In a clearing, a young man with black hair and frightening eyes sat, leaning against a ground dragon. He held a doll that resembled him, but it had more decent clothing, looking like that of a minor noble. This young man wore a black t-shirt and pants, brown shoes, and had some bandages on his right hand fingers. This young man was Subaru, and he was finishing sewing the doll. The wind blew gently, the trees danced, and the sun began to set. Subaru smiled, feeling the light breeze. He looked at the doll and handed it to his dragon.
Subaru: Here, Patrasche, for when I'm not around you. Now you have a mini-me to keep you company. - Subaru said, handing the doll to Patrasche, who made a happy grunt and took the doll. - Man, what a peaceful day. No Emilia, no Ram nagging me, no Roswaal bothering me, and no paranoid Rem thinking I'm a bishop... I missed this kind of peace, and you? - Subaru turned to his dragon, who also made a calm sound, enjoying the atmosphere. - Well, it's getting late. We should head back, or Beako will get worried. - Subaru said as he stood up, and Patrasche did the same.
Without delay, he mounted Patrasche, and soon both went to the mansion, not quickly, but calmly, savoring the moment, the wind hitting his face. Subaru began to think about everything he had been through, his arrival, his adventures, his deaths, his pains, and his frustrations. Emilia still hadn't answered his question, but to be honest, even he had forgotten to confess his feelings. After so many things, he became more focused on other matters, especially after Priscilla's death. He remembered her telling him that he should be more selfish... and he remembered what happened with Al... he didn't want to have to kill him... his mind wandered a bit remembering what happened, but he decided to ignore it for now. He couldn't have thoughts of that level again, he promised Priscilla and Al that he would stop belittling himself; those were their last requests, and he would respect that last request. After a while, they arrived at the mansion. Subaru left Patrasche in the stable, he petted his companion, and then he entered the mansion. When he entered, he was greeted by Meili and Beatrice, only the two of them. Why? Simple, Garfiel and Otto were busy with their relationships. Not that he thought it was bad, quite the opposite, he was happy for his friends, but on the other hand, he wasn't so lucky with that. Rem couldn't remember him and still suspected him, this was worsened by Ram's provocations, something Subaru now hated, seeing it as a joke. Petra had resigned from the mansion and went to pursue her dream of being a tailor. He remembered that both he and Frederica cried with happiness when they saw her leave. The mansion was very quiet without her, and the same maid was having a date with Otto. He laughed remembering when Otto and Frederica used to come to him asking for advice. Garfiel did the same. Subaru soon went to the kitchen to cook something for himself and his little ones. He took some eggs, meat, and some rice. He cooked while Meili and Beatrice talked. Subaru hummed while cooking, but then he felt someone watching him from behind. He turned and saw a person with blond hair; it was Spica, one of the Gula who had lost her memory. Subaru still suspected her because he didn't fully believe she had lost her memory. She watched him and then approached. Meili and Beatrice were still very wary of her but accepted her being around. Subaru understood and soon cooked another dish for Spica. He continued to focus on the pots but then felt another person watching him. A sense of death was felt by him. Subaru sighed and turned.
Subaru: You know, it's rude to spy on people, isn't it? - Subaru said while staring at the blue-haired maid, who seemed irritated.
Rem: Just seeing if you'll show your true colors. These poor children would be completely defenseless if no one were here - Rem said in an aggressive tone. She stared at Subaru as if he were a monster.
Subaru: I've already told you, Rem, I'm not a cultist. The only cultists here are Spica and Meili, if you stretch it a bit - Subaru said, finishing arranging the plates. He then turned and handed the plates to the girls. He took his own and approached Rem - Hungry? - Subaru offered his plate to Rem, who simply looked and turned her back, saying nothing. Subaru, seeing this, just sighed - Another failed attempt.
Beatrice: Why do you still try, I would say? - Beatrice said, turning to Subaru. She didn't understand why her contractor kept trying so hard to rebuild a broken relationship.
Subaru: I... I just wanted us to get along again, at least...
Meili: But Dad, why? She already said she doesn't want anything with you. Just forget her, there are plenty of fish in the sea - Meili said, worried about her adoptive father, who smiled a little upon hearing her.
Spica: I wish they could get along again... I like Mother Rem.
Meili: Of course you like her, she favors you, but she's too annoying. I preferred her when she was a vegetable.
Subaru: Meili!!
Meili: What is it? She at least didn't talk so much shit.
Subaru: Meili Natsuki!! Where did you learn that vocabulary?!?!?!
Meili: Garfiel.
Subaru: He's going to hear a piece of my mind when he get to the mansion - Subaru spoke with a slight vein popping from his head, but he soon calmed down - But let's move past that, where's Schult? I haven't seen him at all.
Beatrice: Still in his room, I'd say... he hasn't left again - Beatrice spoke a little worried about the new addition to her small family. Subaru understood and quickly left the kitchen - I'll bring him something to eat.
Subaru walked down the hallway, only the sound of his footsteps could be heard. The mansion was very quiet. He walked for a bit and, to his misfortune, he found someone quite unwelcome, a maid with pink hair. He was going to ignore her and move on, but the maid didn't like that very much.
Ram: How rude, Barusu. Did you know you should greet your superiors? - Ram spoke with her classic tone of mockery. Subaru just sighed.
Subaru: Hello Ram, now if you'll excuse me, I'm busy - Subaru spoke in a dry tone and continued walking. Ram just snorted, slightly irritated.
Ram: Busy with what? You've been neglecting your duties as Emilia's knight and your duties as a butler. You've just been wasting money and food pointlessly, especially when it's gone because that boy doesn't eat - Ram spoke in a judgmental tone. Subaru stopped in his tracks.
Subaru: You know he lost practically everything. He needs help, and I owe Priscilla and Aldebaran. Schult is under my care and I won't leave him alone.
Ram: He owns his own lands, he can take care of himself.
Subaru: It's not about knowing how to take care of himself, Ram. It's about being alone. He's still a child. It doesn't matter if he's responsible and mature. Schult is still a child. A child who lost the only family he had. And you should know better than anyone that in moments like these, we can't leave him alone - Subaru spoke in an irritated tone. He soon continued walking.
Ram: And what can you do? It's not like you have the terrible experience of losing everything. How do you intend to comfort him without understanding that pain? - Ram spoke in a more venomous tone. Subaru didn't slow his pace and replied without looking at her.
Subaru: If you think that way, then you really don't know me, Ram... I guess I expected too much from you - Subaru spoke, disappearing down the corridor, leaving Ram completely irritated.
Subaru continued walking until he finally reached his room. He knocked on the door a few times, but no one answered. He then entered, and there was Schult, his pink hair being the only thing visible outside the blanket he kept over his entire body. Subaru approached him calmly.
Subaru: Hey champ, I brought you something to eat - Subaru spoke, approaching the bed. He placed the plate on the desk while sitting on the bed - They told me you didn't leave your room again today, too shy? - Subaru spoke in a playful tone. Schult, hearing him, showed a bit of his face.
Schult: I... just didn't want to go out. I... I don't know how to face people... I must be a disappointment to her, right? - said the little butler, sitting on the bed. He was wearing a black sweater and white pants, a gift from Subaru - She was confident and always knew what to say... I, on the other hand, get flustered trying to give a simple order... I don't know why she entrusted her lands to me... - Schult spoke in a depressed tone, truly believing he was disappointing his lady.
Subaru: Schult... you are learning to be a leader. You won't be that amazing right on your first try.
Schult: She could do it.
Subaru: But you can't. Neither can I, nor Al. None of us could do something perfectly on the first try. Of course, there are people like Prisca who are good on their first try, but we need to try and fail, and she knew that. She saw that in you and in me. We can both fail, but we can always try again and improve - Subaru spoke while stroking Schult's hair, the boy liked the feeling of affection - She would be proud to see you trying, Schult. You are someone who tries hard, and that's what Prisca liked about you. You always had a bright future - the Japanese man spoke in an affectionate tone. Schult moved closer to Subaru and leaned against him.
