Work Text:
Sally was back in Montauk again.
It had been 3 months since she’d last been here, since she had felt the cool waves against her feet and the soft sea breeze, since she’d smelt the grimy scent of the ocean. 3 months since she had met him, and her life had changed forever.
The tides had been high, the night before she’d met him. She’d made the mistake of leaving her sandals out. When she’d awoken the next day, she’d found, rather dismayed, her sandals completely drenched.
He had appeared, then. He’d walked casually along the shore. As he walked, the waves had gotten a bit stronger, had reached a little farther, fizzling around his feet.
He had worn khaki shorts and a Hawaiian t-shirt. She still remembered.
He’d stopped at her cabin, his eyes sympathetic to the state of her wet sandals. I apologise for this, he had said. If you wish, I could stop the tide for you tomorrow night. Then this will not happen again.
That is where they had started.
And here she was now.
Usually, Sally only came here just once a year. However, this time, it felt right to come back a little early.
Gazing at the sea, she placed a hand over her stomach — over her child.
She wondered how they were going to be like. Their journey was going to be difficult, she knew; the children of the Gods weren’t ever afforded easy lives.
Do not fear. If anyone can look after a demigod, it is you, Sally. That is what he had told her, the last time she had seen him.
As the waves battered the sands, Sally Jackson made a promise — whatever may come, she will do the best in her ability to give her child the life they deserve.
