Work Text:
Two different people bound together. The moon goddess and the queen of the sun. One is calm and serene but cold-hearted. One is warm, fiery and passionate but hot-headed. They were never meant to be together and yet fate surprised them with an unusual love story.
“My favourite love story is how the Sun loved the Moon so much that the Sun died every night to let the Moon breathe,”
~ Welp, shit happens this story is a crack. The sun hated the stillness of the moon and back and the moon became allergic to the sun by thinking the sun is sticky and itchy.
The duty of standing at the centre of the universe to provide light on the planets was the duty of the goddess of the moon. Not until the proud queen of the Sun entered the scene and produced the brightest lights that everyone loved and the light of the moon was outshined.
The bright lights of the fiery queen of the sun are so powerful that it produced so much life and energy from the ground. Every day, people gathered together to worship the queen of the sun. Everybody loves her warmth. In contrast with the coldness of the goddess of the moon. The once solely being that produced light over the grounds was seen as darkness. People hid in their houses when she rose at the centre of the universe, thus, the beautiful face of the moon goddess was no longer admired and seen by many.
Blue Moon.
People felt alive by daylight and fell asleep at night time. The duty of the queen of the sun is almost over as the sun was seen setting. It’s time for the moon to step on the pedestal and hold the torchlight.
“Hello, darkness my old friend.” The queen of the sun greeted the goddess of the moon with a smug smirk.
In the queen of the sun’s perspective, the goddess of the moon is always gloomy, weird and talks so rarely. She’s always seen with the morning star or Venus as we called but other than that, she’s a loner. The goddess of the moon glared at her as she stole the torch on the queen of the sun.
“Now, no need to be so harsh. We haven't been introduced properly. Your name is Columbina, right?” the queen of the sun asked, “My name is Sandrone, I am the queen of the sun and everybody loves me.” she bashfully said while the goddess of the moon huffed in annoyance and ignored the latter’s presence.
In Columbina’s perspective, the queen of the sun annoys her to death. Not only she stole everything away from her but Sandrone is so bright it hurts her eyes to see her, her energy is a nuisance, the queen is surely loud as she complains a lot. The queen that is bashful and cocky,
“Are you mute?!” Sandrone was irked by the silence of the moon goddess.
To add on Columbina’s list, the queen of the sun is hot-headed and angry 24/7. She could see the fiery red aura that the queen exudes but what she failed to see was how her own silver aura softens the gaze of the queen of the sun and calms her down.
‘There’s something about the moon that calms me down.’ Sandrone thought she saw the goddess of the moon finally paid attention towards her and it made her smile.
“Your rest time is my work time so scram.” Columbina briefly dismissed her as she focused on her duty. Sandrone noticed something different from the goddess of the moon, “You’re turning blue.” she said.
“There’s something about the atmosphere that makes me sick, maybe it’s the fact that the sun is already set and you’re still here.” Columbina sneezed and her hold on the torchlight almost slipped.
“Blue moon?”
It’s a phenomenon that the queen of the sun rarely sees. The goddess of the moon didn’t bother giving her a reply but that intrigued the queen of the sun more.
“You don’t look so bad in blue.” the queen of the sun told the goddess of the moon as she retreated back to her royal castle.
“It would be great if you didn’t come.” the goddess of the moon told herself as she felt bitter emotions passed inside her.
‘Nobody likes the moon.’ Columbina gently weeps as she sees no one on the ground come to watch her.
The goddess of the moon craved to be seen. She wants the people to adore the midnight sky and love it like they love watching the sunrise.
***
Summer Solstice.
It didn’t help Columbina to feel better when the Summer solstice came. That means, The queen of the sun will hold the torchlight much longer than the goddess of the moon.
She watched as everybody on the ground adored the light of the sun. They were smiling brightly in contrast with the sadness in their eyes when the moon appeared.
“I am the centre of the universe.” Sandrone declared as she noticed the goddess of the moon watching her. The goddess of the moon rolled her eyes. ‘How haughty this queen of the sun could be?!’
“Not after the night comes.” the goddess of the moon threw her an intense icy glare.
Sandrone snickered a laugh, “Your favourite season must be winter, you're frozen cold.”
“Yours must be summer, you're hot and itchy.” Columbina flatly commented.
“At least I'm scorching hot.” The queen of the sun conceitedly proclaimed and gave Columbina a suggestive wink.
‘Ha, the audacity!’ The goddess of the moon breathed heavily to calm herself.
“I'm the coolest anyway.” she exclaimed.
What surprised Columbina was how the queen of the sun didn’t contradict her statement.
“Yeah, you’re the coolest,” Sandrone sincerely told her, “You better get used to my beauty, I will hold this torchlight a little longer.” and the proud queen was back.
“Don’t worry, the equinox is coming soon.”
Columbina hated the queen’s guts. Little did she know, the queen of the sun had a secret: she admired the goddess of the moon.
***
Autumn Equinox
Equinox means equal daylight and midnight for the moon and sun. The sun and the moon have to hold the torchlight equally for 12 hours.
The queen of the sun was looking at the goddess of the moon in secret. She recognized the needs and the wants of Columbina despite the mysterious aura she exudes.
Sandrone wanted to be friends with the goddess of the moon but she was too cold to be touched. They were opposite souls bound not to meet and yet the twist of fate made them meet each other.
“Everybody loves me, so why can’t the moon love me back?” she asked the universe and she hopes she gets her answer soon.
As the leaves fall in Autumn, the queen of the sun was also falling for the goddess of the moon.

