Work Text:
She sighed, leaning her head against the window pane. It was so beautiful outside, with the leaves falling onto the sidewalk and scattering their colors about. Reds, and yellows, and orange and brown. Her breath fogged against the glass, and she knew the temperature had dropped.
"Will you stop your damn sighing?" her girlfriend griped from the couch. "I'm trying to read."
"Sorry, Lia."
"Metallia."
She smiled slightly. That time was clearly out of habit and not irritation. "There's so much we could be doing instead of sitting inside, though," she said. "Like enjoying the weather, or... Oooh! We could pick apples. Or we could take some instagram pictures in a pumpkin patch."
"Is your memory really as short as a dog's?"
Visco deflated. Of course. How could she forget that her girlfriend hated having her picture online? "Well... We could start planning our Halloween costumes."
"It's September," the blonde replied flatly, her eyes never leaving the pages of her book. "And you better not be planning some couple costume bullshit."
The raven couldn't help but pout. She's really trying to just be a reclusive and grumpy hermit even when she's not single, isn't she? "Don't you want to do things a couple does?"
"Not really, no."
She sighed, letting her head fall back against the cool window pane. There really was no helping her, was there? Stuck in her ways as much as any old person. Man, I really want a pumpkin spice latte right now... Her eyes widened slightly. "What about pumpkin spice lattes, Lia? And I'm sure someone has discounted their Halloween candy already?" She looked away from the window to see the book tossed haphazardly onto the couch with her girlfriend nowhere to be found.
A "Hurry your ass up!" came from downstairs, just before the front door slammed shut.
Visco chuckled and got up. She should have suggested sweets in the first place. She put on her coat and scarf, shaking her head when she saw that the blonde's things were still on their hook. Typical. She grabbed them, and her wallet and house keys, and made her way out the door.
Metallia was standing at the foot of the steps on the sidewalk, rubbing her arms as her breath puffed out around her like smoke. "Ab-bout time you got here," she snapped.
Rolling her eyes, Visco put helped her into the coat and tied the scarf around her neck, making sure to free her hair from underneath it. "There," she said, only for Metallia to shake her head like a dog trying to get water out of its ears and loosening the scarf in the process. She sighed. "What am I going to do with you?"
The blonde grinned, her fox ear-like cowlicks bouncing slightly in the breeze. "C'mon," she said. "You promised me a pumpkin spice latte, bitch."
She shook her head, unable to keep from grinning, before taking her girlfriend's hand and walking down the sidewalk.
After getting their lattes, Visco let herself be dragged back outside, away from the warmth and chattering, until Metallia finally let go of her hand to sit down on a nearby bench, focusing on her latte.
Visco chuckled and sat down next to her. "As much as you act the opposite, you're really cute."
Green eyes looked up at her in shock for a brief moment before Metallia's cheeks turned pink. "S-shut up," she mumbled, turning back to her latte and taking a drink. There was a few moments of silence before she let out a contented sigh and squirmed slightly. "So good."
"Heh." Visco took a drink of her own latte and turned to watch a leaf in a nearby tree. It looked like it was struggling to be free of the tree it was attached to before it finally broke off and swirled around once or twice in the breeze before skittering down the sidewalk.
"You're right," Metallia said quietly, most of her expression hidden behind her cup and her hair.
"Hmm?"
"It...it is nice out here," she mumbled. "Better...better than seeing it in a book..."
Visco smiled and leaned in and kissed her girlfriend's cheek gently, causing her to squeak in surprise and flush in embarrassment. "You're welcome, Lia."
"It's Metal--oh, never mind."
It's okay, she thought, watching as leaf landed on Metallia's head and got stuck between her cowlicks, and how she looked shocked for a moment only to start giggling uncontrollably. Seeing you this happy is sweeter than any pumpkin spice latte.