Schult: Thank you... for taking care of me... I still don't feel ready to rule.
Subaru: It's okay, Schult. I'll help you. After all, besides owing Prisca, I would feel bad leaving a child with so much emotional burden on his shoulders.
Schult: You... are truly a kind person, Subaru... thank you - Schult spoke, hugging Subaru, who returned the hug.
Subaru: You don't need to thank me. I just do what I think is right. Now eat something, we don't want Mr. Barielle to get weak, do we? - Subaru spoke with a smile. Schult just puffed out his cheeks, slightly annoyed.
Schult: I'm not Barielle, I'm Schult! I love my mother, but I hate that name just as much as she does!! - Schult spoke, waving his arms while Subaru laughed a little.
Subaru: Right, right, sorry... Benedict.
Schult: Now that's more like it.
Subaru laughed at Schult's quick change of mood. Soon, the boy ate his dinner. Subaru just watched him. After finishing, Schult thanked him, and Subaru left the room. He walked down the corridor again until he reached a door. It was Emilia's room. Subaru decided to knock. He waited a bit, and soon the half-elf with silver hair opened the door. She was wearing more casual clothes. When she saw Subaru, a small smile appeared.
Emilia: Subaru, do you need something? - she asked in a calm and sweet voice. Subaru smiled a little, but before he could speak, someone else appeared... or rather, a cat.
Puck: What is it, Subaru? Did you come to bother my daughter with another date request? You know she's quite busy, right? That she needs to study and can't waste time on dates - Puck spoke like a strict father. Subaru just rolled his eyes.
Emilia: Puck!! Subaru definitely came to call me for a good reason.
Subaru: I was just returning from the room. I took something for Schult to eat. Unfortunately, I haven't eaten yet, so I decided to make something for myself. So I decided to ask if you've already had dinner. If you want something, I can make it for you - Subaru spoke in a calm tone. He wasn't making invitations or anything like that. He was just trying to be polite at this point.
Emilia: Thank you, Subaru, but I've already eaten. But I'm grateful for the offer - Emilia thanked him with a sweet smile. Puck, on the other hand, seemed a little bothered.
Subaru: I understand. Well, in that case, I'll get something for myself - Subaru spoke, walking away, but he looked at Emilia once more - By the way, I'll be leaving tomorrow. I'm going to visit Wilhelm and see how Crusch is. I'll spend some time there.
Emilia: Oh, of course. Have fun. But out of curiosity, how long will you be staying there?
Subaru: I can't say. Maybe a month or more at most. I need a vacation. I need some time for myself - without saying anything else, Subaru continued on his way.
When he arrived back in the kitchen, Subaru prepared something for himself, and after eating, he went to his room. Upon arriving, he saw Schult, Meili, and Beatrice sleeping together. He smiled seeing that. He ended up sitting at his desk and picked up a black-covered notebook. He opened it, and inside were drawings. He began to flip through the pages. The first pages had very... strange drawings. They were very graphic drawings: some piles of faceless bodies, giant rabbits feeding on corpses, a faceless hanged body, a dismembered one, or falling from an abyss, another being tortured by a monster with only one horn and blue fur. In summary, the drawings were traumas, not specific ones; they were exaggerated, with a lot of blood and disproportionate bodies. But this surprisingly calmed the young man with malicious eyes. Not only that, but he also put negative thoughts there. One drawing was of a faceless man trying to chase a snowflake. Another showed him talking to a statue of a beautiful woman who looked at him with disgust. A drawing of the faceless man holding the sun as it went out, and a drawing of him embracing a star that went out in his arms. So many traumas drawn, like a beautiful picture. It was Subaru's way of venting; it was healthier than drinking, at least. He picked up a pencil and began to draw. His concentration was impeccable, and the lines were drawn at a calm and tranquil pace. After a few hours, Subaru finished his drawing... it was the faceless man surrounded by 3 cherubs, two on his shoulders and one on his lap, whom he was caring for a wounded wing.

Subaru was now riding Patrasche, with Meili and Schult beside him. Beatrice was busy and couldn't come along. After a long journey, Subaru arrived in the Karsten lands. He passed through the village, greeted them, and reached the mansion. Upon arrival, he dismounted Patrasche with the children. A servant took Patrasche to the stables while Subaru went to the door. He knocked, and it was opened by a rather effeminate cat-boy wearing a blue dress, who looked surprised to see Subaru.
Subaru: Hello Felix, it's been a while, hasn't it? - Subaru said with a smile.
Felix: Subaru? What are you doing here?
Subaru: I came to visit you all. Didn't Crusch mention my arrival? I sent a letter - Subaru said, recalling having sent a letter. Felix looked at him in surprise, then remembered something.
Felix: No... I think she forgot, haha - Felix said, laughing a little, but he remembered Crusch smiling at a letter, and also remembered her standing by the window, as if counting the days. - How about coming in? - Felix said, making space for Subaru, who entered with Schult and Meili. - Hey.....isn't that Priscilla's boy?
Subaru: Yes, Schult is under my care. Don't worry, he's very polite and won't cause trouble like Meili.
Felix: Right..... well, Crusch-Sama is in her office with old Wil. Do you remember the way?
Subaru nodded. He walked a bit through the mansion, greeting everyone. It wasn't long before Subaru reached Crusch's office. He was about to knock, but instead, he opened the door and shouted "Surprise!" Wilhelm and Crusch were surprised by his arrival, but soon smiled. Wilhelm was the first to approach the Japanese man.
Wilhelm: Subaru-Dono - Wilhelm hugged his adopted grandson, who returned the gesture. - How have you been?
Subaru: Well, things have been quite calm at the mansion. How about you?
Wilhelm: I've been well. Reinhard visited me last week. Thank you for helping this old man reconcile with his grandson - Wilhelm said in a calm and animated tone. Subaru smiled, listening.
Subaru: I'm glad to hear that, Wil. I hope you can get along with your son too - Subaru said, placing a hand on his shoulder. Then his gaze shifted to Crusch. - Don't think I've forgotten you, Duchess - Subaru said as he approached Crusch, who smiled and stood up, leaning on a cane.
Crusch: It's good to see you in good health, Subaru - Crusch said, hugging Subaru, who returned the gesture with great affection.
Subaru: It's good to see you in good health too.... or almost - Subaru said, noticing Crusch's leg was still bad. She also looked but then laughed.
Crusch: Well, one leg is better than no life, isn't it?
Subaru: Looking at it that way, indeed - Subaru said with a slight laugh. Crusch moved away a bit.
Crusch: Please sit down. Would you like some tea? Something to eat? Perhaps some sweets for our young guests - Crusch said, looking at Subaru's two companions.
Meili: Perhaps some cupcakes......and a sugar cube for her - Meili said, leaving Crusch a bit confused. But then, a small scorpion appeared from under her sleeve. - Shaula wants some sugar.
Crusch: In that case, Wilhelm could get al-
Wilhelm: Certainly, Miss - Wilhelm didn't wait for his lady to finish and immediately left the room to get the orders.
Subaru: Why don't you go help poor old Wil? He's already old - Subaru said, looking at Schult and Meili, who agreed and followed him.
Crusch: Felix, why don't you go help too? I'll keep an eye on the children; after all, they might get lost - Crusch ordered Felix, who agreed somewhat reluctantly to leave his lady alone. - Tell me, how has your relationship with Emilia and Rem been going?