Winter Solstice.
In the month of December, rare things happen. The goddess of the moon dressed to impress. Her coldness reached all the parts of the ground and her dim light was longer seen than the daylight. The moon’s energy affects the mood of the people during these days. Thus, people rest longer than they should.
“So, do you enjoy frosting the grounds?” The queen of the sun commented as she looked at Columbina and the grounds.
‘Her beauty is ethereal.’ Sandrone suppressed the admiration she felt.
“Everybody loves sleeping more than waking up, you lose.” Columbina told Sandrone when she noticed the queen of the sun observing her from afar.
“Well, not everyone is affected by the moon’s energy and depressed.” the queen shrugged.
“That’s what you failed to see, the moon’s energy doesn’t only encompass depression but also I shine bright for love and affection.” Columbina looked down at the two lovers on the ground as they danced slowly under the moonlight and Sandrone smiled.
‘The sun knows what people are doing during daylight but the moon knows their secrets at night time.’
“Columbina?” Sandrone called the attention of the goddess of the moon.
Columbina looked at her.
“Have you ever wondered how it would look like when we shine brightly together?” the queen of the sun asked the moon and Columbina gave out a small smile as an answer.
“I think it would look nice but we’re not really meant to do that.”

Spring Equinox.
March came. Equal day and night for the queen of the sun and the goddess of the moon. Columbina watched the grounds as the sun set. It amazed her to see the rain falling on the ground while the sun was shining bright hence producing a rainbow in the sky.
“Is it true that there’s a treasure at the end of the rainbow?” Columbina asked Sandrone as she waited for the torch to be passed on her.
“A treasure can be found everywhere.”
“You think so?”
“Yes, right now, I’m looking at one.”
And the goddess of the moon forgot to breathe at that moment.
“Have you ever wondered how it would look like when we shine brightly together?” the same question was asked but at that moment it was provided by a different answer.
“Let’s try.”
***
First Total Solar Eclipse.
When the sun and the moon shines bright together. Magical phenomenon happens. The eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth. The moon blocks the sun’s rays and casts a shadow on Earth eclipsing the sun. It’s a rare phenomenon when the queen of the sun and the goddess of the moon hold the torchlights together as they laugh with each other and their bodies tangle closely with each other.
“Have you ever been told that you’re beautiful?” Sandrone asked Columbina.
“I used to before you came,” the goddess of the moon said, “I used to hate you for it. I felt as if you took every love that the people have away from me. But now I know why they love the sun. You are warm and you make me feel loved.” Columbina genuine feelings were shown.
“I will sacrifice my light just for everyone to see your beauty.”
True to her words, the queen of the sun didn’t hold the torch for 30 days.

Polar Night.
The moon shines for thirty days and every one on the ground admired the light that the moon produced.
The polar lights or the aurora.
“I never thought you could produce such lights.” the queen of the sun said as she visited the goddess of the moon doing her duties.
“I can produce such light because I’m in love.” Columbina confessed as she shyly looked down.
The light she produced became a mixture of green, red and blue under the night sky. She saw the people at the ground watching it as if it was a show to be anticipated every night. .
The queen of the sun asked the goddess of the moon to bend down from the pedestal.
“Come here,” Sandrone wrapped her arms around the goddess of the moon, “Love looks so well in you.” and the sun gave the moon an endearing kiss.
For the first time, the sun and the moon touched and the ground has seen beautiful lights they have never seen before dancing on the night sky.
Total Solar Eclipse is only bound to happen for such a short time because the moon has a secret that the sun wouldn’t like to know.
***
Midnight Sun.
The sun knew about the moon’s secret. Columbina was promised to marry the morning star and Sandrone didn’t take it lightly.
“Why would you hide such a thing from me?!” Sandrone was burning with fire and Columbina felt as if she couldn’t reach the queen of the sun.
“I was promised to marry the morning star when I was young.”
The secret of the moon is sometimes too hard to be accepted.
“Is that why you are always beside the morning star?”
Columbina nodded as guilt pent up inside her.
“I will kill that Venus bitch!”
“It’s not her fault...”
Sandrone saw the looks on Columbina’s eyes. It was a mixture of sadness and hopelessness.
“The sun and the moon are not meant to be together.”
The betrayal of the moon was taken by the queen of the sun inside her heart that resulted in bitterness. Since then, for 60 days, she refused to give up the torchlight and overworked herself. There was no night for sixty days and the ground started to dry up.
That’s the consequence of the queen of the sun’s anger.
From then on, the sun and the moon refused to see each other and chose to work separately.

