Work Text:
I called Gwen, my dearest puppy girl, over to the couch and patted my lap. She climbed up and sat on it, her tail swinging from left to right.
“Yes master?”
“Go get me your leash. I’m gonna take you for a walk.”
I watched her eyes light up in excitement and her tail speed up in its movement.
“Oh my gosh really really really!!”
“Yes, now go grab your leash and put on your shoes.”
“Okay!!” she said as she went to go fetch her leash from the closet in her room.
She came back holding her leash in her mouth. It was pink and a little dirty, with a silver clip for attaching it to her collar. I took it out of her mouth and patted my lap again. She sat down facing me and I attached the leash to her collar. I took extra care in making sure not to get it caught in her hair before I took a look at her collar itself.
It was a little off center so I straightened it and held the tag between my fingers. It read “princess” with a paw print and I flipped it to reveal the words “return to Delilah if found” with my number listed below.
“Something wrong, mommy?” She murmured.
“Nothing princess, just taking a look at your tag.”
“Oh alright!”
I dropped the tag and it dangled from her collar. I leaned in and kissed her cheek before she licked mine in return.
“Okay go get your shoes on alright?” I said as I held out her leash to be grabbed. She took it in her mouth instead and hopped off my lap. I watched as she fished her pair of converse from the pile. She put them on, and I walked over to her and tied them for her with big bunny ears and a heart full of love. She pulled me into a tight hug and I hugged her back, kissing her on the cheek.
“You ready to go, pumpkin?” I said after kissing her.
“Mhm mhm,”
“Alright, let's go then!!”
I got up and helped her to her feet before taking her leash and opening the door.
We live in a more suburban area, a nice neighborhood with a good chunk of woods every couple of miles and a nice concrete road. The ground surrounding the house and most others was a dank yellow, besides the dyed green grass in some peoples yards. I remember walking these roads when I was a teenager with my friends, going to “the spot” under a nearby bridge to smoke shittily rolled joints and get high. Those days are over, but I still reminisce over them.
Today was a warm summer day, but not too hot. Just warm enough to be comfortable in shorts and a tshirt, which was about what me and Gwen were wearing. The sun was veiled by a layer of clouds, resulting in it not beaming so bright and hot.
Gwen stayed by my side, rarely falling behind or speeding up. Her long dark hair had light copper undertones when the sun reflected off of her, and her eyes had just the prettiest fragments of maple and tobacco.
We passed a couple streets, all lined with houses varying in different colors and shapes, many having trees or other forage in their yard.
“So how was your day, doll?”
“Oh it was good, I played Fortnite and ate some kibble,”
“Awh, I’m glad that my pup has had a good day,” I say before I kiss her cheek. I watch her giggle and flush up a bit. “Hehe, someone's got a big ol crush on her master huh?”
“Noooo… well, maybe.”
“Cute.”
“Shushhh no it’s not!!” she says as she flushes up even more.
“Owh look at you!”
“Shut uppppp…”
“Noooo… cuties like you deserve to be praised!”
“Mmmhh… okayyy…” She says as she lets me scratch behind her ear.
We passed a nearby playground and felt Gwen tug on my sleeve.
“Yes pup?”
“Can I go play…”
I took a moment to think.
“Sure, you can go play on the playground for a couple minutes.”
She jumped with excitement and turned her back to me so I could unclip her leash. As soon as I did, she made her way to the structure. It was just me and her there, so she didn’t have to wait at all to use it. I sat down on a nearby stone bench to take a break and keep an eye on her.
The playground was big and tall, with multiple slides and a stairway up, along with a set of monkey bars attached by the east side. The structure itself had a concrete ring around it, containing rubber mulch in its confines. I watched as she climbed up the stairs and slid down the slide, using the upper bar to propel herself down with a faint weeee. After sliding down a couple times, she ran to the swings and sat down.
The swings were a separate structure, also surrounded by mulch encased in a concrete ring.
“Push me push me!”
“Alright, puppy.” I said as I stood up and walked over to the swings.
I started by grabbing the chains of the swing, winding back and pulling her further into the air before I let go. She kicked out her legs in front of her as she went forward.
“Weeeee!! Ehehehehehe!!”
When she came back I pushed her harder. I kept this up until she was high enough to not need my assistance any longer. She kept swinging, her legs going back and forth as she did.
10 minutes passed, then 20, and they kept passing until the sun started to dimmer in its brightness.
“Gwendolyn dear, we gotta go home, it’s getting dark.”
“Okay mommy!!” She said as she jumped off the swing.
She landed on her feet, stumbling a bit but finding her balance. She came over to me on the bench and turned her back to me so I could reclip her leash. I pulled it out of my pocket and did so after telling her to lift her hair. I pet her a small bit and kissed her cheek.
We left, again with her by my side walking closely next to me. The streets looked different at night, so I made sure to keep my pup extra close. It was still quite warm out in the dark, as summer nights were.
We got home safe, and I took off her leash.
“Go hang this back up in your closet, okay princess?”
“Okay!!” She said as she took it and went to her room.
I took off my shoes and when she came back I untied hers. I took off my bra and sat with her on the couch.
“Did you have fun sweetheart?” I asked.
She slumped onto me and got all cuddled up on my chest.
“Mhm mhm,”
I pulled her closer and stroked her hair.
“I’m glad dear,”
I grabbed the remote from the side table and turned on some random sitcom before pulling the fluffy blanket we keep on the couch over us.
“Can we go to the park more?” She mumbled while nuzzled into my neck.
“Of course we can,”
“Yayyy…”