Subaru: Straight to the point as always, aren't you? - Subaru said with a slight laugh. - Well......Rem still thinks I might be a cultist, or she just hates me, I don't know anymore. Now Emilia..... no progress. I think..... it wouldn't work out anyway. She's too focused on her studies, and I'm happy for her..... I think I'm being too selfish wanting attention. I should let her study, after all, the selection is nearing its end, and she's trying..... But even if it all ends.... I doubt Puck would let me be anything to Emilia..... I'm just tired, Crusch. I just want to rest. My duties as a knight, as a servant, as a hero, and now practically as Meili and Schult's father....... and being a hero....... I just wish I could have a day without being any of that...... Sorry, I spoke too much - Subaru said, letting out a long sigh. Crusch, seeing this, placed her hand on his, gaining a surprised look from Subaru.
Crusch: You don't need to apologize, Subaru. It's normal for someone like you to be tired. After all, ever since you arrived in Lugnica, you've been fighting so hard for everyone. I imagine you must be tired. Because after the incident with Priscilla's ex-knight, I don't judge that you're tired and stressed..... I myself was quite worried and stressed when I heard you were sealed, and when old Wil almost died - Crusch said, squeezing her friend's hand a little. He smiled upon hearing this.
Subaru: Oh, so I made the great Crusch Karsten worried? I even feel loved here - Subaru said with a smile. Crusch laughed a little.
Crusch: You made everyone worried, but I won't deny that I felt powerless for not being able to help you - Crusch said, remembering how useless she felt for not being able to help Subaru because she was still sick. Subaru, seeing this, squeezed Crusch's hand.
Subaru: I'm sorry...... it was my fault you were poisoned by Capella...... If I hadn't taken you, only I would have been in trouble there.
Crusch: That wasn't your fault. I knew the risks..... Besides, you saved me from that illness.
Subaru: For you to suffer after-effects anyway...... - Subaru said, looking away.
Crusch: Subaru, look at me - Crusch said, placing her hand on Subaru's face, making him look at her. - You did everything you could. I never asked you to help me, and yet you saved me. You fought for me. You fought a battle that wasn't yours. A bad leg and deteriorating health are less worse than losing a life. I don't blame you. In fact, all I have is the purest gratitude for you..... and the purest respect - Crusch spoke with affection in her voice. Her eyes showed her gratitude and respect, and even..... something more. Subaru, hearing this, felt his heart skip a beat. He was surprised by this, as it had been a long time since he had felt something like this. He tried to look away, but Crusch didn't let him. - Don't look away when you're talking to someone, Subaru. That's rude, you know? - Crusch said with a small smile, and Subaru laughed a little.
Subaru: It's just hard to look at so much beauty. If I don't look away, I might become hypnotized, you know? - Subaru said in a more romantic tone. Crusch, hearing this, blushed slightly but then laughed a little.
Crusch: You know how to use words, Subaru. You better be careful, or you might end up taking my heart.
Subaru: Strange..... I thought I would have already captured you with my charm - Subaru said with a smile while holding Crusch's hand that was on his face.
Crusch: I'm not that easy, Subaru. You'll have to try harder than your charm - Crusch said, giving Subaru a challenging smile, which he seemed to accept.
Subaru: Well, let's see how much you can resist my charms - Subaru said with an equally challenging smile. They stared at each other, but then both laughed at their silly challenge.
After a while, Wilhelm arrived with the tea. Subaru and Crusch released their hands before being seen. The rest of the afternoon was very peaceful, with Subaru talking a lot with Wilhelm and sometimes Felix, who seemed a bit hostile towards the young man with the malicious eyes. He also ended up playing with Schult and Meili and, of course, always talking with Crusch. They seemed very close that day. Subaru began to think that it had been a long time since he had had so much fun. Perhaps these breaks would be good.

After a long day, Subaru was in the garden drawing in his notebook. The art for the day wasn't a trauma this time; it was ironically the faceless man sitting at a table with tea, surrounded by white pigeons. Subaru stopped drawing and looked at the sky, which was darkening, making it possible to see a bit of the moon. The young Natsuki smiled, thinking about how fun the day had been. It had been a while since he had only talked about trivial and unimportant things.
Subaru: It's good to be able to act like a normal person, without responsibility, without duties, just to live a day without stress..... but I wonder why Felix seems angry with me? - Subaru spoke to himself, he didn't understand Felix's hostility, but his thoughts were soon interrupted.
Crusch: Felix must just be in a bad mood today, don't worry, maybe he'll recover later - Crusch said as she approached Subaru. He was slightly surprised to see her, as she was wearing the same dress from that day, a black, slightly transparent dress that almost revealed her underwear, a kind of pink cloak covering her shoulders, and her hair loose. It was a beautiful and nostalgic appearance for the Japanese man, who blushed slightly.
Subaru: Crusch? What are you doing out here?
Crusch: I was looking for you, would you like to have a drink? - Crusch asked with a small smile, but then she averted her gaze - I mean, at least accompany me, since I know you don't drink and-
Subaru: I accept, I think I could drink a little..... but only because you invited me and I would find it impolite to refuse your request this time - Subaru said, standing up and closing his notebook.
Crusch: GREAT!!!Uh huh!!!!......great, come with me then - Crusch immediately turned around, and Subaru followed her.
They both walked for a while to Crusch's chambers, where she had set up a table and two chairs on her balcony. Seeing this, Subaru couldn't help but smile, as it reminded him of the first time they had a more relaxed conversation after so many failed loops. For a brief moment, Subaru's mind drifted to his past deaths, whether it was Crusch denying his request for help, Rem abandoning him, or even the massacre of the village, but he just pushed those memories away. Upon reaching her table, Crusch sat down and signaled Subaru to do the same, which he did. With both at the table, Crusch distributed the drinks, and Subaru, for the first time, decided to have a glass. Crusch stared at him for a few seconds, eager for his response.
Subaru: Not bad, but I don't know if I'd make a habit of drinking like you, Crusch - Subaru said, not disliking the taste of the drink. Crusch just smiled upon hearing this.
Crusch: I understand, not everyone develops this taste for drink, but I see that your taste is for drawing, isn't it? - Crusch said, remembering seeing Subaru's notebook out of the corner of her eye. He was slightly surprised by this.
Subaru: You saw my drawings?
Crusch: Not exactly, I just saw you drawing, but I won't deny it caught my attention. May I see? - Crusch asked curiously to her friend. He was hesitant, but decided to show her. When Crusch saw the first drawings, she was surprised by how graphic they were. She then looked at Subaru with concern - Subaru, what are these drawings?
Subaru: Nothing much, just some nightmares - Subaru said with a forced smile, but Crusch could sense the wind changing around him, not indicating that he was lying, but rather that he wasn't telling everything.
Crusch: Subaru, if you don't wish to talk about it, then I won't pressure you, but know that I am here to listen. After all, we all need someone, don't we? - Crusch said with a smile as she continued to look at the drawings, until she noticed the most obvious pattern: the man never had a face, but he had the same hairstyle as Subaru - The drawings are beautiful, I liked this last one with the pigeons around, but could you tell me why he lacks a face?
Subaru: Well, I just find it difficult to draw faces, so I decide to skip that part - Subaru said, taking a sip of his drink to try to disguise his lie, but he noticed Crusch staring at him. He simply placed his glass on the table and sighed - I just hate my face, okay?........I don't have enough strength to look at myself without wanting to vomit - Subaru said, averting his gaze. Crusch, hearing this, held his hand, gaining the Japanese man's attention.
Crusch: Subaru, why do you say that? Your face is beautiful, I don't understand why you would hate to see it - Crusch said in a affectionate tone. Subaru blushed a little upon hearing this.
Subaru: I'm not that beautiful, at least not as beautiful as you, dear duchess - Subaru said, trying to return the compliment. Crusch smiled upon hearing this.
Crusch: Thank you, Subaru, but please don't hate yourself. There are people who like you, and I am one of them - Crusch said while holding Subaru's hand. He laughed a little.
Subaru: You have terrible taste in men, you know?
Crusch: I must disagree with that.
