APPARENTLY OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Summary:

Gwen’s type in women sounded suspiciously unfamiliar... Almost like Maloi was the complete opposite of Gwen’s so-called “type.”

Work Text:

It was a quiet evening in their shared apartment. Maloi was sprawled across the couch, lazily scrolling through her phone, while Gwen sat beside her, pretending to read a book but actually just staring at Maloi with an unreadable expression.

Then, out of nowhere, Gwen spoke.

“Mahal, ano’ng type mo?”

Maloi blinked, pausing mid-scroll. “Huh?”

“Type mo sa babae,” Gwen clarified. “Ano?”

Maloi tilted her head, a slow smirk forming. “Gwen, I have a girlfriend. Bakit need mo pa malaman ang type ko?”

Gwen shrugged. “Just curious.”

Maloi stretched, pretending to think hard about it. “Hmm… well, I like someone warm and sweet. Someone who can make me laugh without trying so hard, who’s affectionate, fun, and full of energy when it comes to me.” She turned to Gwen, smiling. “Basically, ikaw.”

Gwen’s expression softened for a moment before she cleared her throat. “I see.”

Maloi chuckled. “Alright, what about you?”

Gwen sat up straighter. “Ang type ko?”

“Yep.”

Gwen’s expression turned thoughtful. “Hmm… I guess gusto ko ‘yung quiet and mysterious. A little reserved, but elegant. Someone who keeps to herself, doesn’t talk too much, and is always composed.”

Maloi’s smile faltered.

She blinked. Once. Twice.

“…I’m sorry, ano?”

Gwen took a sip of her coffee, unfazed. “Yeah. I find that kind of woman really attractive.”

Maloi sat up, pointing at herself. “So you’re telling me… gano’n ang type mo?”

Gwen nodded. “Uhuh.”

Maloi scoffed. “Baby. Nakikita mo ba ‘ko?”

Gwen smirked. “Every day.”

Maloi threw her hands up. “Then why does your ‘type’ sound nothing like me?”

Gwen calmly turned a page in her book. “Never ko naman sinabing type kita.”

Maloi’s jaw dropped. “EXCUSE ME?!”

Gwen chuckled, finally looking up at her. “Baby, kalma.”

“Kalma?! You just told me na hindi mo ako type!”

“That was not what I meant. What I meant was my ‘type’ is different.” Gwen closed her book and leaned closer. “But that doesn’t mean I want my type.”

Maloi narrowed her eyes. “So sinasabi mo na I’m not the kind of woman you usually go for, but you ended up with me anyway?”

Gwen tilted her head playfully. “Yes.”

Maloi gasped dramatically, placing a hand on her chest. “Oh my gosh. You settled for me.”

Gwen rolled her eyes. “I did not settle.”

Maloi flopped onto the couch, groaning. “I am nothing like your dream girl. I’m loud, I talk too much, I’m chaotic, napaka-OA k—”

Gwen cut her off by pressing a finger to her lips.

“Mahal,” she said softly, her usual serious tone melting into something warm, “I don’t love my type. I love you.

Maloi’s lips twitched, but she kept up the pout. “Still. This is very upsetting news.”

Gwen sighed and leaned closer, resting her forehead against Maloi’s. “Fine. Gusto mo ba na baguhin ko ang sagot ko?”

Maloi squinted. “Yes.”

Gwen chuckled. “Alright. My type is an adorable, talkative, affectionate little troublemaker who steals my clothes and sobrang OA sa halos lahat ng bagay.”

Maloi grinned. “That’s better.”

Gwen smirked.“Good. Now, tapos na ba tayo sa existential crisis mo?”

Maloi huffed. “Siguro.”

Gwen kissed her nose. “I love you.”

Maloi snuggled closer, sighing dramatically. “I guess I love you, too. Kahit hindi ako ang type mo.”

Gwen laughed. “Baby, you are my type.”

Maloi beamed. “Dapat lang.”

++++

Later that night, Maloi was still not over it.

She lay on Gwen’s chest as they cuddled in bed, absentmindedly tracing shapes on her shirt. “I just can’t believe you said your type is some mysterious, elegant, composed woman.”

Gwen, who had been running her fingers through Maloi’s hair, sighed. “Mahal, ‘yon pa rin ang iniisip mo?”

“Yes! Because look at me! Do I look reserved? Do I seem composed?”

Gwen stared down at her. “You look adorable.”

Maloi pouted. “That’s not the point.”

Gwen chuckled, tilting Maloi’s chin up so she could kiss her forehead. “Okay, mahal. Let me explain it this way.”

Maloi looked up at her expectantly.

“You’re not my type in theory,” Gwen began, “but in reality, you’re exactly what I want.

Maloi blinked. “…That’s actually really cute.”

Gwen smirked. “See? Now, p’wede na ba tayong matulog?”

Maloi hummed in thought. “One more question.”

Gwen sighed dramatically. “Ano pa?”

Maloi narrowed her eyes. “How do you even know you like quiet, elegant women, huh? May naging girlfriend ka ba before me?”

Gwen’s lips twitched. “Wala, ah.”

Maloi squinted harder. “Then paano mo nalaman?”

Gwen tried to keep a straight face. “Books. Movies.”

Maloi gasped. “Oh my gosh. You had a crush on a fictional woman.”

Gwen smirked. “Maybe.”

Maloi pointed at her. “Sino? Who is the woman who made you think you liked the quiet and elegant type?”

Gwen chuckled. “Hindi ko sasabihin sa’yo.”

“Gwen, sabihin mo naaaaa.”

“No.”

Maloi huffed. “Fine. But just so you know, ako na ang totoong type mo simula ngayon. I’ve officially changed it.”

Gwen raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And how did you do that?”

Maloi smirked. “By being irresistible.”

Gwen rolled her eyes but pulled Maloi closer. “Fine. Panalo ka na.”

Maloi grinned triumphantly. “Of course, I do.”

Gwen kissed her forehead. “Goodnight, mahal.”

Maloi nestled into her arms, satisfied. “Goodnight, baby.”

And with that, she finally let it go—secure in the fact that, fictional crushes or not, Gwen was undeniably, helplessly in love with her.

Notes:

I am sorry for the delay in the promised reuploads. My ex recently passed away at a young age. Even though we hadn’t been together for a long time, she was once someone very important to me. She was part of my formative years, part of who I was becoming back then, and her passing hit me harder than I expected.

I never wished harm on her, not even after we broke up. In time, I came to appreciate what we had for what it was. Hearing that she was gone felt surreal, and I needed space to process the shock, the memories, and the grief that came with it.

Thank you for giving me that time. I’m uploading again now, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
