Work Text:
Charlie stared at his reflection, panting heavily as his eyes were tired and dead. Why? Why did HE have to do this? Out of everyone in the group, he was selected to carry out the deed. Wonderful…just absolutely wonderful…
With a heavy sigh, he grabbed his gun, hiding it in his coat before heading out. This was going to be a long night…
.
Charlie walked through the cold, empty streets, whistling as he looked around the landscape. So many empty homes, all void of light and joy. He wondered how society was even functioning with the lack of love around?… Sometimes it felt like he was going crazy with these types of thoughts swirling in his mind… Pfft, crazy…to think this negative mindset would land him a permanent spot within some crazy cult. Maybe everything was crazy. Crazy. Such a strange word.
"Piping hot cocoa! Made with natural ingredients and lots of love!"
Charlie softly whistled as he looked to his side, watching the warm lights begin to pop in around him. Weird, how could one part of the world feel like it was void of life, but the other had everything a man could wish for? It reminded him of some changeling, or something…just, something that sucked souls; this part of town was kind of like that, sucking the life out of the homes. Or perhaps it was the other way around…who knew.
"Come on, honey…we need to catch the bus back home!"
Figuring that he was stalling for too long, Charlie let out a hefty sigh, adjusting his scarf as he stepped onto the bus. Time to let the boss know the job was done.
…
"Alright, and you ensured you buried him far enough away?"
"Yes, sir. I buried him deep in the woods, away from any trails, and I even put a dead animal above the body," Charlie grumbled, his hands in his pocket as he looked to the ground. Shame filled his body, bubbling all over and ready to spill out…but he kept his composure together, looking up at his boss to maintain some sense of humanity. How dark had things become to where Charlie saw eye contact as showing humanity? His boss just nodded, turning away as he continued looking through his papers, acting like this was just a regular tuesday for him…which wasn't really a figurative statement.
"Alright. You may go now." Well, he was more than glad to leave.
"Thank you, sir." Charlie muttered, turning around to walk out of the room. His body felt…dirty. He might need to take a shower.
"…" The air around him felt fuzzy. It was sort of like walking through a bush of needles. Soft enough to pass through, but hard enough to scrape at his skin. He felt his face burning up…kind of hot in here…he adjusted his coat, huffing as he trudged through the facility halls. Just needed to make it to his dorm. That's all he needed to do. Man, it was really hot in here…did they have the heaters on? He scratched his neck, sweat drenching it. Man, he really needed that shower.
"…" It felt like his legs were dragging behind…come on…just a bit further. Were people watching him? It felt like there were eyes on him. Well, they can watch if they want, he was just walking. Walking. Man, his neck was really itchy. He exhaled slowly, his pace quickening. The walls seemed like they were melting. Huh, funny. He shook his head, his vision beginning to blur. Just a bit further. Was his dorm always this far? Seems strange…maybe they moved it. Yeah. They moved it….moved it…crap…he was burning up—his neck felt like it was on fire. He began to run, no longer caring if people were watching him. He. Needed. To. Get. Away. Get. Away. GET. AWAY
GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWAY. GET. AWA—
SLAM
"…" Safe.
.
As Charlie scrubbed his body, he couldn't help but stare at the scar on his shoulder. Hm, he'll have to patch that up. Pretty annoying since it meant he had to also patch up his coat. It was a nice coat as well…Hey, where did this blood come from?…Oh, right, he was picking at the scar…probably shouldn't do that. Oh well.
.
After his shower, he dried up, patched his wound, then dressed for bed. Not much else for his nightly schedule, kind of sad. He wished he had SOMETHING to do at least…maybe go out with friends…but the only friend he had was Ryan, and he was still pissed at him. Guess this night would be a party of uno.
Walking over to his fridge, he grabbed a couple of beers, some snacks, and went back to plop down on his couch. Well, when all hope was lost, down a beer. Maybe even have a pie. A nice, warm, flavorful shepherd's pie.
