Work Text:

Micheal fiddled with his thumbs on the couch, trying to take up as little space as possible because of the sudden change in the fact he’s not technically homeless anymore. He had a weird memory of being used to this place, used to Mike, used to Abby, and none of it was real. Now everything felt weird, almost like he didn’t belong.

He wanted to crumble for some reason, to hide. That felt like something he should be doing. His mind was swirling as he imagined the possibility of Mike pitying him. Micheal felt like the world around him was a void and he was stuck inside of it, floating alone. That was until Mike and Abby made their way into the house, announcing their presence with a loud sigh.

“Micheal you okay?” Mike looked at how jittery Micheal was, his eyes looking everywhere but at the two. “I’m fine. Just.. not feeling the best, I guess.” Micheal felt like he should be happier, Mike was letting him live her rent free. This was embarrassing, living with someone who apparently hated you while your memories were distorted. Micheal snapped out of his thoughts after hearing Mike invite him to do something, but he was completely ignoring him, stuck in his thoughts. “You can join if you want.” “Wh-what? Sorry I-..” Micheal stuttered out a response, looking between the two who were holding different board games.

“Oh. Yeah I’ll join.” Micheal nodded, helping set up whatever game it was without paying attention fully.

Almost four matches in Micheal had began feeling better, a smile began hurting his cheeks like his face muscles didn’t recognize the action. “Mike you suck at this.” Micheal grinned, looking at Mike who was both farthest back on the board and brokest. “Don’t get cocky.” Mike pointed his finger accusingly, responding with a smile. “I’ll do whatever I want.” “Like manage to run into a cabinet?” Abby replied not really thinking while she was throwing dice.

“Oh-I.. yeah.” Micheal felt his cheeks warm up and nodded, a little giggle escaping him. “I guess that’s one thing.” Abby smiled at him, clearly not knowing what her words truly do. “You seem happier. Maybe that cabinet made you feel better.” Micheal sat there in silence, mouth opening and closing as he tried to respond before just nodding and replying with a soft “Yeah, I am happier.”