Six Months of Days and Six Months of Nights.
During the six months of days, the people on the grounds suffered from hotness of the weather and dryness of their land. Occasionally, the queen of the sun would cry and would produce flood on the grounds while the sun is strongly showing up in the sky.
Columbina knew she’s at fault but their personal lives shall not interfere with their duties. She called out Sandrone for it one day.
“This has to stop. You’re killing the people on the ground.” the goddess of the moon said.
“And what if I did?” Sandrone spat.
“I know you’re angry but the people are not at fault. It’s me. I’m the one who hurt you by keeping secrets and I’m sorry for that.” Columbina looked at the queen’s eyes sincerely. She saw how Sandrone’s stoic eyes slowly turned vulnerable as she read all the hurt that the queen was bearing.
“It’s so unfair…”
Columbina saw how the rain showered towards the ground. Sandrone was crying because of her and it hurt her doubled.
“It’s so unfair that the moon and the sun can never love each other.”
Sandrone gave up the torch to Columbina and didn’t show up for six months.
Columbina’s dim light became darker. For six months, the ground was scared of the darkness while the goddess of the moon was scared of losing the queen of the sun.

Twelve Thousand Years to the Longest Total Solar Eclipse.
After six months of nights, the queen of the sun set her resolve and went back with her duty. Summer solstice came again, but this time, the sun was hotter than before causing climate change on the grounds.
It went on for long years and the sun became hotter than ever. People started hitting the beach and loving the nights more. But it didn't make the goddess of the moon happy.
Silver and red.
The colors that never meant to be with each other.
The sun and the moon.
The celestial beings that never meant to love each other and yet they did.
They figure out that the only way to work civil with each other is to be back to being mortal enemies. Columbina was sad because despite her not marrying the morning star, Venus, The queen of the sun refused to forgive her. Columbina did everything for the queen of the sun to notice her.
“You look like a miniature of the statue of liberty but your height didn't make it to the cut.” Columbina shrewdly teased the queen of the sun.
“Excuse me, I'm the queen.” Sandrone retorted.
“And I’m a goddess.”
“So?”
“You pray to me.”
“I pray to no one.”
‘She’s still mad at me.’ Columbina thought as Sandrone ignored her and beamed the hottest light on the ground.
The weather was set to 40 degrees celsius and everyone on the ground had their aircon on.
When the Autumn Equinox came, Columbina knew that she’s still falling hard with the queen of the sun as the autumn leaves fell to the ground from the trees.
During the Winter Solstice, the queen of the sun was always late to attend her duties. Columbina knew it’s an excuse to see her less.
The Spring Equinox came and Columbina made sure they both attended to their duties in equal time. She remembered the old proposition that the queen of the sun told her.
“Have you ever wondered how it would look like when we shine brightly together again?” Columbina asked Sandrone and it surprised the queen of the sun.
"The last time almost killed my light. I do not want to repeat the same mistake I have made before." Sandrone said as her eyes refused to meet the pleading eyes of the goddess of the moon.
"I don't see why our love was a mistake for you. I didn't even marry the morning star."
"Does it make a difference? You still lied to me."
"Trust me again."
The queen of the sun felt ill so darkness came for 30 days as Columbina was left to hold the torchlight. She didn't know that the polar night that was used to be swirling with the lights of auroras would be this dull.
***
The goddess of the moon waited and waited for a long time for the queen of the sun to forgive her. After twelve thousand years of their riff, the queen of the sun finally came along and opened up her heart again for Columbina.
Occurs on a polar night, the queen of the sun walks towards the pedestal.
"I tried to forget you by being mad, but you make it so hard for me to stay away when all you do is pull me in to you."
Columbina bent down and wrapped her arms around the queen of the sun.
"We'll always find a way to be together." and their lips met again after thousands of years. It still lingers the same softness, warmth and familiarity that they both craved and longed for.
And the sun and the moon touched again for the second time on a polar night. The auroras were seen dancing brightly in different colors on the night skies and people on the ground were amazed at how beautiful it looked.
After the beautiful polar night, the queen of the sun gave Columbina a declaration of love through a free form poem and held the torchlight for the second time around with the goddess of the moon.
“The moon is really magnetic, you’re pulling me to you even after all these years.” Sandrone told the goddess of the moon.
“Is that bad?”
“No, I longed for it.”
“The sun and the moon, we will always be in the same sky. No matter how many thousands of years we rotate away from each other, we’re bound for each other.”
The goddess of the moon sings the poem that the queen of the sun gave her as they danced with each other at the center of the universe holding the torchlight with their hands intertwined.
And with that, the longest total solar eclipse occured as the two lovers refused to get out on each other's hold.
Two different celestial beings with the same advocacy, that is to provide light on the entire earth. They can't always touch each other and be with each other yet, they work together in sync to support life on Earth.
