Chapter Text
Starr park, 17 years ago
Charlie opened her eyes to see an older male nurse standing over her.
“How are you feeling ma’am?”
Charlie felt exhausted. She’d been in labor for nearly 30 hours. Her eyes wide wide as she remembered.
“Where’s my baby?! Did it make ok, is the baby fine? The pain was so great I passed out and-“
“Ma’am, no need to worry, the delivery while complicated was successful. I brought the little guy along. Seems only right that he should meet his mama.”
Charlie held out her arms as the nurse handed her the little blue bundle. Charlie wanted to cry tears of joy just looking at him, this life she had made. He looked up at her then, he had the same dark eyes she had but with a little tuft of black hair. He got that from his father.
“Have you any decisions on what to name the boy?” The nurse asked.
“Yes, I’d like to name him, Edgar. After my grandfather.”
Charlie felt a little baby in her arms, shivering, she looked over to her seat where the hospital staff had put her regular clothes.
“ Excuse me, can you hand me my scarf,I think it’s a bit chilly in here for him.”
The nurse handed Charlie her thick start and she gently wrapped it around her baby boy, her sweet little Edgar. another nurse opened the door to the room.
“Um miss Charlie, you have a visitor.”
“Is it the child’s father?” The male nurse asked.
“No, actually it’s Miss Charlie’s father. A Mr Sirius.”
Charlie instinctively held her son protectively close as soon as she heard that name then heard the doors to her room open again.
“Ah, there she is, my little girl all grown up.”
Charlie didn’t look forward, she only looked down at her son, hoping somehow that would just make him go away, but she knew it wouldn’t. She felt his cold hands touch her shoulder.
“Come now my dear, are not going to show your old man his new grandchild?”
Charlie tried her best to show her father, Edgar.
“Ah, a grandson. How wonderful. Now our family legacy is all the guarantee to live on. What did you name the boy?”
“E- she gulped. “Edgar.”
Sirius frowned.
“Oh…odd choice. Naming my grandson after that charlatan ex father-in-law of mine but no matter. He is still family, after all, even if I wouldn’t have chosen that particular name for him what’s done is done, I assume as soon as you are cleared to leave the hospital I will have moving men take your possessions and move them into my home immediately.”
“No! I mean, father, that’s not necessary.”
“Of course it is. You can’t raise this child all by yourself. What will people think of they see the great Sirius’s own daughter raising her child on her own? I did that filthy shack with the bad wiring, no no no no that will not do. Besides I have staff and a moment notice we’re ready to take over most of child’s necessities and in the meantime, you can focus on your act.”
“I’d really rather just stay with Edgar for the time being, father. After all, he was only just born and-“
“ Nonsense. i’ll let you recoup for now, my dear, and in the meantime, I’ll make all the arrangements after all you’re going to need the rest before you can begin practicing again. After all our craft is that of the theater and the theater waits for no one, it doesn’t care if you’re tired or if you’ve had a child or anything else it demands sacrifice and unfortunately, you will have to make that sacrifice, but rest assured my little grandson will be taken very well care of.”
Sirius looked down one more time at little baby Edgar.
“After all he’s the heir to something truly extraordinary in our family, something most would envy or fear.”