They continued talking and laughing, and of course, drinking, quite a lot actually. They drank for many hours. Crusch was starting to get a little flushed, while Subaru seemed more sober, but not entirely. The Valkyrie was surprised that the Japanese man was so resistant to alcohol, but she couldn't stop now; it would be impolite to leave poor Natsuki alone like this. She needed to start a conversation, anything, she needed to keep her mind functioning.
Crusch: So.... could you tell me what you saw in Emilia? - Crusch asked and then mentally slapped herself. Of all the things to ask, she asked that!
Subaru: Well.... when I arrived in Lugnica, she was the first person who helped me, along with Reinhard. Besides being very beautiful and kind, she gave me a place to sleep and even helped me at certain times....... Of course, she wasn't perfect, we argued, we disagreed, after all, nothing is perfect. But I don't think this relationship will ever work out. She has a dream, a dream bigger than me and what I feel, so I think I should give up. It would be better for her and for me - Subaru said, taking another sip. Crusch looked into his eyes and saw a certain sadness. She felt a little bad for asking, but then an idea came to her.
Crusch: I also had someone once, but unfortunately, I lost him..... due to a mysterious illness. Fourier was his name. He..... was someone I loved. You two are quite similar, always optimistic, always looking forward, and always seeing the best in people. You would get along well....... I wish I had had the chance to see him one more time and answer his question.
Subaru: What question?
Crusch: If I would accept to be his wife........ his last words were if I would accept to marry him - Crusch said while looking at the table, memories of Fourier passed through her mind, tears fell from her eyes. Subaru, seeing this, was surprised, as it was the first time he had seen Crusch cry. He immediately got up from his chair and hugged her, resting his head on her chest. The duchess was surprised but soon accepted the gesture of comfort. She laid her face against Subaru's chest, letting his shirt absorb her tears.
They hugged for a few minutes until Subaru released her and wiped her tears. He was about to return to his seat, but Crusch held his hand. She stood up and approached Subaru. He stood still as if waiting for something. Crusch moved closer, and they were only centimeters apart, their chests touching. Their eyes met deeply, as if they were seeing each other's souls, and to them, it was beautiful. They didn't know if it was the drink or the fact that they had talked for hours, but Crusch leaned in and kissed Subaru. And instead of protesting, Subaru pulled Crusch closer. He began to invade Crusch's mouth with his tongue, which did not try to resist. Both let themselves be carried away by the kiss. Subaru ended up lifting Crusch a little and placing her on the table. He continued to attack Crusch with his tongue while she held Subaru's neck, not wanting him to stop. After a few exchanges of kisses, Subaru and Crusch separated their lips, a thin line of saliva visible between them. Both were panting, but then Subaru licked Crusch's neck a little, making her shiver. He then bit Crusch's neck, making her whimper a little. Subaru continued to mark Crusch for a moment, until Subaru placed his hand on the lower part of Crusch's dress. She looked at him in surprise but didn't mind. Subaru cupped Crusch's breast, making her let out a soft moan. While holding Crusch's breast with one hand, with the other he held the duchess's leg and pulled her closer to him, then kissed her again. Not as long as the first, but a few light and quick kisses. During one of these pauses, Crusch approached Subaru's ear and whispered.
Crusch: You know.... we can go far beyond just touches and a few kisses, Subaru~ - Crusch said in a provocative manner. Subaru felt a shiver down his spine and a small smile appeared on his face. He then lifted Crusch again and carried her to the bed, where he gently laid her down and positioned himself over her. Crusch smiled as her face turned red, whether from the drink or the heat of the moment, she didn't know - I didn't know you were so forward, Subaru~
Subaru: Blame the drink or your beauty, one of them got me really excited and bold – Subaru said, unbuttoning his shirt and then taking it off, showing his toned physique. Two scars were visible. Crusch looked at him in surprise but then ran her hands over Subaru's body. He soon began to lower Crusch's dress. She felt her heart beating rapidly. She was left in her underwear in front of Subaru. Seeing this, he felt blood rush to his head, but before doing anything, he looked at Crusch with a smile and kissed her again.
That night, Subaru didn't think about Emilia or Rem, or his traumas. All he thought about was the woman in front of him, that beautiful lady who, like him, had also suffered. In a lapse of memory, Subaru remembered everything Crusch had been through as well. Both had been wronged by the world, both had suffered horrors and lost people. But in that moment of comfort mixed with drink, they could forget their pains.

The sun was dawning over the Karsten lands. In his room, Crusch slept peacefully. A small ray of sunshine hit her eye, causing the valkyrie to wake up. She opened one eye, and strangely, she felt an incredible comfort. As her vision adjusted, she realized she wasn't alone in the bed; Subaru was sleeping beside her. She froze for a minute, wondering what he was doing there. But soon, memories of the previous night came back, and her face turned red with shame. Yet, she also started to smile. She rested her head on Subaru's chest, wanting to sleep a little longer and enjoy that comfort. But then she saw Subaru move and open his eyes. The young Natsuki was confused for a few seconds, but upon seeing Crusch, he understood.
Subaru: Good morning, Crusch-Tan~ - Subaru said with an affectionate smile, seemingly remembering the previous night well. - Are you okay? I think I might have been a bit too rough.
Crusch: Couldn't be better.....but I feel a slight numbness down there. I must say, I didn't expect you to be so brutal, not that I'm complaining, of course. - Crusch said with a smile, leaning against her newest beloved, who smiled back.
Subaru: Well, the drink gave me a boost. Sorry if I was too rough with you.
Crusch: Well, the spanking was actually quite good; at least I enjoyed it. But I'm probably all red back there, and you're not entirely unscathed either. - Crusch said, looking at the bite marks and lipstick on Subaru, then looking at herself. - Fortunately, my uniform covers everything, and you might need to wear a turtleneck today to hide that.
Subaru: Hide it? I'll show it all as a badge of honor. - Subaru said with a proud smile, but then Crusch pinched his cheek. - Ow!!!
Crusch: Don't even think about going out shirtless. There are many single maids around, and they wouldn't ignore a man like you. - Crusch said, looking at Subaru a bit irritably.
Subaru: Already having jealousy issues in our relationship that started a few hours ago? - Subaru said with a smile as Crusch pinched him again. She then stood up, and Subaru followed her.
Crusch: I'm just worried about you, nothing more. - Crusch said, walking to her closet and picking up her uniform. Subaru laughed at how Crusch tried to hide her jealousy. He stood up and went to Crusch, hugging her from behind. - Subaru, we're not going for round 2 yet, at least not in the morning. - Crusch said, laughing a little and turning her face to Subaru, who kissed her.
Subaru: I need a good morning kiss at least. And don't worry, even if 52 women confessed to me, I wouldn't trade you for anything. - Subaru said, letting go of Crusch and going to get his clothes. Crusch looked back and saw Subaru's back. She was surprised.
Crusch: Wow...... I think I might have overdone it a bit too. - Crusch said, looking at Subaru's back, which was completely scratched, and some even had dried blood. - I guess I should get my nails done later. - Crusch said, looking at her own nails. She should do something about it next time.
The couple soon got dressed, Subaru putting on his shirt and pants, and Crusch her uniform. They then walked to the kitchen to eat something. Crusch needed a little help due to being a bit weak in the legs. When they arrived at the kitchen, Subaru made coffee for both of them. While they drank coffee, they talked about the night. Crusch praised Subaru's stamina, and he said he didn't know he was so resilient. He even mentioned that he was somewhat sober while doing the act. He mentioned things Crusch had said, sounding like a pervert, causing her to cover her face in embarrassment. After a while, more people arrived in the kitchen: Wilhelm, Felix, Meili, and Schult. Subaru and Crusch greeted everyone, and they soon noticed that some of them looked a bit tired.
Subaru: What happened to you guys? You look like you didn't sleep well. - Subaru said curiously, until Meili approached.
