Chapter Text
Sakuya hated liars.
Despite the fact that he himself is one, he hated having to lie. He hated being lied to. He hated being known as "The Liar". He hated lies. Honestly, he hated himself for lying.
Sakuya warned Mahiru so many times, yet he never listened. It was as if he didn't trust him. Mahiru fed him little white lies again and again, yet he kept a smile on his face and acted like everything was fine.
Mahiru refused to kill Sakuya, and he wasn't too sure why. Even after everything Sakuya told him, Mahiru still didn't want to kill him, and that was all because he saw through Sakuya's lies.
At the same time, he felt like he was going mad with the way he acted. They were lies, but he couldn't deny wanting to die by Mahiru's hand. He had an insane adrenaline rush back there, but ultimately, it just led to more problems.
Then Mahiru caught Sakuya back at school after he "disappeared". Mahiru had been all noble, telling Sakuya that he'd make things right and that he would stop stop Tsubaki. And he really meant everything he said.
God, and he couldn't get Mahiru out of his head either after that point.
Mahiru really cared about Sakuya despite everything he's done, and that was about enough to get him going.
Sakuya felt absolutely restless. He spent all day thinking of Mahiru. He spent all night thinking of Mahiru. No matter what he did, it was Mahiru, Mahiru, Mahiru. Sakuya could barely sleep, but when he did, he dreamt about Mahiru. And while he was awake in bed, it was just Mahiru.
Team Melancholy just let him watch Mahiru. Sure, they thought his obssessive streak was weird and creepy, but what did they know about Mahiru?
He was his friend.
His best friend.
23:29
Mahiru was asleep, and Sakuya knew that.
He just wanted to watch him a little.
Sakuya slipped out of the Team Melancholy base, down the elevator, got outside of the building, and walked down the street. He had been to Mahiru's house a dozen times, so finding his way there was an easy task.
It was already past curfew, but Sakuya couldn't have cared less. He just wanted to see Mahiru again. He didn't want to, but if he had to, he would just mess with the police's minds.
He continued walking. Down the road, past the street lights, across the signs, all the way until he was there. Mahiru lived in an apartment, and being a vampire, he could just jump up to his window with ease, but he had to be careful.
Sakuya looked around to see if anybody was looking at him. Nobody seemed to look in his direction or batted a singular eye at him, so he was in the clear.
He made one jump up to Mahiru's window. With a stroke of luck, the curtains were open, and there he was, lying in bed, resting. Sakuya's mouth quirked as he watched Mahiru snore and he looked closer.
Sakuya noticed his "cat", Kuro sleeping in his own little bed. He scoffed silently, since that kitten was basically the source of all of his problems right now. Sakuya pulled out his phone and opened his camera, cautiously tapping the screen and shaking, as one wrong move could out him.
It was a pretty dark outside, but he couldn't risk getting caught, so he disabled his flash. Sakuya positioned his phone, trying his best to get a good angle and snapped a picture. Opening his camera roll, he frowned.
"Blurry," he murmured. Sakuya turned his head to look at the street down below, a little paranoid somebody was watching him. He went back to looking at Mahiru and held his phone up again. "One more time."
His hands still shook, but he took a picture. And another one, just in case it was bad. Then a third picture, since third time's a charm in case that doesn't work out. And one more, because you can never have too much.
Sakuya put his phone down, still staring at Mahiru, examining him. His brown hair, messy from being in bed, his restful face and closed eyes, the way he was snuggled up in the blanket. The way Sakuya's heart ached for Mahiru sickened him, and it was like he was genuinely sick.
He looked at his camera roll and scrolled through his gallery. The first one was a little unfocused, but he kept it anyway. As Sakuya looked through the photos, he laughed.
He laughed a little too loud and saw Mahiru move in his bed from the corner of his eye.
Sakuya immediately ducked down, putting his back behind the wall and putting his hand against the mouth, whispering, "Crap!"
He breathed heavily and peered through the window a little. Mahiru didn't wake up, he was just tossing and turning in bed. He sighed and sank back down, staring at the pictures. He edited them and applied filters to make Mahiru more visible.
After he finished one photo, he got up and glanced back at Mahiru one last time and left to go back to the Team Melancholy base.
Sakuya crashed into bed and stared at the ceiling for a while, until finally getting his phone out, only to just stare at his Mahiru photos instead. Sakuya started editing the remaining photos to get a better view.
He had an album on his photo solely for Mahiru. Most of the pictures were from a when they were actually friends in high school, but lately, some of them had been from Sakuya's little hobby. He added the photos to the album and looked at it for a while.
Sakuya probably looked at it daily. He couldn't get enough of Mahiru. He laughed again as he scrolled past his gallery, remembering all the little moments with him that he would never be able to forget.
His eyes fluttered looking at his phone. He was tired. Sakuya turned off his phone and went back to staring at the ceiling.
For once, he actually got some sleep, thanks to the help of the thought of Mahiru.
