Work Text:
“Dude. Why the long face?” Odd asked while laying down in bed.
Ulrich rested his chin on his leg. “Don’t you ever get the feeling that things are in a repeat? Wake up, eat, go to class, eat, do homework,” Go to Lyoko, he’d also say, but that’s something not in his roommate’s vocabulary. “Then go to sleep and start over.”
Odd hummed. “Well, now that you mentioned it, I guess that stuff happens.”
Ulrich raised an eyebrow. “And you’re not driven mad by it?” The brunet certainly was. Dealing with an evil A.I. and the constant Return to the Past were only the cherries on top of a sickening sundae.
“I would be,” Odd admitted. “If not for one thing.”
“What’s that?” Ulrich would take anything to get out of this loop.
Odd raised a finger to the sky and twirled it around. “I think about what I haven’t done.”
Ulrich blinked. “…Not sure that I’m following.”
The blond flashed a grin. “Of course not. I think someone like you always looks at life with a straight face. You have got to choose what you’re going to try to do if you want something new spice to your life.” He sat up and stretched, his pajama shirt riding up a bit.
Ulrich decidedly tried to keep his eyes on the blond’s face. “You act like I don’t try to find something new.” He bit back.
Odd’s grin only grew. “Oh, I think I’m sure of it. Your loop certainly didn’t mention something new, so I suppose I’ll be the one to help you figure things out from here.”
“What do you mean by that?” Ulrich dryly asked.
His roommate pointed at him with his wide grin. “We’re gonna go out tomorrow and go to the arcade after class. No homework, no friends, just the two of us, good buddy!”
I can’t really do that. Ulrich wanted to say, but then he thought about it more. What would be the worst outcome here? Jeremie’s stuck worrying about making the program to bring Aelita to the real world, Aelita’s in Lyoko, and Yumi… well… he can never really tell what’s up with her.
He’s wanted something new to break this routine for some time now. So why not take up Odd’s offer and go out? He doesn’t have much time to spend with his roommate when X.A.N.A., Lyoko, and his friends eat it up quite often.
“C’mon,” The blond whined. “It wouldn’t kill you to hang out with your good ol’ roomie y’know? It’s been a while!”
That was also pretty true thanks to the scare with X.A.N.A.’s killer music. Ugh…
“Fine.” He groused. “But you’re paying for the tokens.”
“Yes!” Odd cheered and flopped back onto his bed. “It’s a date!”
Ulrich flushed. “Odd!”
