There is a monument on Korriban, a tall triangular obelisk. The writing on it was carved deep, once, and the edges were sharp. Now, the edges are smooth and the writing is faded. Still, the obelisk can be read, and it tells of a powerful Sith who fell in battle during the Great Hyperspace War. The monument tells the story of how their body was lost, taken by Jedi after a brutal battle where the warrior slew many Jedi. It praises their strength and sacrifice and announces that even the Emperor of the time mourned them and respected them as her rival.
And perhaps that last bit is true. After all, if the Emperor hadn’t respected them as her rival, what reason would she have to kill them? What reason would she have to bury the body deep within the sands of Korriban and then try to ensure none of their supporters would dig them up and try to resurrect them by building a monument to their memory above their secret grave? And why else would she falsify that memory, carve the monument full of lies?
Ah, yes, the Emperor respected them as a rival. That is the only true statement about her she ordered carved into the obelisk.