Meili: You know, Schult and I were in the room next door, right? We heard everything.......everything. - Meili said, taking her father's coffee and drinking half of it. She then turned to Schult, and he also drank. Subaru and Crusch turned red.
Subaru: I.....I don't know what you're talking about.....
Meili: You know.......you know very well. - Meili then turned to Crusch and approached her, raising her hands. - Mommy, give me a lap, please. - she said in a dry tone. Crusch blushed slightly but soon picked up her new daughter. With Meili in her arms, she rested her head on her and fell asleep again.
Crusch: Well.....I guess our secret relationship ended very quickly.
Schult: With you screaming, I even thought Subaru was killing you with his rolling technique. - Schult said tiredly. He was almost falling asleep too until Wilhelm took the poor butler and let him sleep in his arms.
Wilhelm: I'll let both of them sleep a bit longer. - Wilhelm said, approaching Crusch and taking Meili from her. - We'll wait for the little ones to wake up so we can celebrate the birth of such a beautiful love. I'm happy for both of you. - Wilhelm said with a calm smile. He then turned and carried the tired little ones away.
Subaru: Well..... I guess we were quite loud, weren't we?
Crusch: Well, you were relentless.
Subaru: You asked me to go hard. - Subaru said with a smile, and Crusch chuckled a little. Felix, seeing this, just made a clearing-throat sound, gaining their attention.
Felix: Crusch-Sama, we have work to do today, so please don't spend too much time with Subaru. - Felix said in a somewhat hostile tone. He then turned his back and left the kitchen. Subaru and Crusch looked at each other in surprise.
Subaru: Is he in a bad mood?
Crusch: Perhaps. He has sensitive hearing, and if we were as loud as Meili and Schult said, then he must have had trouble sleeping too. - Crusch said, explaining what might have happened, and Subaru just agreed with her.

After finishing their coffee, both parted ways. Subaru went to talk with Wilhelm for a bit and help him, while Crusch took care of some matters. Upon arriving at her office, she saw some papers and immediately began dealing with them. Some were about payments made, reports, and accounts, while others were about broken contracts, dissolved alliances, and so on. Crusch still suffered due to her memory loss, but instead of worrying about it, she simply signed them. She no longer cared about it; after all, when she lost her memory, she was at a disadvantage, and even recovering it would make it difficult to regain all that renown. But she didn't care about that because now she was feeling like the happiest woman in the world. Felix picked up some papers and read them. He was saddened to see so many allies who could have helped her abandoning her, but when he looked at Crusch and saw her smile, he found it strange, but soon imagined the reason for it.
Felix: Crusch-Sama...... may I ask a question?
Crusch: Of course, Ferris, tell me - Crusch replied without taking her eyes off the papers.
Felix: Do you...... really intend to start a relationship with Subaru?
Crusch: Yes, I don't see why I shouldn't have a relationship with him. After all, Subaru is an incredible person - Crusch said with a smile while continuing to write.
Felix: I have reasons for you. He is too immature, not from a noble family, we don't even know where he comes from. For all we know, he could be an ex-convict or even a former member of the Witch Cult - Felix spoke in a venomous tone. Crusch, hearing this, seemed bothered - Besides, he has no political power, let alone the strength to protect you. I don't think he's a good suitor.
Crusch: Valid points..... unless, Subaru has evolved over the years. He has grown not only as a person but as a hero. What he has done, I've never seen a noble or even knights do before. As for where he came from or his background, does that matter now? If he was an ex-convict, I believe he has done more than double to redeem himself. Being a former member of the cult wouldn't make sense since Subaru knew nothing about the cult when he first faced it. As for political power, he truly has none, but neither do I have the same power anymore. But strength, you know very well that I don't need protection. Even weakened like this, I can still handle myself. And we should also remember that Subaru managed to defeat Aldebaran alone and even killed him, and also killed Capella alone. Not to mention that, from what I heard from Felt, Subaru has been training with Reinhard and has improved a lot. So strength is not something he lacks - Crusch defended Subaru, listing his strengths and how he tried to improve. Felix looked at his lady, not seeming convinced.
Felix: He still remains impulsive. He could put you in danger.
Crusch: Put me in danger, or would I put him in danger? After all, we both attract trouble - Crusch said with a smile, remembering how unlucky she was, just like Subaru. Felix, seeing his lady smile, felt a pang in his chest.
Felix: ......He is not Fourier.
Crusch: ......What? - Crusch finally said, glancing at Felix, who was staring at the paper in his hand.
Felix: He is not Fourier, and he will not be Fourier, no matter how similar he is.
Crusch: Felix, I recommend you watch what you say - Crusch said, putting down her pen and finally facing Felix completely.
Felix: I know you want to see Fourier again. I understand, I miss him too, but Subaru is not him. They may have some similarities here and there, but he is not Fourier - Felix said, looking at Crusch, who seemed to be getting annoyed - Don't trust Subaru just because he reminds you of your former beloved. After all, he might just be using you as an excuse to get over Em-
Crusch: Enough, Felix!!!!!! - Crusch said, slamming the table, startling the feline a little. Subaru is not that kind of man, and don't talk about him as if I'm just looking for a way to remember Fourier!!! If I love Subaru, it's because of who he is. Are he and Fourier the same? Yes, but Subaru is still unique. I may have felt comfortable because he reminded me of Fourier, but I soon realized that I love Subaru for being Subaru, and I know he loves me as Crusch - the valkyrie said, remembering the night with Subaru and how he said he loved her. But older memories returned to her, when Subaru visited her when she had no memories and was ill, and how he fought to save her.
Felix: Even so, I believe he might just be using you as an excuse. I believe if Emilia comes to him tomorrow and says she loves him, he will leave you - Felix said in a more hostile tone. Crusch finally lost her patience.
Crusch: Okay, what is your problem with him?!??!?!??! He has done so much for us, so why this hostility?!?!?! - Crusch asked as she stood up, her eyes gaining a certain glint of anger. Felix, seeing this, decided to look away - He saved me from that poison!!! He helped recover my memories!!! And he helped me in moments when, if memory serves me correctly, you did not!!!!!
Felix: What do you mean?!?!?! I've been by your side this whole time!!!!!!
Crusch: Telling me how I should be!!!!! When did you ever come to me and say that I didn't need to be "Duchess Karsten"!!!!!! Never!!!!! You always said how I was an impeccable leader, how I was someone grand, but you never asked what I wanted. Have you ever stopped to think about the stress I was going through?!?!?!?!?!
Felix: I just wanted you to go back to being who you were!!!!
Crusch: When I literally didn't remember my damn name!!!!!!! I was practically like a child. Imagine telling a child that suddenly she's a duchess, has lands to govern, and is in a race to seize the throne of an entire kingdom!!!!! I was definitely not okay with all the expectations!!!!!! - Crusch said, her tone getting louder, and Felix became speechless - So I'm sorry if I ended up falling in love with the only man who saw me only as Crusch!!! Not as the Duchess, and not as the Crusch without memories, just Crusch!!!! - she finished venting, Felix felt hurt by what he had said. Crusch just sighed, regaining her posture - I just don't understand, why this hostility towards my choice? You always supported me and always told me to be in a relationship with someone I truly love, so why are you acting like this now that I've found someone?!?!
Felix: It's just that I wanted to be the one to steal your heart...... - Felix said, his hostile tone now sadder. Crusch, hearing this, just sighed.
Crusch: Felix, we've talked about this. I can't reciprocate your feelings. I don't feel the same. You need to understand this. It's for the best for you.
Felix: It's not that easy, Crusch....
Crusch: Then let me help with that. I don't love you, Felix - Crusch said in a dry tone. She then walked past Felix and went to the door, while the poor knight shed a few tears.
Felix: You really know how to be harsh with your words, don't you?
