Please Knock

Summary:

Jisung huffs, “I didn’t even know they were... you know...”

“Gay?”

“Yeah.”

“It’s not a bad word, Jisung.”

“I know! This is just new to me, okay? I’ve never even met someone who’s gay before!”

Minho stares at him, a bewildered expression on his face as if he’s grown a second head.

OR

Work Text:

Jisung doesn’t technically have to go to the studio today, but he’s got a bunch of ideas swirling around in his head and he wants to work on things. He knows Chan is in the studio today, it would be good to get his opinions and see if he can help hash things out with Jisung. He’s not sure if Changbin is there too, but Jisung would welcome his input as well. So, once he’s done with his practice schedules for the day, Jisung heads over to Chan's studio.

He doesn’t knock, because he never knocks. He just opens the door and- oh-

Changbin is there. Kissing Chan. On the mouth.

What?

What?” Jisung squeaks.

Chan and Changbin jump apart and look at him sheepishly. “Uh,” Chan says.

“Sorry!” Jisung says for some reason, “Uh... carry on. I’ll go,” he says quickly before turning around and closing the door behind him.

His feet take him back to the small dance studio that he knows Minho is in, completely on autopilot. His brain isn’t working. It stopped working the second he opened the door to that studio.

Chan and Changbin. Kissing. Is that even, like... allowed? They’re in the same group. They’re best friends. Best friends aren’t supposed to kiss each other, right? Jisung had never even considered the possibility that they would want to kiss each other. Do they... like each other? Is that allowed?

“Are you alright?” Minho asks when he sees Jisung wander into the dance studio. Thankfully he’s the only one in here. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“I saw. Something.” Jisung says dumbly.

Minho frowns, “I thought you were going to the studio to work on stuff with Chan?”

“I did. He was busy.”

“You’re being weird, what happened?”

Jisung knows he’s being weird, but he’s not sure how to stop. He sits down, on the floor, back against the wall, trying to chill out. “I might be freaking out a bit,” he says.

“Why?”

“I. Well. They were kissing.”

“Who was kissing?”

“Chan and Changbin. In the studio.”

Minho looks surprised for a moment, but then he just shrugs, “Good for them.”

“Why would they be kissing, though?!” Jisung says. He’s not sure how Minho is so calm right now.

“People like to kiss, Jisungie.”

“But... them? That’s weird, isn’t it?”

Minho's face does something that Jisung doesn’t like, especially not directed at him. “Is it?”

“Not like that!” He insists, realising how his crash out could be sounding, “I’m not homophobic, I swear! I don’t care that they’re both guys, it’s just that they’re... them.”

Minho's face softens a little, “Then why do you think it's weird?”

“I was caught off guard! What do you mean I can just open the door to the studio and find them kissing behind it now? Should I just expect them to be kissing all the time from now on? Why are they kissing? We're in the same group! We're best friends! Who kisses their friends?!” Jisung realises he’s rambling, but he doesn’t know how to stop, “And like... we're 3racha! Three! This changes the whole dynamic!”

Minho raises his eyebrows, “You feeling left out, Sungie?”

No! Well, not like that. But like... why wouldn’t they tell me? Do you think they like each other? Are they dating?”

“I don’t know, I think these are questions for them,” Minho says gently.

“What? Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You obviously have.”

“Well, I guess like, I know I must have but there’s never been anyone where I’ve actually known, you know?”

Minho only looks even more confused, “Are you fucking with me?”

“No...?” Jisung doesn’t understand what Minho is getting at. “Who do I know that’s gay?”

“Jisung.”

“Me? No, I’m not gay.”

Minho stares at him, and Jisung thinks he sees his eye twitch a little bit. Jisung just stares back, because he’s not sure what he's supposed to be realising here.

After a few silent moments, Minho raises his eyebrows at him as if to say well? But Jisung is still completely clueless.

Minho seems to realise that Jisung has no idea what he’s suggesting and sighs. “Me?”

It takes Jisung's brain a moment to catch up, “Wait, you’re gay?”

