Work Header

Eternal 7 minutes.

Summary:

A woman, known as Amelia, dies suddenly. Dispatch Ranger Harvey Williams goes to investigate the scene while her bestfriend Ryleigh has no idea what has happened.

Grief is an endless cycle, it spirals on and on in peoples brains for what feels like an enternity. This is meant to reflect that.
(Ts is mostly for fun, lots of figurative language if u like figurative language. I also don't know much about Rangers // Dispatchers so forgive me on that part ;w;)

Notes:

This is supposed to be the last 7 minutes you feel and remember before you die but also with a twist. I wanted a mystery involved so i guess i'm saying theres no "canon" way Amelia died, we can only assume. I won't say if your answer is right or if it is wrong 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: 7 minutes.

Chapter Text

7 minutes.

7 minutes is all she needed. She felt the warm puddle seep into her clothes, the dark scarlet staining her white tank top.

She didn't have time to be mad over it. She needed to tell Ryleigh. She had too.

It can't just end like this.

She reached out for her phone, the shattered glass scraping against her arm and hand. The car door pushed itself into her.

6 minutes.

She let herself relax. Her mind wandered across valleys of broken and shattered memories. Memories that were too fragile and harsh on the mind.

Memories that stung harder than alcohol against an open wound.

5 minutes.

Her legs were numb, not the kind of numb she normally took comfort in. But the agonizingly painful numbness that comforted you within the night.

She couldn't help but think back to her cat, Wolfie. What if she didn’t make it home in time to see her precious baby.

Would he miss her? Would he move on?

4 minutes.

Her mind raced as she recalled her parents. How they would react when they saw the news. “We told her to be cautious down those roads.. such a shame”

It's like they were truly beside her, brushing her hair. Humming that awful, awful tune.

3 minutes.

Sirens blared behind her, she felt cold. Cold and wet — drenched if you will. But calm. Everything was going to be ok.

_____________

The dispatcher hopped out of his car, almost slipping on the firm ice on the ground.

“Damn it's cold out.” He huffed.

The car before him was totalled. Rolled on the side, broken glass hidden within the ice and snow. Waiting for an unsuspecting victim to lay their bare skin along its teeth.

He had no idea why the car crashed or how but there was a person inside and that's all that mattered.

“Hello?? Ma’am?” He called out, peering into the eerie dark consuming any light that entered its abode.

He slowly walked over, creeping quietly as to not disturb whoever the victim of the crash may have been. He fumbled with his flashlight momentarily, shining a light inside.

Velvet pools hiding glass and pieces of the dashboard covered the ground. In the center of the crimson ocean was a woman. Bright green hair, almost teal, and a freckled face. She wore a stained white tank top and light blue jeans. Her skin was a pale blue-purple, eyes empty and hollow, lifeless. Her eyes told most of the story, a tragic ending for someone so young.

Harsh snow quickly fell onto the ground, blinding anyone who attempted to step closer.

“Dispatch, this is Ranger Harvey speaking.” Harvey spoke firmly into his radio, his eyes glued to the body before him.

A loud static noise came from his radio before a clear voice came through. “10-4.”

“I have found a crash, and a body here on the side of Mount road.”

“Body on Mount Road?”

“10-4”

“Help is on the way.”