Crusch: You forced me to it. I tried to be kinder, but you don't listen to me....... - Crusch left the room without delay, leaving Felix with his own thoughts.
Upon leaving the office, Crusch walked through the corridors of her mansion, feeling bothered by what Felix had told her. She just ignored it and continued walking. She asked some maids where Subaru was. They said he was in the gardens. Crusch soon went to the garden. When she arrived, she saw Subaru sitting on a bench with his notebook in hand. She slowly approached him, and when she got close, she hugged him from behind. Subaru was slightly startled and then turned to Crusch.
Subaru: Hello, my dear, finished your work? - Subaru asked with a smile. Crusch just gave him a quick kiss on the lips and then sat beside him.
Crusch: It was just some papers, and you?
Subaru: Just drawing - Subaru said, showing his notebook. It was him with a winged woman. She had long hair and long wings. She looked like she was trying to hug the Japanese man - I'm still at the beginning, I need to finish the rest of the body and the background. I was thinking of something under the moonlight, what do you think? - Subaru said, turning to Crusch, who was smiling.
Crusch: It sounds great - she replied, resting her head on Subaru's shoulder.
The couple remained in this comfort for a long time until dusk. They returned to the mansion where they found a surprise: a cake celebrating Subaru and Crusch's relationship.

Two weeks passed, during which Subaru was living the best days possible, laughing with the children who accompanied him, sharing stories with his idol and mentor, and of course, spending days and nights with the woman he loved. Now Subaru was in front of the mansion gates with Schult and Meili, the mood was a bit melancholic.
Crusch: Do you really need to go back? I can find an excuse for you to stay a few more weeks - Crusch spoke in a sad tone. Subaru, seeing this, hugged her.
Subaru: Sorry Crusch, but Roswaal is sending me back, saying he has important news to show, or whatever the hell he wants - Subaru soon broke the hug and held Crusch's face with both hands - But I promise to come back, after all, I couldn't live without my woman - He said with a smile. Crusch smiled back and kissed him. They stayed like that for a few minutes until they fully separated.
Without delay, Subaru said goodbye to everyone and left with Meili and Schult. The journey was long, taking a few days, but they finally arrived at the mansion. Subaru, as usual, put Patrasche in her place while Meili and Schult entered the mansion. After arranging everything, he also entered the mansion where he was greeted by Beatrice, who hugged him.
Subaru: Hi Beako, did you miss me?
Beatrice: Obviously!!! I would say - the little spirit replied with a smile, Subaru laughed a little and put his little spirit on his shoulder - Subaru, we have a new member in the camp!! He's just like you.
Subaru: Like me? What do you mean?
Beatrice: He also came from another world - Beatrice spoke with a smile. Subaru's eyes widened in surprise upon hearing that.
Subaru: What do you mean?!?!?! Are you telling me there's another person who also fell into this world!!!
Beatrice: Betty would never lie to her contractor, I would say. Let's go to the living room, and you'll know it's true, I would say.
Hearing this, Subaru quickened his pace. When he reached the living room, he saw a man with long black hair, purple eyes, glowing purple horns, his left arm was purple, his clothes resembled traditional Japanese style, wearing a gray kimono with white pants and a black haori with red flower designs. Upon seeing that man, Subaru's eyes widened. The man, when he saw the Japanese man, was also surprised.
???: Baru?!?!?! - the man said, completely surprised, practically in shock.
Subaru: Yato... is that you? - Subaru asked in shock, but Yato soon went towards his friend, running.
Yato: SUBARU!!!!! - Yato ran towards his friend, jumped on him, hugging him and knocking him to the ground - Man, so this is where you were?!?!?!?!?! Damn brother!!!!! I missed you so much!!!! - Yato said with tears streaming from his eyes. Subaru, who was on the ground, hugged his friend back, also with tears in his eyes.
Subaru: Me too, you idiot!!!!!!
Subaru and Yato stayed like that for a few minutes until Yato finally let go of Subaru and they both stood up - How... how did you get here?
Yato: In the most cliché way possible for an isekai, my friend.
Subaru: But... the most cliché way is dying, and you wouldn't get hit by a car, after all, you were stuck in the hos...pi.......Yato...... - Little by little, Subaru realized how Yato ended up there. Yato, seeing that his friend understood, placed his hand on his shoulder.
Yato: We all knew this would happen sooner or later... I had little time left... but I'm glad I can see you again, my old friend - Yato spoke with a smile, and Subaru smiled back at him - So, I heard you're a hero here, should I start calling you Subaru-Sama? - Yato spoke in a playful tone, earning a laugh from Subaru.
Subaru: To you, it's Great Subaru-Sama - Subaru said sarcastically. Yato laughed a little - Besides, it's disrespectful to come and hug me like that, you should kneel and worship me.
Yato: Oh!! Forgive me, Your Holiness!!
Yato spoke in an exaggeratedly dramatic way and soon fell to his knees - Forgive this insolent commoner!!!!
Subaru: Hmm, let me think... if you agree to eat with me and speak highly of my food, I'll forgive you -
Subaru said with a smile. Yato raised his head with a smile.
Yato: Well shit, I'm going to die from poisoning.
Subaru: Go fuck yourself.
They both soon laughed and started walking towards the kitchen. On the way, they talked with everyone in the mansion. Everyone was surprised to see that Subaru and Yato were childhood friends. They talked and laughed. Subaru introduced Yato to Meili, Schult, Beatrice, and Spica, who soon started calling him uncle. He also explained everything to Yato about his adventures and how difficult it was. The new oni comforted his friend and soon told him that he arrived at that mansion a week ago. He appeared in the forest and soon found Rem, who was surprised to see a living "oni." He explained that he wasn't an Oni, or at least shouldn't be. Subaru found it funny that Yato went to that world as a demi-human, but he still said it seems his mana gate is wrong. Subaru was confused by this. He and Yato didn't have a functional mana gate, but he put that aside because Yato showed he was capable of using "magic," which should have been impossible, but he decided to ignore it for now. The important thing now was that his best friend was with him. They soon started talking about old stories they shared with "Subaru's brats," as Yato would say.

Months passed. Subaru alternated between staying at the mansion for a few days and then visiting Crusch. He would stay there for almost a month before returning to the mansion only when summoned. During these months, the Royal Selection finally concluded, with Emilia emerging as the victor. A celebration was held, but ironically, it took place on April 1st, Subaru's birthday. He didn't mind being forgotten much; after all, it was Emilia's big day. Subaru stood in a more secluded corner, watching everyone else enjoy the party. Among the attendees were, of course, his group, and ironically, Felt and Reinhard, along with Liliana playing music, Mimi with Garfiel, Ricardo, Julius, and Anastasia. Petra also showed up and, ironically, brought a gift for Subaru – a small scarf. Subaru thanked her for the present. Yato also made something for Subaru and was with him, crafting a traditional knife for Subaru to truly cook with a good blade. Meili made a plush toy of Patrasche, and Schult made a gold ring that was for both him and Crusch. "When you propose to her, I'll already have everything ready," he said with a big smile. Beatrice made a mini cake for Subaru... which wasn't actually made by her, but by Frederica, though she wouldn't admit it. Their moment was quite peaceful compared to the party. Spica, who was at the party, was looking for Subaru. When she found him, she threw herself at him and hugged him tightly. Her gift was a rock with a face drawn on it. Its name was Wintom. At the party, the others celebrated and congratulated Emilia for winning the Royal Selection, but soon, a knock was heard at the door. Emilia went to see who it was. When she opened it, she saw Crusch accompanied by Wilhelm and Felix, the latter looking a bit down while Crusch had a wide smile.
Emilia: Hello Crusch! I was wondering when you'd show up. I thought for a minute you didn't see the invitation or were disappointed about losing the Royal Selection - Emilia said cheerfully upon seeing Crusch, happy that her friend wasn't angry with her.