“Yes!”

“Since when?”

“Jisung. I have been openly gay with the group the entire time you’ve known me.”

“Oh.” Jisung thinks about it for a moment, but he can’t recall Minho ever mentioning that he’s gay. He can remember him mentioning certain guys being hot a few times, but Jisung never thought that being able to appreciate an attractive man makes someone gay. Men are hot, after all. He should probably say something positive and accepting so that Minho knows how cool with it Jisung is, but the words get scrambled somewhere between his brain and his mouth and what he ends up saying is: “So you’ve kissed guys, then?”

Minho’s face twists in slight bemusement, “Well, yeah.”

“What’s that like?” Jisung asks. His brain must still be broken from seeing Chan and Changbin kissing.

The corner of Minho’s mouth pulls up, “What, kissing guys?”

“Yeah!”

“I’d imagine it’s pretty much the same as kissing a girl? Just. You know. Not a girl,” Minho explains. If he thinks it’s weird that Jisung asked, he’s not showing it.

“You’ve never kissed a girl?”

“No.”

Hm. Jisung knows for a fact that Chan has kissed girls. But he’s also kissed Changbin.

“What guys have you kissed?” Jisung asks. He’s curious, okay? He hopes Minho isn’t about to tell him he's kissed one of the members too, he can only handle so many revelations in one day.

“Some guys that I danced with. And there was a guy at my school I was seeing for a while,” Minho tells him.

“Like, a boyfriend?”

“Yeah, kind of.”

Something else dawns on Jisung, “So have you like... had sex with a guy?”

Minho narrows his eyes, “What’s with the interrogation?”

Jisung shrugs, “Just curious, I guess.”

“Why are you so curious, Jisungie?” Minho asks, “Do you want to kiss me or something?”

Jisung freezes. Does he want to kiss Minho? He hadn’t been thinking about it, but now that Minho mentions it he’s suddenly... considering it. Jisung has never kissed anyone before, but Chan and Changbin are kissing and Minho has been kissing boys and Jisung didn’t even know people were out here kissing other boys but maybe he should be doing that as well...? He is curious. And Minho is... Minho. Surely there couldn’t be a better person to kiss than his best friend, right? He’d never make fun of Jisung if he's bad at kissing or anything like that, because he’s Minho and he’s always nice to Jisung, even when everyone else gets annoyed with him.

“Um... maybe?” he says quietly.

Minho blinks rapidly a few times, “I was only teasing, Sungie...”

Jisung’s heart drops like a stone, “Oh. Um, me too. Haha.” He tries to play it off, but he’s sure that it’s as completely unconvincing as it feels.

An uncomfortable silence falls over the two of them. Jisung looks away, cheeks burning.

After a few moments, Minho moves to sit next to Jisung on the floor. “We could, if you wanted to,” he says softly.

Jisung turns his head to look at him. He’s sat with his back against the wall, knees pulled up to his chest, staring straight ahead. His ears look a little pink, but Jisung can’t remember if they looked like that before. “What?”

“If you wanted to,” he repeats, even quieter. “You said you’re curious, right?”

“I’ve... never kissed anyone before,” Jisung admits.

Minho turns to look at him, and the expression on his face isn’t judgemental, or full of pity. It’s gentle, kind. “Do you want to?”

Jisung's heart is beating really hard, and he’s not sure why. “Y-yeah. Okay.”

Minho shuffles closer to him, until their legs are brushing. “Are you sure?”

Jisung nods, and realises all at once that he is really sure, he wants to kiss Minho. He doesn’t think about what that might mean.

Minho leans in slowly, flicking his eyes up to Jisung's for one last check before he closes the distance between them, passing his mouth against Jisung's gently.

Minho's lips are soft, and Jisung's stomach does a little swoop when they touch his. But it’s only for one second, maybe two, before Minho pulls away.

Jisung misses it immediately.

Minho is looking at him, waiting for a reaction probably.

