May 13, 2019,Seattle Grace Hospital.
Buck limped into the hospital and he was in complete agony and every time he moved his leg he would get a pain in his leg and he would actually fall to the ground.
Buck tries to walk up to the desk where they admit you but he ends up collapsing.
Jackson Avery was on the admitting desk as he had recently broken some rules as Jackson chose to walk out of an O.R while a gunshot victim was being treated but it turned out that the gunshot victim was the shooter and Jackson didn't like that they were trying to save him and he told Dr Teddy Altman that they should let him die.
When Richard found out he was not impressed and he told Jackson just because he comes from a rich family and has never had to fight for anything in his life does not mean he gets to decide who lives and who dies.
Richard told Jackson that he wasn't allowed to be near a patient as he was suspended from the O.R and he was not allowed to treat any patients until he was satisfied that Jackson learned his lesson so Jackson's only other option was helping with patients who came in.
Jackson sees Buck come in and he can tell the man is struggling to walk as he is limping and Buck's face tells Jackson that he is in pain and he sees Buck collapse.
Jackson runs to Buck and he feels for a pulse.
“I need some help out here.” Jackson shouts out.
Meredith and Alex come rushing through the doors and they see Jackson in front of Buck.
Two nurses come running and they have a gurney.
“Let's lift him on the gurney, be careful of his head.” Alex says.
Once they have Buck on the gurney they transfer him to a room.
“Someone page orthopaedics and get Dr Lincoln down here immediately.” Meredith says.
“On it Dr Grey.” A nurse says.
Meredith sees that Buck has a prosthetic leg after she cut his pants.
“Do we call Robins down here as well?.” Alex asks.
“No, not yet.” Meredith says.
“Lexie, get in here.” Meredith shouts out.
Lexie comes running in and she wonders what her sister needs her to do.
Meredith has recently been made chief of the ED and she has been making sure that all the interns and residents have been learning different parts of the job and Lexie has been learning orthopaedics.
“What do you need?.” Lexie asks.
“I need you to examine the patient and then tell me what tests he requires.” Meredith says.
Lexie goes over to Buck and she examines him and she makes sure she is thorough and she notices that his prosthetic looks infected.
“Ok I'm going to need a head CT, X-ray on his leg as well as blood drawn just in case other parts of his body have started to be affected by the infection from his leg.” Lexie says.
“What else?.” Meredith asks.
Lexie thinks and she can't think of anything as she goes through the check list in her head.
“Let's also look for any ID so we know who this is as he could have allergies to any medication that we plan on giving him.” Meredith says.
“Was there anything else DR Grey?.” A nurse asks.
“No, that's everything.” Meredith says.
The nurse leaves the room and goes and does what they have been asked to do.
“Jackson you go back to the admitting desk.” Meredith says.
“I'll help Lexie with the patient.” Jackson says.
“Jackson you will go back to the admitting desk as that's what you've been told to do.” Meredith says.
Jackson looks at Meredith and he then turns around and walks away.
“Meredith I completely forgot about the ID thing and I'm sorry.” Lexie says.
“Lexie, you know that is one of the basic things to check for, so what the hell is going on with you?.” Meredith asks.
“Nothing, I'm fine.” Lexie says.
Meredith looks at her sister and she knows she is lying to her.
“Alex, can you stay with the patient while I talk to Lexie?” Meredith asks.
“Yeah it's fine.” Alex says.
Meredith and Lexie go to Meredith's office and once inside Meredith locks the door and the two sisters sit on the couch.
“Ok talk to me?.” Meredith asks.
“I'm fine, honestly you don't need to worry about me.” Lexie says.
“Lexie you are not fine and you have not got your head on straight as you would've thought about making sure the patient doesn't have any allergies to the medication that we give out so I'm going to ask again what's going on with you?.” Meredith asks.
“I don't know I thought I was doing ok after me and Mark broke up but clearly not as I'm screwing things up in my job.” Lexie says.
When Mark told Lexie that he was Bisexual and that he needed time to figure out that new side of him things haven't been great for Lexie as she honestly thought her and Mark were going to go the distance.
“Are you struggling since your break-up from Mark?.” Meredith asks.
“I honestly thought he loved me, Meredith.” Lexie says.
