Work Text:
Jaron has been keeping herself busy these past couple months, after pulling pranks to everyone, she decided to do a new project, cookies!
She's always loved baking, it's been a good pass time for her. And what better than to mass produce something you enjoy? That's bound to work out for her.
So she did, she worked on a massive project, make so many cookies even the server couldn't handle it! She was right on that, it really couldn't handle it.
The lag was harsh, it hurt. Primarily her, obviously! She was the one closest to it, she was the one causing it!
It made her feel oddly disappointed, she could've made it more efficient and less painful. But, who cared anyway? It's not like anyone was on the server anyway.
She was wrong about that one. Since it was nearing the end of the season, she assumed no one would comment on it. But they have, and that sucked.
She couldn't just redo all this hard work just because she was hurting people. They could get over it. None of it mattered to her. All that mattered was her and her work.
She laid on the ground, the grass feeling so, so uncomfortable on her body. It felt so much more intense, maybe she should stop. Take it all down, maybe a break. But what would she even do?
Her purpose wasn't fulfilled yet, she had to finish this. She will finish this! No rules would stop her, nothing will.
So she continued through the pain she felt. Does if technically last longer since she 'slowed down time'? (Gosh, she hoped it didn't)
She was persistent, and that probably wasn't good for her, but no one was checking up on her. So who cares? Parker did perfectly fine with his melons. So why couldn't she?
She felt oddly jealous of his accomplishment, why couldn't she live up to it? He was much better than her, she wanted to prove to someone— anyone, that she too was good enough.
That saddened her, was she really that pathetic? She supposed she was.
She let the farm running, looking at her reflection from the water. She looked off, she felt off. Hollow, almost.
She was a machine, that was supposed to be a good thing! Though she didn't feel completed, making all these cookies wasn't fun or fulfilling, it was annoying.
She heard footsteps behind her and she tensed up. She was so stupid, she was going to get killed and she couldn't even try and defend herself.
"Jaron?"
She turned herself around, facing the individual who called her out.
"Pangi?"
She looked at the man across from her. What was he doing here? Wasn't he supposed to be at spawn?
"Hey man.." He grinned nervously, adjusting his glasses to cover his face more. "How's it going?" He asked, moving closer to her.
She stayed still, she was glad to have been seeing him. But why here?
"Good.." She answered, and she supposed it wasn't a complete lie. Her cookie farm was doing great! She on the other hand? Not quite.
"Yeah?" He grabbed her hand, causing her nervousness to increase. Why did he have to be here? Sure, she enjoyed his company, but this just felt embarrassing.
"Mhm." She looked away from him, his hands felt oddly nice.
"What's all this about?" He asked, guiding his view to the farm. She giggled, something she hadn't done in days.
"Just work." She answered, looking back at the farm as well. Hm, it did look oddly pretty from here.
"Is this what'd causing the servers lag?" He asked, pretty straightforward for him. Or maybe it wasn't, she couldn't tell anymore.
In all honesty, she wanted to lie. Maybe put the blame on someone else. But she couldn't, not to Pangi. That'd be rude, she isn't rude.
"Yes? Sorry, just a little project." She brushed it off. It was smaller, even if it's massive compared to the two.
"Little? Don't be silly." He chuckled. "How long has this been going for?"
"A few months."
"Months?" He seemed suprised, which Jaron could only nod at.
"You need a break man." He looked through his inventory, passing her an elytra and fireworks. (Ones she could've easily gotten out herself, but he was being nice. Plus, free fireworks! How could she resist that?)
"How about we watch the sunset? Just the two of us..?" He smiled nervously, Jaron looking at him the same.
"Y-Yeah. I'd love to."
With that, Pangi flew up and into the distance, Jaron following immediately.
He leads her to a nice set of trees. Planted by him perhaps? Well, no time for speculation.
He patted a spot next to him for her to sit down, and she listened. She scooted closer to him as he wrapped an arm around her. It felt nice to be this close to someone after a few months of self isolation.
The pain of the lag lessened throughout the moment. Sure, it wasn't entirely gone, but it felt much better.
"Thanks Pangi, really." She stated. Melting from his touch. This felt so right. So what if it was taking away from her farm? She really was enjoying this.
"No problem man." He leaned on her.
As the sun set, the two stayed there for a while, Pangi eventually falling asleep on Jaron. She chuckled at it.
"Goodnight Pangi."
And she too fell asleep to the sun set.