“That’s it?” Jisung says before his brain can come up with anything more reasonable.

Minho blinks and him and then frowns, “What do you mean?”

“It was a bit... quick, wasn’t it? Don’t people usually kiss for longer than that?”

“It’s your first kiss! I didn’t want to overwhelm you!”

“Well...” Jisung sighs, and weighs his options, “I think you should kiss me properly.”

Minho huffs, “You’re so demanding. Was the first kiss not good enough?”

“It was good! That’s why I want another one!”

Minho’s face softens immediately, the corners of his mouth pulling up. “Fine, one proper kiss coming right up,” he says.

Minho leans in again, and Jisung meets him in the middle this time, taking the opportunity to actually kiss him back. Their lips move against each other, and Jisung has no idea what he’s doing, so he tries to follow Minho's lead even as his stomach swoops again and there’s a tingling feeling running up and down his spine. What he does know is that it feels good, he’s enjoying it, and when Minho does eventually pull away, he wants to chase after his mouth.

The pink from Minho's ears has spread to his cheeks. He must really like kissing. Jisung can understand why; if it feels that good then people must want to kiss each other all the time.

“Was that... better?” Minho asks hesitantly.

Jisung nods happily, and Minho shoots him a small smile before turning to look at the space in front of him, pulling his knees back up.

He doesn’t seem as happy about this as Jisung is. Did he not like kissing him? Jisung really liked it. He’d like to do it some more, but it doesn’t seem like Minho feels the same way.

“Am I a bad kisser, hyung?” he blurts out.

Minho glances back at him and shakes his head, “No, not at all. That was... a good kiss. Especially for your first time.”

Jisung grins, “So you liked it?”

“Yeah, Sungie. Did you like it?”

“Yeah!” Jisung is thrilled that Minho liked kissing him. Not that he has anything to compare it too, but he’s certain Minho is a good kisser, so if he said it was a good kiss then Jisung must be good at it too, especially since Minho is basically an expert at kissing boys- oh. “Wait,” Jisung says.

Minho looks at him patiently.

“If I like kissing you, does that mean I’m gay?”

“Um,” Minho says. “Not necessarily. But like... it doesn’t exactly make you straight.”

“Oh.”

“Do you feel okay about that?”

Jisung thinks about it. Would it be okay if he was gay? Or at least not straight? It had never occurred to him before that it could be a possibility, but the extent to which he enjoyed kissing Minho certainly does seem fairly damning. Minho is gay, and he’s the best person Jisung knows, so it must be okay. Chan and Changbin were kissing, and they’re the people Jisung looks up to the most. How could there be anything wrong with being like them?

“Yeah, I’m good,” he says. “Can we kiss some more?”

A laugh splutters out of Minho, “That easy, huh?”

Jisung shrugs, “If it means I get to kiss you, I’m all for being gay.”

“You don’t have to be gay,” Minho points out, “There are other sexualities. You can like both.”

That might be something to think about another time, but right now all Jisung cares about is getting to kiss Minho again. “Sure, hyung. But I want to kiss you specifically.”

“You’re being demanding again,” Minho says, but he’s smiling too.

“Yes.”

“Alright, come here,” Minho says.

Jisung goes easily, kissing Minho again like it’s something he’s well practised in rather than it being only the third time. He vaguely wonders if other people are as good at kissing as Minho is, but that thought is immediately derailed when Minho's tongue licks across his lips and Jisung gasps.

“Sorry,” Minho says, pulling away slightly, “Too much?”

“Nono,” Jisung protests, “It was good. Do it again. Please.”

Minho's eyes widen slightly before he kisses Jisung again, and this time Jisung is ready when Minho trains his tongue over the seam of his lips, opening his mouth readily to let him inside.

He gets lost in the feeling of Minho's mouth. Jisung can’t believe how much he’s enjoying this; he should’ve kissed Minho ages ago.

He ends up in Minho's lap, knees either side of his hips, and he up thinking about maybe doing something more than kissing. Touching Minho, or Minho touching him... he hadn’t actually answered when Jisung asked him about having sex with boys but maybe he- maybe they could-

“Woah.”

