Like burning embers

Summary:

Will and Kim enjoy the nightlife in Paris

Notes:

I've been re-reading WDA and can't get enough of Will and Kim so I wrote a pointless little fic of the two of them dancing. They deserve all the happiness in the world. <3

Work Text:

Kim’s dark eyes gleamed in the dim light of the nightclub. Will could spend eternities to study his eyes. They were always dark, of course, but sometimes the darkness seemed to be endless. So deep, Will wanted to drown in them. Sometimes though, there was a pinch of lightness in his eyes. A sparkle, when Kim was happy and allowed the outside world to witness it. Most of the time his face was blank and his eyes concealed any emotion. Tonight, however, his eyes sparkled. He was at ease and almost carefree. They were in Paris, visiting Maisie and Phoebe. The two women were beyond excited with Maisie’s success here and had wanted to celebrate in one of those modern nightclubs. Will and Kim had agreed immediately and so here they were, sipping a cocktail whose name Will had already forgotten.

Will couldn’t stop looking at Kim. He was always beautiful but tonight he looked especially enchanting.

“Will, you’re staring.” Kim remarked with a smile.

“Well, I have every reason to stare. You look exceptionally beautiful tonight.”

Kim turned his eyes down at Will’s word. Will knew that he was sometimes overwhelmed by kindness. So he took his hand and squeeze Kim’s perfectly manicured fingers. They heard a giggle nearby and turned their heads. Maisie laughed heartily while spinning Phoebe around on the dance floor. Will himself felt at ease, too. Paris appeared to be a different world, or at least the fashion and artsy quarters. He could hold Kim’s hand without the fear of being watched by nosy bystanders. He even dared to kiss him in public. It was liberating. There was one thing though, they hadn’t done yet and it would be a shame not to, since Will loved it very much.

“Would you like to dance with me?” Will asked. Kim looked up at him and the gleam in his eyes burned even brighter.

„I‘d love to.“ He answered. Will stood, offering him hand. Kim took it and rose from his seat with a catlike elegance. They went to the dance floor where Maisie and Phoebe currently danced to a slower tune. Maisie winked at Will as he put his arms around his lover. He grinned back at her as he swayed with Kim in his arms. Will’s experience of dancing with another man was low, all in all. It was quite different compared to dancing with women. Where he was used to soft curves and breasts, he now embraced Kim’s slim torso and was pressed against his firm chest. The material of his fine suit felt different than the silk of female frocks these days. Most significant though: he could look straight into Kim’s beautiful eyes. If he leaned just a bit closer, they would touch from head to toe. Dancing with Kim definitely had its own appeal.

“Have I mentioned that you also look very alluring tonight?” Kim asked with a rough voice.

Will shrugged and pulled his lover closer. Of course he had tried to look smart tonight but he would never call himself “alluring”.

Kim reached up and traced his cheek gently. “You really are. Don’t ever doubt it.”

“Yeah, if you say so. Still, you’re the most handsome man in this room, that’s for sure. And I’m convinced there’re some men who’re pretty jealous that I am dancing with you right now.”

Kim’s lips curved up in a sultry smile. “Hmm, let’s make them even more jealous, shall we?” His hand wandered from Will’s cheek to his neck, pulling his head closer to his own. Their foreheads touched and their lips were just a breath apart from each other. Will brushed his mouth against Kim’s, just a brief, almost shy touch. Kim responded with a more firm kiss, tracing Will’s lips with his tongue. Will gasped silently and Kim pushed languidly into his mouth. They kissed as they danced: slowly and without haste. They swayed to the music while their tongues glided against each other. It wasn’t the hot urgent fire they so often felt, rather burning embers - warm and comforting, with the ability to turn into a fire. A surge of pure bliss went through Will. He danced with the man he loved in a club, he kissed him in front of other people and nobody judged him. He never would have thought that life could be like this for him. Will stroked his thumb over the nape of Kim’s neck - a particular sensitive spot, as he knew. Kim purred into his mouth and seemed to melt against Will’s broad body.

“Hmm I’m sure the other men here are more jealous of me right now. I have a stunning and strong man who makes me putty in his arms.” Kim murmured against Will’s lips.

Will laughed. “A strong man’s love is your delight, if I remember correctly.”

Kim looked at him through slightly hooded eyes. “You do remember correctly. Your love is my delight. Always.”

Will felt his own heart beating faster at those words. “God, Kim. You have such a way with words.” He kissed his lover again, this time the fire burned bright. Later, he would make Kim burn again and be burned by him all the same.
