Chapter 1: Youth

Chapter Text

Smells never bothered Guita they eventually go away, but this one stayed, it stuck. Following behind her as a shadow.

She thought she was the only one to notice the smell, but they did too, and they weren’t very kind about it. She could hear the nicknames they made about her, the way they held their breath whenever she got too close. Whenever it was group work she had no one to work with since she was “stinky Guita” or “greasy Guita.”

She couldn’t understand why they treated her the way they did when all she wanted was to just have a friend even if that friend didn’t actually like her, all she wanted was to feel like someone, anyone enjoyed being around her.

Having she had enough of being bullied for the way she smelt she decided the best way to get rid of her smell was to find out the problem of it. Searching up the possible reasons as to why her smell is so bad or “smelt like death” as they described it. The internet came up with something about ‘personal hygiene’ she didn’t know what that word meant but it must’ve been important.

~~

“Absolutely not!” “We put a roof over your head and food on the table is that not enough!?” Guita knew her parents wouldn’t have a very strong opinion about this but they never did this before. Maybe she could try reasoning with them without upsetting them more,”But mama, dada, all the kids bully me and call me nam-“ “Oh shut up!”

Before she could get her words out, her father’s hand made contact with her face. She could tell he didn’t use a lot of force which she guessed was to not make it bruise since a hand shaped mark on her face would definitely make him suspicious. But it didn’t change the fact that it hurt, in fact it made it hurt more. Did he think she was too fragile to handle his real strength? Well maybe she was, but that wasn’t the point!

Touching on her face to see if she was injured she felt a warm liquid that was either her blood or tears. She was hoping it was her blood since her parents would go absolutely ballistic if she even shed a tear around them. But of course with her luck it just so happened to be her tears. Curse her! Maybe she could wipe them away before they noticed,“Oh look at the thing and those crocodile tears!” Too late she forgot her observative her mom was.

She couldn’t even defend herself before she was cut off “Oh boohoo, go cry us a river and see if we care” She didn’t even notice how hard she was crying until her dad pointed her out. Maybe all the kids and her parents were right. She is a crybaby. She should stop crying. Life would be so much easier. Maybe her parents would love her more but she highly doubts that.

“Sorry mama…sorry dada… I’ll try not to be so annoying and stop crying all the time..” For once in her life, her parents looked at her with something other than pure disgust or hatred. Maybe she finally convinced them to lo- “Oh look the thing’s learning, HA” or maybe not…”Almost had me fooled for a second!” Her dad belly laughed, seemingly finding his own joke funny which it was not. Or maybe it was funny but not to her since she was the one the joke was targeted too.

“How about you go to your room and stop bothering me and your dad? Sounds good to you well I don't really care just get out of our faces.” Her mom said in that fake, sweet tone she used whenever she was on the verge of losing her patience, and Guita knew that she would not want it to end up like last time or worse.

~~

Laying on her back all the time was causing her serious back problems, or is it her posture? Guita didn’t know what it was but she couldn’t get in a comfortable position in bed at all because of her back pain. She was WAY too young to be having back pain. Back pain is for old people like the candy man, not young little, five year old her.

Rolling onto her side she finally got rid of that throbbing-oh never mind, it came back. Back pain was one issue but she couldn’t sleep because of that constant throb, that constant ache. Guess she’ll just have to lay in bed, uncomfortable, until her brain ultimately shuts off, or eats itself. Who knows?

After some time of just staring at the ceiling, contemplating her life choices, she FINALLY went to sleep, only for her alarm to immediately go off. Staring at her alarm, it read ‘5:10 am’ which was the time that she had to wake up, not her parents. So if she set an alarm for at least 5 minutes her parents wouldn’t even notice she got up at the wrong time. It was a bulletproof plan. Now, all she had to do was to just get a little more sleep and not miss the bus which came at about…’6:30’, so there’s no way she could possibly miss it.

All that thinking about missing the bus made her too scared to go to sleep, like, what if she actually misses the bus and her parents punish her? Or worse, what if when she’s asleep someone breaks in and kills her parents? With that in thought she might as well go and get ready for school, since she’s definitely not going to be able to sleep after that.

~~

School today was horrible, like, worser than the worst days she’s had at school (which is everyday). The day started off normal (well, besides her almost passing out from exhaustion) the bullies did their bullying, the teachers doing their usual speech whenever she told them about the bullying and how “maybe they have something going on at home” or “they might be scared of you and react with violence” which she thinks is stupid and she’s told them such, but they told her off like always.

Lunch time was her time to relax and be away from those kids whose parents obviously didn’t raise them right, because if they did she wouldn’t have to hide away in fear of being attacked, in fear of being judged for the way she smelt. Oh well, no need to dwell on the negative things in her life. Not when she had such a delicious looking BLT (that she made herself) in her lunchbox. She couldn’t wait to taste the flavors (especially the bacon) but before she could even take a bite, someone took- no snatched it out of her hands and threw it to the ground.