Jisung quickly breaks away from Minho and turns to see Chan and Changbin next to the door. Chan's face is all pink, but Changbin is grinning like it’s the best day of his life. Jisung rolls off of Minho's lap, landing on his ass on the floor.

“We’ve been looking for you,” Chan says, “So we could, you know, explain.”

“I guess we're even now though, huh?” Changbin adds.

Jisung scowls at them, “We are not even! I had a whole freak out and- and-" he glances at Minho, “And now I’m gay! And it’s all your fault!”

Chan frowns at him, confused. Changbin bursts out laughing.

“How is this our fault?” Chan protests.

“Yeah, Minho-hyung was the one with his tongue in your mouth!” Changbin says through his laughter. “If you’re gonna blame anyone surely it would be him?”

“The kissing was his idea, I didn’t do anything,” Minho grumbles, glaring at Changbin.

“Sure,” Changbin says. Minho narrows his eyes at him.

“Did you guys know Minho-hyung is gay too?” Jisung asks.

“Um, yeah?” Chan replies, “Everyone knows that.”

“I didn’t!”

“What? How?”

“I don’t know! There’s been a lot of revelations today, okay?”

Changbin scoffs, “Next you’re gonna tell us you didn’t know about Felix, or something.”

Jisung's eyes widen and he glances between his three friends, “Felix?! What about Felix? Is he gay as well?”

Minho sighs quietly next to him.

“Well, he’s bi, like I am. But yeah,” Chan confirms.

“What the- is everyone in our group into men?”

“Pretty much,” Minho says, “Although I’m not sure they’ve all realised it yet.”

“Wait were you guys just waiting for me to realise as well?”

“Minho-hyung certainly was,” Changbin says.

Jisung looks at Minho, “Really?”

Minho shakes his head, “No, Changbin's just being an asshole.”

“Hey-!”

“So, are you two together or what?” Minho cuts Changbin off, abruptly changing the subject.

Changbin's mouth snaps shut immediately and his ears turn a shade redder as he turns to look at Chan. Chan rubs at the back of his own neck, looking down at the floor.

“We're, uh, yeah, I guess so,” Chan stammers awkwardly. “We weren’t gonna say anything yet because it’s all kind of new but... yeah.”

“Are you going to be kissing every time I go into the studio now?” Jisung asks.

Chan’s face turns pink, “No! That was- we- we weren’t expecting you!”

“Are you going to be kissing every time we come into a practise room?” Changbin asks.

Jisung gets a weird twist feeling in his stomach at the idea that him and Minho could be kissing regularly. He... would like that. Not to be walked in on, because he isn’t super happy about the fact that the interruption made them have to stop kissing, but more kissing sounds absolutely ideal. Would Minho want that?

“No,” Minho says, “This is not even remotely the same thing as you two.”

Oh. Right. Minho was just helping Jisung out because he was curious. He probably won’t want to do it again.

“Why not?” Changbin asks. He’s looking at Minho similarly to the way Minho had been looking at Jisung earlier, like he’s missing something obvious.

“It’s just not. Don’t be an asshole.”

Changbin sighs, “Hyung, I swear to god if you don’t say something-"

“Maybe we should go, Bin?” Chan interrupts quickly.

“Say something?” Jisung questions, “Say something about what?” He’s so confused. He looks at Minho, eyes wide, but Minho's face is blank.

“Nothing, Sungie. Don’t worry.”

Jisung feels himself pouting. He hates not being told stuff, and Minho knows that. Changbin knows that too, why would he start talking about something Jisung doesn’t know? He looks at Changbin, “What’s going on?”

“Um,” Changbin says. He looks at Minho apologetically. “We should get back to the studio...”

He grabs Chan's wrists and practically drags him out the door, with nothing else but a “See you later,” from both of them and a muttered, “Sorry, hyung,” from Changbin.

