Work Text:
You walk into the Ballroom, there’s a large staircase leading down, and the room itself is very large, decorated precisely. Classical music is being played on a string quartet by a large orchestra melodiously.
You're wearing a Lavender purple gown, it has Short puffy sleeves and is covered in beads arranged to look like flowers. Lace lines the bottom of it. Your mask is a darker shade of Purple with amethyst crystals arranged in it, your hair is put up in a beautiful bun, with pieces of your hair pinned intricately.
Beautiful glass-stained windows line the walls, colorful beams of light spill through them from the setting sun, painting the floor iridescently, and large crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, making the room all the more elegant. Intricate Paintings cover the ceiling.
The room is filled with people, Wearing Masks, Perfectly ironed suits, and dresses covered in beads, floral patterns, lace, and precise stitching, your eyes scan the room, unsure of what your looking for, you descend the large stair case and join the crowd, the center of the room is filled with people dancing in sync with each other the dresses flowing rhythmically, a server walks up to you with a tray of champagne, you kindly accept it giving a slight bow to him after you take it.
You make your way towards the back of the room, walking past groups of people conversing with each other. You don’t go to these types of events often, but you decided to go to this one for a reason you're not sure of.
You are approached by a woman. She wears a Light green dress, covered in floral lace and beads, a mask in the same color lined with white stitches, her eyes are a muted blue, and her hair is put up in a neat bun. “Hello,” she says, giving a small curtsy, to which you reply the same back,
“I’m Irene, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” she say offering a gentle smile. You introduce yourself politely, “It's very nice to meet you as well,” you say kindly.
“I couldn’t help but notice how Exquisite your dress was,” She says with awe on her face,
“Thank you,” You reply to her kind words,
“Of course! Would you like to join my friends and I? I think they would quite like to meet you,” she says serenely.
To which you reply, “I should like to join you!”
She leads you over to a small group of people and introduces you to them all. You exchange names and compliments on each other's dresses, while you chat for a while, you eventually break away, stating you would like to take a look at the refreshments and appetizers. They give their goodbyes.
You make your way to the table and look over it; it's full of Danishes, tartes, glasses of wine, and all kinds of exotic-looking foods. You settle on just a small berry-filled Danish, and you eat it carefully, making sure not to get any crumbs on your dress. It's an extraordinarily tasty combination of Buttery pastry and fruity filling. Once you finish it, you carefully take a glass of red wine, the glass looks like it's made of crystal its quite extraordinary, you can't help but admire it.
The music stops for a moments, several couples who were dancing step out of the circle for a break, while the music continues you decide to mingle among the many people filling the room, you approach a group of people and introduce yourself to them, they introduce themselves back, and you conversate for a moment but it wasn’t a very captivating conversation, they didn’t seem to be quite welcoming to you, excluding you from the majority of the conversation, you excuse yourself politely.
You try to mingle with other groups but fail. Maybe these kinds of parties weren’t for you. You walk over to the side of the room. Maybe you’ll just watch the dances and listen to the music. If nobody wishes to talk to you, you can at least still enjoy yourself.
You stand at the side of the room, still sipping on the red wine from earlier, eyes scanning the room. Just then, your eyes meet with someone; they are looking back? Your eyes lock for a moment, neither of you having the strength to look away, but he finally breaks eye contact and disappears into the crowd of people.
What was that? You wonder to yourself, something about his look captivated you, you walk into the crowd of people, hoping that maybe you would meet the mysterious man, but alas, after several minutes of looking, your met with nothing, you make your way back to the sidelines where you once stood in defeat.
You stand there for a moment, eyes searching the room once more. Maybe you just missed him? But no, he’s nowhere to be seen, maybe he left? A small frown grows on your face, disappointment? But all for what, for some guy you made eye contact with for 10 seconds? You start to feel like you were just being silly; he probably wasn’t even looking at you, There must’ve been someone behind you.
