Love You, Even When You're Bruised.

Notes:

Not too happy with this one, but i needed to get it out, it's been rotting in my drafts

Work Text:

The rain pelted the area hard. Gibraltar was used to such weather, being in the mountains meant when rain came,it was hard and heavy.

This made landing the ships harder. the engines had been overheating, straining under the harsh winds, a storm from up north was coming, this was just the start, their ships would soon be useless, hence the strike and returned early.

their number of ships had greatly reduced compared to their glory days. Overwatch had only recently been reinstated, but due to the talon threat many of the older agents had returned from 'death'

Captain Ana Amri, or rather, Agent Amari, came back from Cairo after hearing the news from talon agents she'd been tracking

Jack Morrison came back from some country, he travelled through many now.

their arrivals had coincidentally synced, and the agents were gobsmacked when their supposedly dead Commanders returned. It had been a warm welcome, but a question fuelled one.

Fareeha refused to talk to Ana, despite her mothers attempts at reconciliation. The woman she had mourned, the woman she buried, had never truly been dead. just a deserter.

Fareeha called her mother this to her face, as technically it wads true.

Ana fakes her death, and then reappears eight years later with a stronger accent and more scars than before as if the past near-decade was just a holiday.

Ana was pulled from her thoughts as the ship landed, metal walls vibrating against the storming sky as the metal helipad below came into view.

"LANDING SEQUENCE INITIATED" ATHENA said through the speakers, usually an agent would pilot, but they'd all been battered and couldn't handle the extra work, so they left it to the trusted Overwatch AI system, ATHENA.

The metal box landed with a shuddering groan, the doors opening with a sickening screech that meant Brigette had a lot of work to do after the storm cleared.

Then the mixed sound of boots clanging against the ship floor as agents rushed off for shelter inside Gibralter HQ.

Ana sighed, adjusting her rifle, considering how to get the gun inside without getting it any wetter than it already was.

She could tuck it under her coat, but then the handle would still get soaked.  Or she could wrap it in the coat, but then she'd be soaked.

As the woman thought, she was surprised as a hand suddenly grabbed her gun, she spun round, and got surprised as she saw the towering German behind her, the rifle now safely tucked under his arm.

"Ana."

He greeted with a tired smile, voice soft in a way it only was for her

"Come, the rain is only meant to get worse tonight."

She let his large hand place on her lower back, too tired to argue it tonight as the two friends walked inside.

-------

Ana was in the bathroom attached to her quarters, it wasn't a luxurious thing. A bog standard shower that didn't run hot water unless smacked right -she needed to pester the repair team again-, a small sink beside the toilet with a mirror cabinet, storing the basics. Toothbrush, toothpaste, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and whatever ice packs the woman stored.

Her now ungloved hand reached over and opened the cabinet, pulling it open slowly to avoid straining her aching shoulder, only to see it lay barren of any ice packs and healing balms that Genji gave out when he made too many.

Her lips pursed in mild annoyance before she sighed. Shutting the cupboard and moving to the shower instead. She turned it on, smacking the shower head as usual so she knew it ran right.

Ana tugged at her rain soaked shirt first, pulling it over her head and dropping it to the floor beside her. Usually she'd tossed it to a corner to take out after, but her bruise layered body was screaming for relief, and maybe hot water would help?

The rest followed swiftly, trousers and all.

Pulling the hair tie out last, she stepped into the shower,  immediately grimacing as the water was cold.

Oh well, she was already wet now.

Sighing, Ana proceeded to rake her hands through her greyed hair. She payed minor attention to the surroundings for once as her focus was on getting the feeling of that blasted rain off her chest, last thing she wanted was to catch a bug or something.

It took five minutes total, water running harsh over her skin as she rubbed away the ache of the mission when there was a knock.

"Ana! mein freund! I have some of the gel from Angela!" Reinhardt boomed from outside, waiting for permission to enter despite Ana repeatedly telling him he could walk in anyway.

A smile tugged at her lips. "Come in, Reinhardt, I'm in the shower."

She heard shuffling, something getting knocked then placed back, followed by the door opening.

Reinhardt entered. He had shed the metal armor in his own barracks,  now in a grey tank top and black trousers, showing off his many, many scars from decades of battling.

Ana smiled tiredly as he entered

"You said you brought gel?"

Reinhardt beamed, again, he always seemed jolly. He held up the tube.

"Angela had little left, we need restock tomorrow, but she said this would be enough."

Ana turned the water off, and Reinhardt's head turned away as she stepped out, dripping water onto the floor

"I'll take anything, if it fixes this damn bruise on my leg."

Reinhardt turned back when Ana had an oversized shirt on, she'd stolen it from him years ago, back when they were foolish and young. The edges frayed, sleeves worn, yet she kept it.

He failed to notice Ana's grin, and how she brushed her hair back over her shoulder when his hand  brushed hers handing over the c old gel.

Ana sat onto her bed with a sigh, the military style cot didn't help the ache in her body. she raised the tube and squeezed a blob out onto her hand, the clear gel was lukewarm due to being held in the tube for so long.

As she tried to get anymore, the tube just did a sad splutter. With an annoyed grunt, she tossed it onto the floor, sighing as she rubbed the bridge of her nose with her fingers.

Perfect, just PERFECT! Her muscles felt like fire, her ribs felt like knives, her arms felt like weights and her legs felt like cinder blocks and there was no damn pain relief.

Reinhardt noticed. He always did. He said nothing, knowing Ana would argue it. His large frame sat beside her on the bed, and his large hand enveloped hers.

Lifted her hand to his face, he pressed a kiss to the back of her palm. She went beet red, if possible.

"Reinhardt, I'm fine, really-"

Yet he just hummed. "If i believed you every time you said that, you'd be the finest person in the world, Ana."

She sighed, but relented. If he was offering, she wouldn't be one to not take advantage.

Moving over the bed to lean against his side, stealing his heat like an oversized hot water bottle.

Reinhardt's scarred arm moved around her waist, securing her in a soft grip which would stun anyone who didn't know her friend, he pulled her onto his chest as he layed down.

Ana was too tired to fight as his hand brushed her hair off her neck, her eyes shut for a moment.

Reinhardt smiled, seeing her relax. She rarely did.

He pressed a hand between her shoulder blades and pressed out, she let out a deep groan as the pressure in her back weaned, loosening between the joints

He kept going, eventually adding in a second hand.

And like that they stayed, till Ana inevitably succumbed to slumber, laying a top Reinhardt, one hand over his chest as the other stretched up over his shoulder, her legs nestled between his like a nest.

The giant man didn't dare move, too afraid to wake her. So he too fell asleep.