Jisung is confused. Again. He’s lost count of how many times he’s been confused today.

“Hyung, please tell me what that was about.”

Minho shakes his head, “It doesn’t matter.”

“Come on, there’s something you’re all not telling me! You know I hate not being told stuff!” He’s pouting, and he knows he’s pouting, but he doesn’t care.

Minho looks at him for a long moment and then sighs, looking away. “Changbin thinks that I should tell you that I... I kind of, like you, okay?”

Jisung frowns, “Of course you like me. We're best friends.”

“No, like...” Minho sighs again, his ears getting pinker by the second, “Like, I like you.”

It takes a few moments to click in Jisung's brain, but then he understands. Minho likes boys, and he... likes Jisung? “Oh.”

“It doesn’t even matter though, you seriously don’t have to worry about it,” Minho says quickly.

“What? Doesn’t matter?”

“Yeah, just pretend I didn’t say anything, Changbin's just-"

“Of course it matters, hyung! Why would you say that?”

Jisung's brain is working very quickly trying to keep up. Minho likes him. No one has ever had a crush on Jisung before, he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to be doing with this information, but he’s very certain that it does in fact matter. Does he like Minho? Minho is his favourite person, and he just discovered he really likes kissing him. Does that mean he likes him?

He can’t imagine liking anyone more than he likes Minho.

“You’ve only just realised you’re not straight, the last thing you need is to be worrying about my feelings,” Minho says insistently.

Jisung disagrees. He doesn’t know what else to do, so he climbs back into Minho's lap, where he was before they were so rudely interrupted. He puts his hands on Minho’s shoulders and Minho gazes up at him with soft eyes.

“I realised I’m not straight because I like kissing you so much, silly.”

“But you probably want to... kiss other people? Figure out what you like?”

“I like you,” Jisung says firmly, then leans down to kiss the surprised look off of Minho's face. “I don’t want to kiss anyone more than I want to kiss you,” he murmurs against Minho's mouth, “I could never like anyone more than I like you.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m so sure, hyung.”

Minho grins and tugs Jisung down into another kiss, crashing their lips together. Minho's hands slide to Jisung’s hips as they make out, and Jisung's mind starts wandering to all the other things they could do aside from kissing...

What the-?

Jisung breaks away from Minho with a sigh of frustration. This time, it’s Jeongin and Felix standing in the doorway. Jeongin has his hands over his face and Felix's eyes are wide, his mouth in a perfect ‘o' shape.

“People really need to start knocking,” Minho mutters and Jisung begrudgingly removes himself from his lap.

“Is it over? Can I open my eyes?” Jeongin asks desperately.

“They’ve stopped,” Felix confirms, and Jeongin slowly lowers his hands, scowling at the pair of them.

“Why would you tell us to come practice with you if you- if you’re- busy?!” Jeongin demands.

Minho shrugs, “I forgot. I got distracted.”

“No one needs to see that!”

“Aw, give him a break,” Felix says, “Hyung deserves this after all that pining.”

Jisung's eyes go wide, “You knew?”

Felix smiles, “I’m amazed you didn’t.”

“He didn’t even know I was gay,” Minho tells him.

Felix's face morphs into pure confusion.

“He didn’t even know you’re bi either,” Minho adds.

“Oh Jisungie...”

Jisung points at Jeongin, “Did you know?”

Jeongin nods, “Everyone knows that.”

“Hmph.”

“Face it, baby, you’re a little bit oblivious,” Minho says, patting Jisung's leg sympathetically.

“Ewww what is this?” Jeongin complains, crunching his face up, “’Baby'? This is a workplace, hyung!”

“You’re just jealous,” Jisung spits back. He doesn’t even care if Jeongin thinks they’re being gross, or that he’s apparently the last to know everything around here. He’s too happy that he gets to kiss Minho and be called baby.

But he does send a message to their group chat insisting that everyone starts knocking before opening doors from now on, because he’s sick of getting interrupted. Chan, Changbin, and Jeongin all enthusiastically support his suggestion.
