Work Text:

Tim smiled as he watched his daughter stare at the suit with wide eyes.

“Go on, little ghost, it’s yours,” Danny said gently, nudging Kennedy closer to the case.

“It’s mine?” She whispered, eyes as wide as saucers as she reached out and touched a sleeve.

“Listen, if you’re going to sneak out when your dad and I are on patrol to play vigilante, we’re going to do it right,” Tim said with a soft laugh as he opened the case. “So yes, this is yours. It’s got all the best upgrades and tech, and since you don’t want to be sidekick to your lame-o dads, you’ll be working with the Birds of Prey instead.”

Kennedy whipped her head over to stare at Tim in surprise. “Papa, you don’t mean—”

“I’ve always wanted my own sidekick,” Steph said, walking into the room. She punched Tim in the arm as she strolled towards Kennedy and threw her arm around the girl’s shoulder. “Well, I’m sharing custody of you with Cass, but you’re still my sidekick first.”

“Do I get to choose my own hero name or?”

Steph grinned at her. “I was thinking Plot Twist. You know, since I’m Spoiler and it’s thematic and all.”

Kennedy let out a loud squeal and Tim nearly cried at the pure joy on his daughter’s face. Danny wrapped his arm around his waist and squeezed him tight as their daughter and Steph started talking about vigilante work and what it was going to look like.

“You really think this is going to be a good idea?” Tim whispered, nerves rearing up as they always did when it came to their daughter.

“She’s sneaking out when we’re out on patrol anyway, this way we at least know she’s safe,” Danny murmured, running his hand up and down Tim’s back. “I just know that Steph won’t let anything happen to her.”

“We’ll protect her with our lives,” Cass said, suddenly appearing beside them. “Besides, you’ve been training her for years now, and she’ll start training with us as well.”

“I know, I just worry about her. She’s so headstrong and she always thinks she’s right,” Tim said, wringing his hands.

“I wonder where she got that from,” Cass laughed, giving him a look. “We’re going to take her out for a patrol tonight. Tomorrow we will start her training with us so that we can find our rhythm.”

“Ken!” Danny suddenly called and the dark haired girl whipped her head over to look at him. “Come over here.”

Tim watched as his baby girl jogged toward them, her smile taking up her entire face. “What’s up Dad?”

“I need you to listen to me carefully, Little Ghost,” Danny said, leaning on his cane as he stared down at their daughter. “You have ghost powers, but that doesn’t mean you always need to rely on them, that makes you sloppy. Just because you can go intangible and invisible doesn’t mean you only rely on that. You listen to your aunts, you stay aware of your surroundings, you pay attention and you keep your wits about you. Do not just rely on your powers to keep you safe, do you understand me?”

Kennedy nodded, a quick bob of her head. “Yes sir. I know how scared you guys are about letting me patrol, but I’m ready, I’ve trained for this. I won’t let you down.”

Tim smiled and pulled her in for a tight hug, ruffling her short black hair. “You could never let us down, kiddo. Now, go kick some ass.”

Kennedy let out an excited squeal and hugged Tim tight before she let go and grabbed Danny for a tight hug. Danny let a soft purr as he kissed the top of her head.

“Aunt Steph said I’m staying the night with her and Aunt Cass so I’ll see you guys tomorrow, okay?” She said, smiling up at them.

“We’ll see you tomorrow, Little Ghost,” Tim told her before he watched her grab her new suit and dart out of the room with Cass and Steph in tow.

Tim smiled as he leaned into his soulmate’s arms. It was crazy to think that just sixteen years ago Danny had come to Tim with the wild idea of not only having a child but to make a clone child. Apparently, Dani had come up with the idea when she found out the two were wanting to have a baby and had put the idea in Danny’s head.

Kennedy Jasmine Fenton-Wayne was perfect. She had Tim’s short stature and intelligence, Danny’s powers and kindness. She was dark haired, blue eyed, and perfect in every sense of the word.

Tim was one of the lucky ones. He met Danny naturally, not needing to rely on the soulmate searching apps or websites. The two had met at seventeen when Tim was on his search for Bruce. He had found Danny when he went snooping in Amity Park in search of a portal that could potentially help him find Bruce. He found the portal, but he had also managed to find his soulmate, making the entire thing all the better.

They had formed a fast camaraderie, quickly becoming friends as Danny helped him get to Bruce. Friends became boyfriends, boyfriends became fiances and at twenty years old, they found themselves married.

They were nearly forty now with a precocious teenage daughter and ten year old son, Riley, and were living their best lives. Their lives weren’t perfect, not by any means whatsoever. But it was theirs and Tim was so happy to be doing life with him.

“Come on, we’re taking the night off so she can’t accuse us of spying on her,” Danny told him, winding their fingers together.

“Teenagers,” Tim said with a snort. “Little Bird is staying the night with Conner and Cassie tonight, you know what that means, right?”

“Eating ice cream out of the carton and watching Star Trek?” Danny asked him, his eyes lighting up.

“God, I love you,” Tim swooned, leaning in to give Danny a kiss. Riley was staying the night with the Sandsmarks so that he and the Sandsmark twins could go to some action park in the morning which meant Tim had his soulmate all to himself.

“I love you too,” Danny said with a soft laugh. Tim wrapped his arms around the halfa’s neck and stood on his toes as he gave him a soft kiss. “Now, you go get the ice cream, I’ll get Star Trek set up.”

“The original series, right?”

Danny scoffed as he slapped Tim’s ass lightly, the two walking up the stairs together. “What do you take me for? Of course the original series.”

Tim laughed and shoulder checked his husband. “Do you want ectoplasm to put on yours?”

“Yes please, Dear,” Danny sang. The two parted ways at the top of the stairs and Tim made his way to the kitchen. He wouldn’t stress about Kennedy on patrol, he wouldn’t think about all the things that could go wrong, or what could happen to her. She was in good hands with Cass and Steph. They had trained her for this from the moment they knew she wanted to be a hero.

Instead, he would eat ice cream and cuddle with his husband on the couch as they watched their favorite show together.

Their life wasn’t perfect, but it was theirs, and it was the only life Tim ever wanted.