Looking up to see who took it she came face to face with no one other than the boy who spread all the rumors, the boy who was the main leader of all her bullies, the boy who was the whole reason why the whole school either pitied her or bullied her, Huna. “Nice seeing you here, stinky Guita” he fakes a gag as if to prove his point which would’ve bothered Guita if she wasn’t so used to it. “Why would you do that Huna! I’m starving and that sandwich was the only thing I had to eat for the day!” Huna’s smirk quickly disappeared from his face becoming a frown, “Awh, is little ol’ Guita mad because she’s greasy and stinky?”

Guita had finally reached her point with Huna and his little ugly self, but even she couldn’t expect what words came out of her mouth and she couldn’t tell he didn’t either, “Well at least my mom didn’t cheat on my dad with multiple other men and I ACTUALLY know who my REAL dad is!” She could see his face go from confusion as he was processing what she said to pure fury. Huna didn’t say anything to defend himself or his mother he just lunged himself at Guita aiming straight towards her stomach, which thankfully she dodged or it would’ve been really painful.

Guita barely had anytime to recover before Huna came rushing back to towards her, and she could tell one of them wasn’t going to be so lucky this time. As Huna was rushing towards her, she quickly kicked her foot out which she was hoping would trip Huna giving her time to run away, but what she didn’t account for was for him to trip over his own shoelaces. By the time Guita realized what happened it was too late, Huna had a bloody, broken noise, but that wasn’t the worst part. One of Huna’s tooth punctured through his bottom lip, connecting the upper lip to the bottom with blood dripping from the sides of his mouth.

Huna began crying, because who wouldn’t when their lip was being stabbed by their tooth? his emotions were very understandable, but it was making Guita really scared that all his crying would attract teachers, and against her better judgement she ran away from the scene, leaving Huna by himself.

“He didn’t deserve my help, he’s my biggest bully so why should I care he’s finally getting what he deserves?” Guita was trying to excuse her actions and convince herself that leaving him there was the right decision, and she was sure someone had found him already… right? Well it’s too late to be thinking about him and his wellbeing, Guita was finally home so she could finally get that long deserved sleep.

~~

Laying her head on the pillow, Guita were about to fall asleep until she was hit with a blinding light coming from… her doorway? She couldn’t be bothered to get up and close the door, she was so exhausted, but before she could even close her eyes again, her sleep was yet again ruined by her parents this time. Not by them checking up on her, but by her mom’s yelling and her dad grabbing a fistful of her hair, (which hurt since it was extremely tangled), and dragging her downstairs.

“Mama… papa… what’s goi-“ She flinched as she was interrupted, “SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!” Why was her mom so angry? And why was her dad dragging her..outside? This doesn’t make any sense? Were they kicking her out? No that cant be right, she’s underage so she can’t be kicked out, but her parents never followed the laws anyways. “You know what you did to that boy!” Oh so that’s what this is about, “mama, I didn’t mean too..” “You didn’t mean to WHAT?! You didn’t mean to get caught didn’t you.”

Oh no, her mom has the certain edge in her voice which means she’s set her mind on her something and will not budge no matter what she’s told. Reasoning with her mom was out of the equation but maybe, just maybe, “Dada, please stop you’re hurting me!” Will her dad be kind just for once? Just for tonight and stop what he’s doing? “No child of mine will hurt innocent children just because they’re afraid of the truth” The truth? Is he siding with some boy he doesn’t know without hearing my side first?

“D-Dada, Mama! he’s a bully, and I know what I did was wrong, but I didn’t mean to! It was an accident! Believe me, please!” Unfortunately, her words fell on deaf ears as her parents had already entered the house leaving her locked outside. She’s been locked outside plenty of times before, but she could tell this time was different, this time they weren’t going to let her back in no matter how much begging she did, and it was way more cold than usual because of the cold front. Maybe she’ll be able to find someone willing to take her in? But she had to be quick because she could feel the cold seeping into her bones alongside the exhaustion.

~~

After what felt like ten hours- which was probably only ten minutes, Guita couldn’t walk anymore, she was simply too exhausted and the cold didn’t make it any better. It felt as if she was walking on knives, each step leaving a lingering throb, each step making her wince in pain.

Guita knew death was inevitable. She was a small ‘fragile’ child wearing thin layers during the coldest cold front recorded in history. She didn’t want to die, not yet…at least… She wanted to grow up and become the strongest cleaner ever, but maybe in a different universe…

Before she succumbed to the cold, Guita could see a very faint figure approaching her, one last thought flashing in her head before everything went black; ‘did someone come to save me?’
