Work Text:

Dizzy, he felt strangely dizzy. The cause was unknown for he was too dazed to think as he remained laying on the ground unable to get up kind of think of it he couldn’t even open his eyes for he felt too dizziated.

“Sonic?”

Unsure who was calling Sonic kept silent though he nearly yelped feeling someone helping him up into a sitting position.

“Sonic, are you alright?”

Sonic’s ears flicked slightly, noticing that was a deeper voice and it seemed to be coming from right next to him. “Father?”

“Yes, it’s me.” The stranger confirmed, resting a hand on Sonic’s shoulder.

“But.. where are you?” Sonic wondered, turning his head around trying to find him.

“Sonic, you need to open your eyes.” Someone else stated, this one sounding more feminine.

“Amy?” Sonic queried, slowly focusing on what to do before he gradually got his eyelids to obey so he could look at them though he froze seeing something rather unsettlingly different.

“What’s wrong?” They asked, kneeling in front of Sonic who blinked several times as he stared at them.

“You are both.. so blue.” Sonic mumbled, staring at them in confusion.

“What?” Mephiles pinned his ears as he studied Sonic’s eyes wondering why he would say that as Amy simply looked at her own arms.

“No, I’m still pink.” Amy said, looking back at Sonic.

“Well everything I see is just blue, like myself.” Sonic admitted.

“Hmm.. that is irregular.” Mephiles mused. “He must have hit his head in the fall.”

“Fall?” Sonic tilted his head.

“You were knocked out of the fight with Eggman.” Amy informed him. “Don’t you remember?”

“Not really..” Sonic denied before starting to giggle. “All I know is I’m blue.”

“Mephiles, do you think he needs a doctor?” Amy inquired, looking at the purple crystalish hedgehog.

“Most likely.” Mephiles confirmed, finding Sonic to be rather delirious though he froze noticing blood dripping behind his son making him pin his ears as he moved over and checked Sonic’s head only to find it was in fact bleeding. “Sonic are you feeling dizzy?”

“Yes.” Sonic confirmed, looking back at Mephiles. “Why?”

Mephiles stared at him for a moment before shaking his head and getting up. “He needs immediate medical attention.” He said, reaching down and pulling Sonic to his feet only to make the blue hedgehog stumble and fall in his arms.

“Heh, I’m blue, da-ba-dee-da-ba-di.” Sonic giggled, starting to feel the crazy loopiness kick in.

“Yeah… you should probably hurry.” Amy commented, watching her best friend laugh in a delusional state. “I’ll tell the others you’re going.”

Mephiles nodded in agreement before picking Sonic up into his arms making him laugh even more thinking he was being tickled as he was pulled up into the air.

“Don’t worry Sonic, we’ll get this dealt with.” Mephiles promised, holding his son close before flying off through the city to get to the hospital for this was the most unusual case of a concussion he had ever seen or heard of.

“Blue is the best color..” Sonic smiled groggily, laying back in Mephiles’s arms so his head now hung upside down making it easier to see the individuals below. “The streets are blue and all the trees are too.”

“Sonic, stay focused.” Mephiles interrupted, carefully pulling Sonic’s head back up to where it rested up against his chest for support. “Now try to keep from moving your head too much.”

“Oki dada..” Sonic giggled, staring at himself as he admired his fur. “Blue is the color of all that I wear..”

Mephiles’s ears flicked slightly, finding this to be a bit weird though he simply put his attention back to flying as fast as he could till he soon made it to the hospital where he landed easily and went inside.

Hearing Mephiles get help Sonic glanced around curiously as mobians and people here walked around all having different blue tints. It was all so cool and he couldn’t help but to smile as he was suddenly moved and he paused finding Mephiles to be following someone into the hallway where they soon made it to a vacant hospital room that they went inside before Mephiles set Sonic down on the nearby medical bed.

Sitting around Sonic glanced about wondering what was happening as a doctor came into the room and talked to Mephiles for a minute to find out what happened so the doctor could help figure out what was wrong with Sonic who startled fiddling with his fingers.

“Alright Sonic, let’s start with some basic tests.” The doctor announced, stepping in front of Sonic and taking out a flashlight that he used to test the blue hedgehog for a concussion.

Reluctantly obeying each instruction the doctor gave Sonic remained mostly silent till the doctor started to tamper with his wound.

“Ouch!” Sonic yelped, immediately trying to pull away though the doctor was persistent and did his best to help with his delicate injury.

Once the checkup was all done along with helping to patch up the wound the doctor turned and went to Mephiles who stood by watching them closely.

“Alright, I have gathered the information needed and it appears your son has gotten a very rare concussion that has caused some trauma to his brain that can only register one color in all shades of apparent blue.” The doctor explained, glancing at Sonic who was still giggling a bit.

“Is there anything that can help? Or will he get better?” Mephiles inquired, crossing his arms over his chest wanting to get to the point.

“Yes he will get better, this kind of trauma will recover fully in about four to six weeks.” The doctor confirmed. “He will of course be dizzy and have headaches for the first two weeks but we can get him some medication for that.”

“So he will keep seeing this color for a month?” Mephiles questioned, finding this to be rather disturbing.

“Yes but not to worry it is nothing harmful.” The doctor assured him. “He has narrowly avoided anything damaging so he will be perfectly fine.”

“Alright.” Mephiles nodded slightly, walking over to Sonic who was trying to stop giggling as he hummed a goofy little tune.

“I’m blue, da-ba-dee-da-ba-di.” Sonic murmured, strangely having a good time for someone who narrowly avoided an emergency.

“Come on Sonic, it’s time to get you home.” Mephiles told him, effectively bringing the song to a stop as Sonic looked up at him with a big grin.

“Okay.” Sonic replied, allowing Mephiles to pick him up as if he were a baby.

Without a word Mephiles left the room and headed to the front desk where he did some paperwork before he left with Sonic secure in his grasp. They then flew away from the building and headed home where Mephiles quietly landed on the stone path leading from the gate to the porch stairs.

“I have a blue house.” Sonic gasped, still being quite dizzy. “With a blue window!” He exclaimed excitedly as they went up onto the porch.

“Yes, it’s very exciting.” Mephiles agreed, not really seeing it since the house was clearly dark purple with white trim. “Now, let’s get you to bed.” He said, opening the door and going inside before heading upstairs to Sonic’s room where he helped his son take off his shoes and get in bed. “You need to get plenty of rest now, alright?”

“Uh-huh.” Sonic mumbled, watching as Mephiles tucked him in. “But dada..?”

“Yes?” Mephiles queried.

“What is other colors?” Sonic wondered, being too dizzy to think about it due to the blood loss and head trauma.

“Hmm.. go to sleep.” Mephiles smiled, knowing Sonic was trying to stall but he wasn’t swayed by it and simply kissed his forehead.

Yawning from the gradual wave of sleepiness Sonic slowly relaxed as he tried to calm his headache that faded a bit as Mephiles used his powers to gently push Sonic into unconsciousness so he could rest without interruptions.

“Sleep tight.” Mephiles whispered, double checking Sonic before turning and walking out of the room. “I’ll be back to check up on you soon.”

Shifting a bit, Sonic snuggled up in his blankets as his sleeping mind realized something, all day and all night everything he sees is just blue.

The end.