You look to your side and see someone who wasn’t standing there before; your eyes fill with shock immediately. It's him? And he’s already been looking at you, how long has he been looking at you, you wonder, you look away immediately to avoid him seeing your shocked expression, he takes a few steps forward, “shoot.. he’s leaving” you think to yourself, only for him to step directly in front of you, he looks directly into your eyes,
“Hello ma’am,” he says almost shyly, his voice deep in a soothing way. You can feel your face blushing, your mouth opens, then closes without a sound coming out, shoot! Try again, you think to yourself,
“Ahem, Hello sir!” you say, trying to act like you aren’t melting from nervousness,
“I- I’m Bob,” he says, a gentle smile on his face
“I’m ______, it’s a pleasure to meet you!” you reply stuttering a bit,
“I uhm.. was wondering if you would like to dance? With me!” he says anxiously, a hopeful smile on his face,
You feel a smile grow on your face,
“I would love to dance,” you say sincerely
He puts his hand out for you to put yours in, without thinking you set your hand in his, and he presses a kiss to it, shoot you are blushing again, he leads you to the dance floor and you stand on the side waiting for the next song to start, you try not to look at him, so you don’t come of as odd, but you can feel his gaze on you, the music comes to an end, and he walks into the circle with your hand in his, you freeze up, not sure why.
He looks at you expectantly, something about his eyes is more than enough to convince you, the music starts back up, he pulls you close and sets his right hand on your lower back, and holds your right hand gently, you look up to him his gaze already set on you, you see his light brown curls fall around his face, you finally get a good look at him, his eyes are a beautiful dark shade of blue, like a sea you get lost just looking in them.
the dance starts, You begin waltzing in synchronization, The music is Serene and rhythmic, his gaze still set on you sharply as if he doesn’t want to focus on anything but you, yet he’s still preforming the dance flawlessly, he extends his arm to side pulling you closer, you can feel the heat from him, the music is getting a bit faster now, he spins you carefully making sure you land slowly back in his arms, you smile, and he smiles back.
You and him continue this dance for what feels like an hour, though you know it's only been minutes, the music ends, and you realize you’ve been holding your breath. You let out a long sigh, and he leads you to the side of the dance floor.
“You're very skilled at dancing.” He says sincerely,
“Thank you,” you reply, a long silence falls, and your eyes scan the room, and fall upon a back exit to the garden,
“You want to get some fresh air?” you ask
“Y- Yeah, that would be nice,” He says.
You lead him towards the Garden and take a step out,
The garden is covered in flowers, Bushes, various trees, and fountains. And at the center of it all is a Gazebo lit with Fairy lights. You both make your way to it and find yourself looking off to the side once you're atop the gazebo, admiring the garden.
The light of the moon illuminates the garden, and the fairy lights twinkle lightly. Bob makes his way to your side, making sure not be too close that you are uncomfortable. You look up at him, but he’s entranced by the moon.
“It’s a really nice night,” he says
“It is”
A pleasant silence falls, but is broken
“Do you come to these things often?” Bob asks
“No… not really.. do you?”
“No, I don’t either,” he says, letting out a small chuckle
“I'm glad I came to this one though,” you say
His gaze falls onto you once again, to which you meet eyes
Your hand finds his. “Let's go on a walk,” you say
To which he nods with a small crooked smile on his face,
You make your way to the path in the garden, the only like is now the moon, it casts a glistening glow on him, he looks striking, his blue eyes have a glint in them from the moon, you find yourself at a large fountain, the sound of it flowing mixed with the bit of music you can still hear is calming, but is loudly interrupted by a loud chime from a clock, it grabs both yours and bobs attention, “its already midnight” you think to yourself? At midnight, the unmasking commences, you find yourself turning to Bob; you're curious to see what he really looks like. It didn’t really matter to you; he already won you over.
Bob approaches you, now within feet of you, and he asks, “May I?” gesturing towards your mask. You nod, and he carefully and slowly lifts your mask, revealing your face. He looks starstruck, “wow… you're even more beautiful without the mask,” he says in a very sweet tone, to which you blush.
“May I?” you speak in a hushed tone, barely above a whisper, he nods with a small smile, you quickly take your gloves off,
Slowly, you reach for his mask, lifting it carefully, revealing his face. You didn’t think he could be anymore gorgeous, but he somehow manage, his face was kind and endearing, but he looked nervous, almost scared that you might run off.
A gentle smile grows on your face, followed by blush, he looks relieved, you take a step closer to him, and his hand finds your waist, pulling you closer slowly and loosely, making sure you are able to slip aways if you wished to, his other hand tucks a stray piece of hair behind your ear, and then follows his other hand down to your waist.
Your left hand find his arm holding it lightly while your other hand reaches the back of his head, his hair is soft, he slowly moves in and presses a small kiss to your mouth, to which you gladly accept, he pulls away as if to ask if that was okay, to which you give him a look saying, “More than okay”
The rest of the night flies by, lost in conversation and gentle kisses.
