Work Text:

I would walk outside to find a small trail of ants creating a path one by one, they crawled on the grass and lured me too them even though their scent of rotted walnuts pushed me away usually.
I travel across the overgrown grasses of my yard until i reached the old wooden fence with vines rotting it and saw a small peak of light that the ants willes their way through, i shifted the vines and found a small disk of wood missing just big enough to squeeze through so i did following the ants into what must have been a huge doorway into the wilderness.
I traveled deeper into the lush forest filled with the sweet aroma of berries and wood along with the birds calls, even though the forest was lush and overgrown their was a constant dirt path the lid through but seemed to grow behind me covering my tracks seamlessly.
We as in me and the small but apparently mighty ants made it to the small river pathway, the ants seemed puzzled momentarily but then they found some drifting wood and crowded onto it, i followed them as the river pushed them downstream until they were close enough to the bank ro get out on the pebbled sand, i managed to leap over the water my feet muddied with the muddy sand on the other side of the bank but id quickly follow after the ants to a tall tree.
The tree stood still with its long drawn branches swishing softly in the wind as the ants passed under the plush branches i would gingerly follow the small bugs into it.
Under the canopy of magical willow like branches it was pleasant with a sweet smell that carried from a distant breeze and the once slightly harsh sounding wind calming into a rhythmic sort of hum, i stopped myself from getting too distracted and ventured to the trunk of the tree looking down to where the ants now started to enter the small hole slowly expanded to fit the ants then grew to roughly my size i pause admiring how the bark grew patterned with small details little swishes the looked like leaves and some small rodents and insects.
I ran my hand along the soft bark and willed my way into the dimly lit stairs and made my way downwards.
I found myself in a large wood build library with hundreds if not thousands of books that laid on wood craved shelves around the circular room, i then turned my attention to more towards the center a small fire with odd colored flames laid in a fireplace craves with wonderful designs and a small wooden couch laid in front if it, i approached slowly but was stopped by a booming voice, it was firm but smooth and soothing in a odd way.
"Greetings, welcome to my tree" the voice spoke in a elegant matter.
"Who are you?" I quizzed voice small but curious
"I am Xylia, goddess of the forest."
I paused i followed a trail of ants to a goddess?
"Come fourth." The goddess beckoned
I followed the demand and ended up standing infront a ever changing shape , i could make out some details such as the plush green tones of her hair the reminded me of the willow i entered from, the texture of her skin almost bark like and the fluidity of her eyes and clothing like a bubbling brook. She had a soft looking cloth that i assumed was a blanket drapped over her legs that were laying on the wood couch and two small red foxes curled on top of the couch by her feet aswell.
"Since your curiosity and bravery to follow my ants has interested me i will be willing to grant you three ... Wishes and such."
"Can i stay here ?" I said without thinking
The goddess chuckled but shook her head, or maybe heads.
I took a moment and decided my wishes and thanked the goddess before i began to feel sleepy.
I awoke under a pile of soft blankets somehow back in my own bed, had that all been a dream or had my wishes been granted?.