Crusch: Hello Emilia, congratulations on your victory. And don't worry, I'm not resentful. But could you tell me where Subaru is? I brought his gift, and even Wilhelm brought something for him - Crusch said, looking around for Subaru. Emilia looked confused and glanced at the gifts in their hands.
Emilia: Eh? Gifts for Subaru? He'll be so happy! After all, he's done so much for us. I guess I should have found a gift for him - Emilia said, feeling a little guilty for not getting him a present.
Crusch: It's alright. I believe he must be enjoying the birthday party. It was a good idea, celebrating your coronation and Subaru's birthday at the same time. And I'm glad it's at the mansion because I would have hated to see all those palace people. Being among friends is more relaxing - Crusch said, entering the mansion with Wilhelm and Felix. Emilia looked at Crusch with confusion.
Emilia: Birthday? ...What birthday? - Emilia asked curiously. Crusch froze mid-step and turned to her friend, completely surprised.
Crusch: What do you mean, "what birthday?" Today is April 1st, Subaru's birthday - Crusch said incredulously, unable to believe she had to explain the obvious. Emilia was shocked upon hearing this.
Emilia: Eh?!!??! I forgot!!! - Emilia yelled, realizing she had forgotten her knight's birthday. Crusch couldn't believe what she was hearing.
Crusch: What do you mean you forgot his birthday?!?!?! - The Duchess said in a low tone, trying not to attract the attention of others. Emilia heard this and scratched the back of her neck, a little embarrassed.
Emilia: I was so focused on the Royal Selection that I forgot. But it's okay, I'll apologize later and throw a special party for Subaru. I know he'll like it - Emilia said, believing her own words. After all, she always had chances with Subaru; she always knew she'd have time for him eventually, as he would always be waiting for her. Crusch just sighed, annoyed.
Crusch: I'm going to look for Subaru - Crusch said as she began her search with Wilhelm. Felix decided to stay at the celebration. Crusch searched the mansion for Subaru for a while, which didn't take long as she heard singing. When she approached, she found Subaru with Yato and the children singing "Happy Birthday" to him, with a small cake and a candle. Crusch smiled a little upon seeing this and approached the small group, who were clapping - Happy birthday, Subaru.
Subaru: Crusch?! Old Man Wilhelm?! What are you doing here? - Subaru asked curiously, but Crusch soon sat beside him and handed him his gift.
Crusch: Celebrating your birthday, you idiot, did you think I'd forget? - Crusch commented with a smile, Subaru looked at her in surprise, but then he smiled and kissed Crusch's cheek.
Subaru: Thank you, Crusch.
Crusch: Just doing my duty as your future wife, now open your present, I put a lot of effort into this one - Crusch spoke and then watched Subaru open the present. When he opened it and saw the contents, Subaru was confused.
Subaru: Is this a doll? - Subaru picked up the doll and saw how it resembled a Russian nesting doll, but then he noticed that the doll had green hair, reminding him of Crusch herself. He then tried to open it to see if there was another doll inside, and yes, there was another doll, quite small actually, it even looked like a newborn. - Crusch... what does this mean? - Subaru looked at Crusch confused, but his mind began to think of something, but it would be impossible, right? Or... maybe it wasn't so impossible, because Crusch took his hand and placed it against her stomach. - Crusch... are you?
Crusch: Happy birthday, Subaru - Crusch said with a smile. Subaru couldn't hold back his tears and soon stood up, he picked Crusch up in his arms and began to spin her around.
Subaru: I'm going to be a father!!!!! This is incredible!!!!!
Meili: Finally!!!!! I'm going to have a little brother!!!!!
Schult: We're going to have another one in the family!!!
Spica: Another brother!!!!
Beatrice/Yato: Another nephew!!!!!
Everyone celebrated this wonderful news from Crusch. Wilhelm then handed his gift to Subaru. It was a katana with a black scabbard, some green flowers, a black hilt with a square guard, and a silver blade. They celebrated happier than ever, until Yato had an idea. He went to Emilia's celebration, which was quiet, everyone talking normally. Yato soon approached Liliana and asked her to stop the music for a while. He picked up a glass and a spoon and tapped it against the glass, getting everyone's attention.
Yato: Good evening, dear guests. I believe few of you know me. Allow me to introduce myself more properly. My name is Yato Yoshimura, and I am also known as Subaru Natsuki's best friend, and no one will take that title from me. Otto and Garf, I'm watching you - Yato said, looking at the two companions. They both chuckled a bit at the joke. - Now that I've introduced myself, I'd like to give three congratulations. The first to our newest queen, congratulations Emilia on the throne - Yato said and everyone applauded Emilia, who looked a little embarrassed. - My second congratulations are to my best friend. Subaru, come here! - Yato approached Subaru and pulled him closer. Before he could say anything, Yato spoke first. - This incredible madman here, today is his day. Today we celebrate Subaru Natsuki's birthday, happy birthday, buddy!!!!! - Yato said, lifting Subaru as if he were a puppy. Hearing this, everyone was surprised, but then they applauded Subaru. Some apologized for forgetting, and others even thought of getting gifts for him right away to deliver, but Yato soon lowered Subaru and made his final announcement. - Now for my third congratulations!! Miss green, can you join us here? - Yato said, pointing to Crusch, who chuckled a bit but soon joined them. - Subaru, Crusch, my congratulations on your future son or daughter. I hope you will be the happiest couple in this world. A toast to the Natsuki family!!!!!!! - Yato raised his glass and everyone stared at it in surprise, but then the shock and surprise turned into cheers of joy and a new celebration began. Everyone celebrated the great news that had been delivered.
Emilia: Wh..at....... - Emilia listened in disbelief. This couldn't be real. Her knight was going to have a child with another woman? But what about the promise that he would wait for her? Or that he loved her? This made no sense. She wouldn't accept this without an explanation. Emilia was about to confront Subaru when Beatrice stepped in front of her.
Beatrice: I'd say it's better if you only approach him to congratulate him!! Because I don't want you to ruin my contractor's special day - Beatrice said in a serious tone. She wouldn't accept anything that could ruin this perfect day for her contractor.
Emilia: He owes me an explanation, Beako!!!! He promised to wait for my answer!!! And now, out of nowhere, I find out he's having a child with Crusch!!!!
Beatrice: First of all!! Only Subaru can call her that!!! Second, you should have thought better then. My contractor doesn't have years and years to wait for you, not to mention that the last adventures we had left him stressed, and as far as I know, you preferred to focus on your studies rather than on Subaru. He respected your choice, so you'd better respect his!!! Because if you really loved him, you would have done something to help him!!!! - Beatrice spoke, leaving Emilia speechless. By instinct, she looked at Crusch and Subaru and... she noticed how happy her knight was... that hurt more than any blade.
Emilia: This... this isn't fair....
Beatrice: It wasn't fair to leave my contractor without an answer either... but you didn't see me complaining, did you? - Beatrice spoke and then went to celebrate with Subaru and Crusch.
Emilia stared in shock. Had she really lost her knight? Rem also watched from the background. She felt her heart ache, but she didn't understand it. The night continued more lively than ever. Liliana played their best music for the couple to dance. Everyone wished a happy night to the new queen and the Natsuki couple.

9 months have passed since the end of the selection. In that time, Subaru left Emilia's camp along with Yato, Meili, Schult, and Beatrice. He went to live in the Barielle lands, helping Schult take care of his estates. The months were wonderful. Subaru and Crusch were living the best days possible, living like a family. In the first month of her pregnancy, Subaru proposed to Crusch, and as expected, she accepted. It was a beautiful wedding. On December 4th… it was a rainy day and also the big day. Subaru was in the mansion hallway waiting for news from Felix. His mind was racing, and he tapped his foot against the floor many, many times. The door in front of him opened, and Subaru immediately looked at the door and saw Felix coming out. He quickly stood up and went to him. Felix said nothing, only making space for Subaru to pass. Without delay, Subaru entered the room. He saw Crusch lying down with a baby in her arms. Her skin was pale, and she was cold. When she saw Subaru, a smile appeared on her face, and tears fell from her eyes.
