Work Text:

... It's hard, it's hard to breathe in this world, too much is going on it's exhausting. You can't find anywhere to be yourself except on your own; there's something so isolating about struggling to fit in yet finding comfort in being by your lonesome without anyone bothering you. In a way, I guess it's not so isolating. Yet, on this particular night you can't help it, can't help shedding a tear or two or just starting off into space as you breathe heavily trying to hold your shit together; your mind swirls with every negative thought there could ever be about you, your failures, your looks, everything. There's always something wrong, isn't there? ... But then you see it, turning your head you notice a bright shining ball of white in the pitch black sky outside your window, the moon; grunting as you sit up to get a better view you decide to climb out of bed and lean against the windowsill.

It's almost hypnotic, the way the moon reflects off the window and glistens in the night sky, it's hard to look away. But you do after a minute or so, only then do you notice how quite and empty the street is. It's unnerving to you, it's so eerie compared to the sky up above but also peaceful knowing it's just you, no judging eyes, no people walking about, just you and the moon and a few twinkling stars above.

You take a deep breath starting to feel a bit drowsy as you stare at the moon, getting soothed by it's presence and gentle light almost like a halo. You just decide to shut your eyes and lean against the soothing coldness of the window, starting to drift of further, and further into slumber. That is until you feel two soft and gentle hands cup your face and the soft breaths of someone brushing against your cheeks. Your eyebrows furrow as you slowly blink your heavy eyes open as much as you can only to be met with...George? ... your eyes widen a bit as you stare in confusion before mumbling quietly under your breath "...Are you..." But before you can say his name, he nods before slowly leaning in and kissing your forehead so gently you can barely feel it, yet it's so comforting you can't help but shut your eyes and lean into it. You don't realise you're crying until George brushes your tears away with his thumbs, pulling his lips away from your forehead before whispering "Don't worry, yer going to be okay. You've been strong for so long it's time to rest, hm?" You stare at him for a moment before nodding and turning away from the windowsill and climbing back into bed, shuffling a bit under the covers and shutting your eyes as you feel him start to rub your head helping you drift off whilst humming a song so soothing and melodic you can't help but drift off to sleep.

After a while you're out like a light and George stands up, smiling before placing a moonflower onto your duvet as he whispers "Sleep well... I'll always be here if you need me, just look at the moon and I'll be looking back."

He then shuts his eyes and leans his head back before slowly fading away as his very being drifts into the night air and the moon appears to glow a little brighter tonight.
