Chapter Text
Miranda: You know, Ferdinand... I do truly love you. Other than my father and Caliban, I have never seen another man. One of those men is my father, and the other is a monster. [Miranda moves her queen piece to take a bishop, landing a smirk on her face as she takes his piece.] You are like the queen piece to my king piece; you protect me, and without me, you would totally fall apart. [Ferdinand makes a face at being called the queen piece.] You see, the queen protects the king, and you protect me. You literally said, and I quote, "No, precious creature; I had rather crack my sinews, break my back, Than you should such dishonour undergo, While I sit lazy by." You don't want me getting hurt, under all that toughness of protecting me, you are soft. Though I do wonder, what are other people like... [she fiddles with her king piece before moving a pawn to take one of his pawns] You and my father are the only people I have ever met, well, since I was a little child. I remember people taking care of me, a bunch of ladies in nice apparel. Not far different from yours, very different from mine. Though I am glad to be wed, how will that work for me? Will we leave this island? Will I still be able to see my father, the man who raised me and saved me? Ugh! [She grips her knight piece too hard before taking another one of his pawns.] I am just scared, I don't know what truly to expect beyond this island that has been my home for years upon years. Though scared, I am excited to venture and actually see people! Though... for our actual wedding, what should I wear? I doubt I will wear this ragged dress; you would never let that happen. [They giggle. Ferdinand leans over and kisses her forehead, causing a blush between the two. I am glad I met you. You are absolutely terrible at chess, though. I know I shall beat you and your horrid chess playing. And afterwards, we shall play again, and you shall kiss me and cherish me as I expect, my love. Then, when we are wed, we shall share this story of chess, and I shall make all the greatest, newest companions with all of the lovely maidens! I shall be amazed at every single blooming flower and extravagant room. And while I was talking, you got yourself in checkmate! [The board showing Ferdinand's pieces in a Mating net.] Shall we play again, my love?
[They both smile at each other, setting the board back up, the king and queen sitting next to each other as always]
Ferdinand: Of course, we shall, my fairest.