Crusch: Subaru… look… our little and adorable… son — Crusch spoke with some difficulty due to the exhaustion of childbirth. Subaru slowly approached the bed of his beloved and now son — Here… hold him… — Crusch extended her son to Subaru, who held the boy with extreme care.
Subaru: Hey champ… it’s dad — Subaru spoke with a trembling voice, his eyes starting to well up. He couldn’t believe it; his heart leaped with joy seeing this, seeing his son. Crusch, seeing this, smiled, watching her husband hold their son. Subaru then sat on the bed, approaching Crusch. He adjusted her so she could sit up — What do you wish to name him, dear? I think it would be fair for you to name him since you did all the work.
Crusch: I was thinking… of Hansel… Hansel K Natsuki…
Subaru: Hansel K Natsuki… what a perfect name, my love — Subaru said, kissing his wife’s cheek — Rest a little, Crusch. When you wake up, Hansel and I will be waiting for you — Subaru spoke with a calm smile. Crusch simply took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She quickly fell asleep due to her exhaustion. Subaru looked at his wife as she slept peacefully and adjusted her on the bed. He then looked again at his son. He had black hair like him and eyes like his mother's. He stretched out his little arms, and Subaru offered him his index finger. Hansel held his finger, and a small smile formed — Hansel… I promise to protect you, both you and your mother… no one will take you from me — In that room, on that rainy day, Subaru made his promise. The sound of the raindrops was soothing. He looked at the windowpanes and saw them full of drops — I don’t usually like the rain, but I’m happy to know that every time I see rain, I’ll remember you, my dear son — Subaru said while playing with his son. But soon, he received visitors: Schult, Meili, and Beatrice. They loved Hansel.

Subaru and Crusch were sleeping peacefully until they felt someone climb onto the bed. Subaru was the first to open his eyes and saw his son, who had grown taller. He was wearing a black sweater and black pants.
Subaru: Huh?..... Need something, champ? - Subaru asked, rubbing his eyes.
Hansel: Dad, today's my birthday. Remember we're having visitors? - Hansel spoke in a very calm and polite tone, quite impressive for a boy who was turning 3 years old.
Subaru: I'd never forget the day you were born, champ. Don't worry, Mom and I will get ready soon, okay? - Subaru said as he kissed his son's forehead. The boy smiled and got off his father.
Subaru then turned and gently woke Crusch. She got up with her hair completely messy. They exchanged a quick kiss, then got up and did their routine, getting dressed in traditional Japanese-style clothing. Subaru wore a black sweater and black pants. Crusch wore a white long-sleeved shirt and a blue skirt. They soon went to find Hansel, who was waiting by the door. The K Natsuki's house was simple, not too big and not too small, but comfortable for them. It was in the style of a traditional Japanese house. Subaru and Crusch chuckled lightly as they saw Hansel excited to see the guests.
Crusch: Dear, you know they'll be a while, right? You didn't need to get ready so early either - Crusch said, seeing her son wearing a sort of mini-uniform, with his black hair slicked back like his father's.
Hansel: I need to be attentive, Mother. It would be impolite if I weren't here to greet the guests - Hansel replied politely. Crusch smiled as she picked up her son.
Crusch: Well, the guests would worry if they knew you hadn't had breakfast, so let's go eat - Crusch said, taking her son to the kitchen. Subaru went with them.
In the kitchen, they sat at the table, and soon Subaru prepared something for everyone: a simple breakfast with coffee, some pancakes, and hot chocolate. It was a cold day, after all. They ate breakfast, laughing and talking. Hansel said that now that he was 3, he could train with swords, but Crusch cut him off, saying it was still too dangerous for him to use a blade. Subaru agreed and said he would allow it when he was 10. Crusch agreed with some reservations. After some time, Subaru heard someone knocking on the door. He went to see and when he opened it, he saw Yato accompanied by a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. It was Sylphy. They had gotten married 2 years ago and even had a daughter who was 2 years younger than Hansel. The girl was very attached to young Natsuki, so when Sylphy put her down, she crawled to Hansel, who picked her up. After a while, Wilhelm arrived with Reinhard and Felt. With Felt was a girl her age, accompanying her. Subaru greeted them, then Garfiel and Mimi, Otto and Frederica, Rem and Ram, Emilia, S@#$_, and obviously, a very important person.... @#$+£¢€¥. Subaru smiled upon seeing her; after all, she was his retsiS. Everyone soon celebrated Hansel's birthday. An hour later, Subaru, Crusch, and Hansel decided to take a photo. Yato had made a camera with Subaru's help a year ago. It was a simple camera that didn't capture colors but worked well. Crusch held Hansel in her arms, and Subaru held his wife. Yato then took the picture and held it in his hands. Upon handing it to the couple, they smiled. The photo turned out perfect, even though it was black and white.

Crusch ran through the streets of the capital of Lugnica. Everything around her was destroyed: buildings, people screaming, kingdom knights being killed by completely strange humanoid creatures. Crusch ran with Hansel in her arms, but in front of her were Lugnica knights. They seemed scared, but before they could say anything, two strange beings killed those guards. Their bodies were gray, their heads round with a single hole that looked like a totally blue eye. They wore chainmail and pants that resembled armor, and carried swords. Crusch, upon seeing the humanoid beings, backed away and tried to run, but those things immediately followed her. However, before they could reach her, Subaru fell on top of one of them using his katana. He questioned the eye of one of these beings. In a quick movement, he turned and cut off the head of the other. He then went to Crusch and grabbed her hand.
Subaru: Let's go!!! - Subaru ran with Crusch, who looked at Hansel in her arms. He was bleeding a lot, his right eye was covered in blood, and his right arm seemed broken. He also had some glass shards in his left eye.
Hansel: Mommy......Daddy......I.....am sleepy..... - Hansel spoke, very tired, feeling his eyes grow heavy.
Crusch: Calm down, son!! We will help you!!! Hold on a little longer!!! Talk to mommy!!! Don't close your eyes!!!!! - Crusch spoke desperately as she ran with Subaru - Remember that glass flower?!?! The one you wanted your father to teach you to make?!?!
Hansel: I remember......it......was beautiful.... - Hansel weakly turned his head towards his father - Daddy......would you.....teach me.....to.....make it?
Subaru: Of course, Han!!! I promise that when we take care of you, I'll teach you to make it!!! Not just that, but any glass art!!! I give you my word!!!! - Subaru spoke with a small tear falling from his eye. He wasn't going to lose his son.
Hansel: Tha......nk you..... I.....will sleep a little.....wake me.....when we get home...... - Hansel spoke, unable to overcome his exhaustion. He faintly heard his parents' voices shouting his name, but he simply fell asleep, unable to hear anything else.

Hansel's eyes fluttered open, he was lying on the grass under the shade of a tree. He sat up, rubbing his eyes. He was taller now, his hair a little longer, reaching his nape and falling down. He wore a black sweater and pants of the same color, and had a cape and a trench coat beside him. Hansel now appeared to be 19 years old.
Hansel: This dream again? Man, I wonder why I always remember this day? - Hansel said, scratching the back of his neck. He soon stood up, grabbed his cape and trench coat - I should go home, Kasan and Tosan will kill me if I disappear for so long - said the Natsuki as he walked. He put his cape on his head and his trench coat over his shoulders, and then began to walk.
Hansel walked through a forest that was his backyard. It wasn't long before he arrived home, where, as expected, he found his mother and father. Hansel remained thoughtful about this dream, imagining it was probably the trauma of his near-death experience. He simply ignored it and continued his daily life.