“Lexie I hate that you had you're heartbroken but Mark did love you as he was honest with you and the fact that he told you shows how much he loved you and respected you as well.” Meredith says.
“Thanks, I am so glad I have you as my big sister.” Lexie says.
“Well you have 2 others but I know I'm the coolest.” Meredith says.
When Lexie started at the hospital Meredith already had a strong bond with Amelia and Maggie and they all acted like sisters but they made sure to let Lexie in and they became stronger.
“Lexie, there is someone out there for you so just let it happen ok.” Meredith says.
Lexie nods and she knows she needs to be professional as she can't afford to make mistakes.
Both sisters get up and they leave Meredith's office and head back to the patient.
Link is in the room and he is examining Buck and he sees both Meredith and Lexie walking towards him.
“The leg is very infected so he is going to need surgery as I need to get rid of the infected bones but I'll need to wait for him to wake up.” Link says.
“We will let you know once that happens and I've put Lexie on this patient as well.” Meredith says.
“No problem.” Link says.
“Lexie has ordered the necessary tests and once we get them back he should be awake as he may be allergic to certain medications.” Meredith says.
“Ok then let me know once you get the X-rays back.” Link says and he walks away.
Lexie goes and makes sure that the tests she needs have been ordered as she can't let her patient down and she won't be one of those people who let their ex boyfriend affect their work.
Meredith knows her baby sister is good at her job and she is going to make a great doctor but she needs to make sure that she gives 100% to her patients.
Derek and Mark come walking towards the nurses station and Meredith goes and makes sure that things stay professional.
“Meredith, I need to borrow a resident for an operation.” Mark says.
“What operation are you doing?.” Meredith asks.
“He is probably doing some boob job on some bimbo.” Lexie says.
“Yes Lexie I'm doing a boob job but it's on a woman who has had to battle cancer and wants a breast reconstruction.” Mark says.
“Let me look through the schedule.” Meredith says and she looks on the computer and sees that there are three residents available.
“Ok you can have, Wilson,Schmitt or Adams your choice.” Meredith says.
“I'll take Schmitt.” Mark says.
“Ok he should be in now.” Meredith says.
Lucas Adams,Levi Schmitt and Jo Wilson come walking up to the nurse's station.
“Right on time you three. Dr Schmitt you're on Dr Sloan's service today.” Meredith says.
Schmitt looks shocked as he didn’t think Dr Sloan would ever want him on his service.
“Get ready to be looking at boobs all day Levi.” Lexie says and she gets up and walks away.
“What Lexie meant is that you are helping Dr Sloan with a breast reconstruction as a patient had breast cancer and they are now able to get their breast reconstruction but I want you to show the patient respect and listen to her concerns.” Meredith says.
“Not to sound rude, Dr Grey but surely a woman would be better at helping Dr Sloan with this operation?.” Jo asks.
“I would prefer Dr Schmitt as this woman may feel uncomfortable with another woman and she may feel like you are judging her plus I believe Dr Schmitt can handle this as he has proved himself over the last few months.” Mark says.
“I understand Dr Sloan good luck Levi.” Jo says.
“Dr Wilson you are with me as it's your first day of your Neuro rotation.’ Derek says.
“Don't worry Jo you'll be fine I promise.” Meredith says.
Derek and Jo leave and Mark and Levi leave as well.
“That you leaves you with me Dr Adams so get ready to hit the ground running.” Meredith says.
“I'm ready.” Lucas says.
Lucas and Meredith go and start checking on patients that Meredith treated last night.
Lexie goes back to the patient and she sees that Alex is still there and she smiles at him.
“Look whatever is going on in your private life you need to put it behind you when you step through these doors and I know Meredith is trying to be supportive but I'm not afraid to tell you like it is.” Alex says and he leaves Lexie to look after her patient.
Lexie knows that Alex is being honest and she is glad that he won't sugar coat anything for her.
“Let's find out who you are.” Lexie says to the man.
Lexie looks through Buck's jacket pockets and nothing there, she then looks through his jeans and she finds a wallet and she opens it and sees the I.D and sees that it says Evan “Buck” Buckley.
“Where have I heard that name?.” Lexie asks herself.
The more Lexie looks at Buck the more she thinks she knows not only his face but his name from somewhere.
“Oh my god.” Lexie says and it hits her that she is looking at the firefighter who survived the truck bombing.
