him and yanks his phone out while walking home. Usually, Katsuki hates texting and walking; it leads to accidents, and he’s the future number one so he doesn’t get into accidents. Regardless, ‘Wattpad’ circles around his head like a vulture, and he knows he won’t chill the fuck out until he looks it up.

What he finds is a fanfiction site. Purely to browse more of this website, he makes an account, setting his profile picture to something vaguely ‘him’—that being All Might’s Bronze Age suit, which was black and red. Katsuki likes the colour scheme. His username was one he deliberated over for a while, looking up from his phone to avoid walking into traffic while he thought it all over, eventually settling on ‘L0rd_Dyn4might’. Back on topic, Katsuki continues scrolling. He finds many original stories, some of which are pure garbage.

Katsuki turns his phone off, still on Wattpad’s home page, and focuses on getting home before Mitsuki called and started yelling at him for taking “too goddamn long” and “wasting dinner”.

That night, in bed, Katsuki lays awake whilst staring at the ceiling. It’s nine thirty, a whole hour after his self-imposed bedtime. Wattpad haunts him like a parasite.

That night, Katsuki sits up in bed, grasps his phone in his hand, and investigates how to make a story of his own. He viciously tamps down on whatever bubbling joy he has brewing in his stomach. Katsuki’s thirteen now, and no longer the starry-eyed child he was; writing stories about Pro Heroes shouldn’t make him so stupidly excited. Whatever he writes is undoubtedly the best fanfiction on the site, anyway. There’s no doubt about it; Katsuki’s fanfiction is going to be the best, simply because it’s his. The layout takes a few minutes for Katsuki to understand, alongside some searches for appropriate Bronze Age All Might pictures that Katsuki can use as his story’s cover, and then he’s writing.

That night, Katsuki unknowingly starts one of the most confusing, yet most rewarding journeys he’s ever been on.
