All Foam, No Beer

Summary:

A collection of “Things You Said” prompt fills. Percy/Deja

Notes:

I just started the game earlier. This is not the pairing I was expecting to get into. Unbelievable

Obligatory disclaimer that the spring season is quite literally the only knowledge I have about the game, so if you notice discrepancies in the characterization, be a dear for me and nod along for now

Chapter Text

(things you said at the top of your lungs)

Considering that Percy had the date of the concert marked in his phone calendar for a while now, he has mostly figured out how it’s gonna go: he will take a detour, go to the concert, take another detour if he feels like it, and then crash into his hotel room for the night.

Easy enough. It always works.

But the one thing he doesn’t take into account, understandably so, is that Deja actually won two tickets from that band, with better accommodations and view and all. It’s for being a longtime fan, she explains without really explaining anything, because he is pretty sure he should also count as a longtime fan if that really was the only requirement. He pretends to be bitter about his sheer lack of luck and begs for her other ticket — What about me? I’m a longtime fan, too! — earning a scoff from her as she jokingly tells him to be better at being lucky next time. Before that conversation ends, she actually asks him if he wants to take her extra ticket, which he readily accepts. He instantly cancels his other ticket.

The other thing he doesn’t take into account is that his itinerary on the day of the concert no longer consists of big blocks of take a detour and take another detour, because being with Deja means Percy actually has to be more specific with what he wanted to do that day. It takes them a few hours of planning and back-and-forth — Lamarre, that’s too boring to do before a concert, countered by a, we aren’t going to that aquarium unless you want us to be extremely late to the venue, Tozaki — before they eventually settle on an itinerary that the both of them would agree with.

Percy takes another look at the itinerary. This kind of planning isn’t like him. He doesn’t think about that too hard, even when the setlist is already on his favorite song and he has brought his phone out to take a video of the performance. He’s seen the band a few times and he will continue to do so. Not having his eyes glued to the stage for the entire duration of the concert isn’t a big deal.

The sun is bright and the sky is orange and the wind is pleasant. The steady bass reverberates within him. He looks at Deja. She is all smiles and she’s the brightest he’s ever seen her. He doesn’t think about that too hard, either.

Somewhere along the way, Percy might have gotten too quiet for comfort, that or Deja has been keeping an eye on him, because she notices that he hasn’t been jamming along as much as he was earlier. She turns to him. Percy doesn’t budge.

Her lips are moving. The music is too loud and he can’t make out the words forming in her mouth.

“Huh?” Percy says. “Can you repeat that?”

Deja raises an eyebrow, and acquiesces. Same pattern; he still can’t make the words out.

Percy then yells, “If you want me to hear you, you gotta speak louder than that!”

Deja huffs. “I said,” she takes a deep breath, “the concert is up there! You’re wasting our tickets if you keep staring at me like that!”

Percy’s next words fly out of his mouth without a second thought: “I can enjoy your company and the concert at the same time, Lamarre!”

Deja’s expression is undeterred under his gaze. “You have plenty of chances to enjoy my company! We have the whole day planned ahead!” She turns back to the stage. “And your multitasking skills need a lot of work! Eyes up, Tozaki!”

Percy says nothing in response; he only laughs and does as he is told. His phone is still recording. Surely his phone has picked up their yelling in all its glory. He thinks about sending this video to Deja’s phone number as soon as they step into the train, and makes a mental note not to warn her to lower her volume.
