Chapter 1: New year, new faces

Chapter Text

It was the usual morning at UA, students walking around chatting, boots clicking against the ground and the occasional students running in the halls, about to be late for their lesson. As the morning sun glanced through the window and the wind flew past. Bakugou and Kirishima were walking in the halls, on their way to their next class only to be interrupted by someone who was yelling outside.

“You better pick it up! You call this the future of heroism? Bullshit! Now pick it up before I make you” Someone yelled from outside. The two students quickly stopped in their tracks, their heads turned, seeing a man, maybe around his mid 30’s, training what looked like some of the upperclassmen. Who looked bruised, some clutching their arms, uniforms torn and some even on the ground. The students looked terrified, defeated and some eyes narrowed in defiance. But one thing that all the students had in common… their limbs were shaking, whether that was hands or their whole body.

“Who’s that?” Kirishima asked, glancing at Bakugou for just a second as he raised an eyebrow, wondering who the mysterious man who was making their upperclassmen shake and look like they went through a warzone.

“Why would I care shitty hair…” Bakugou said, his jaw tense and his fists clenched, but even Kirishima could hear the curiosity in his tone. Both stared for a moment at the man before them, his horns that curled on his head, the scars that lingered on his arms, his size which was not far away from All Might’s size. The man felt two pair of eyes stare at him from inside the school. He slowly turned his head ever so slightly to peer over his shoulder, getting eye contact with the two…

As soon as they got eye contact, both Kirishima and Bakugou froze up, even for just a moment, chills sent down their spines… They didn’t know who this guy was, but one thing was clear, he was not someone to mess with.

The sun slowly traveled over the sky, the chatter and energy started to slowly die down, replaced by a low hum in the air.

The last bell for the day rang, signally the end of another grueling day. Uraraka stood up, gathering her things as she headed out, planning to visit her teacher, Present Mic to get some help on her English assignment before the day ended. (I hope he’s there…) she thought to herself as she held the paper in her hands, one question blank.

As she stood outside the office, hearing voices inside, one being Mic and the other she could only describe as an older woman, smooth yet sharp. As she was about to knock on the door opened, hand raised to the door, it opened. Revealing a tall, elegant and beautiful lady. Her hair snow white with two strands of ice blue in it. Her skin was snowy and clear as ice, her eyes sharp, cold and calculating. But before Uraraka could even open her mouth, the lady walked past, not a word just a cold and chilling feeling lingered, her eyes traveling to the floor where a light layer of frost lingered…

“Who was that?” Uraraka mumbled to herself before her thoughts was interrupted by the chatty English voice she knew all too well.

The sound died down in the background, the sun slowly but surely settled over the horizon. Opposite the moon slowly rose opposite, claiming the sky once more as the night settled. The silent wind flew through the air, through the bushes and the trees. It was an entirely different city during the night compared to the day, two sides of the same coin.

But like a coin, it once again flipped, letting the sun up again.

Two figures bolted down the hall, other students threw themselves out the way, dodging, eyes following the running figures with raised eyebrows. Some looked mildly irritated, some looked mildly amused and few had a sympathy expression.

“Come on! Come on!” Kaminari said as he ran down the hall, his eyes wide as he rounded a corner, the wind flowing past him as he bolted down the hall.

“I told you! I’m blaming you!” Mina yelled as she ran past him.

They passed several students on their way. After some minutes passed, the bell rang out as they glided up to the door, slamming it open.
“W-we’re here!” Kaminari said Mina followed close as they entered the classroom. As soon as they opened their eyes… they froze… an awkward silence passed over the classroom.

“Wait a moment… You’re not Mr. Aizawa” Kaminari said, dumbfounded as he stared at the female teacher in the front. Her skin was dark, eyes yellow and sharp, glasses placed low on her nose together with her short and dark hair, which held a curly lock of white hair hanging over her face. But her fangs in her mouth didn’t go unnoticed as a small smirk crept up on the woman’s face.

She was holding a textbook in her hand, hand on hips, looking a bit bewildered for just a moment before her face relaxed and a smirk grew on her face.

“Ah, you must be Eraserhead’s new students, huh?” She spoke. Kaminari and Mina still had their dumbfounded look before quickly composing themselves, bowing several times in succession.

“we’re sorry”, “We didn’t mean to interrupt ma’am” they said in unison, their words fast and a bit shaky but the woman could sense their intentions were genuine at least.

“Seems like Eraserhead have his hands full this year” she said, sounding more amused than anything, closing the textbook with her hand. “Maybe next time, double check what door you slam open”

Mina and Kaminari gave an awkward chuckle as they rubbed their necks, their cheeks heating up ever so slightly as they slowly backed out

“Hehe… Yeah…”

“We’ll keep that in mind…” Both said as they backed out, slowly closing the door after themselves. Looking at each other, sharing a look together with a small whisper “Scary…”

But as they started running towards their own classroom again, they missed the grin hiding in the shadows, giggling to herself.

“Hmm… Seems like this year’s new batch is an interesting one indeed.” She said to herself, crossing her legs, leaning forward with her face in her hand, the grin never once fading as her head tilted. She took out a card from her pocket, holding it in front of her before letting it go in front of her, letting it fall to the floor as it expanded with a portal under. She jumped off the ledge, into the portal beneath her as the portal closed after her, leaving only a small card on the ground, a spades Ace.

A white glove carefully picked the card up between its fingers together with a sigh… “Ace, what have I been saying to you about leaving your cards behind like this” The male voice muttered, putting it in his pocket before slowly walking down the hallway. Disappearing around a corner.

Midoriya walks through the corridor, flickering through his hero analysis notes as he went through the mostly empty corridors. The morning sun was lighting up the hallways as he walked down. As he looked up, he spotted something in the distance, it was Aizawa, his homeroom teacher, and he was talking to someone. It was tall, muscular but lean, brown hair that were put up in a low ponytail together with a pair of black glasses and a pair of white gloves. Midoriya looked at the interaction happening before his eyes out on the training ground. As he observed the interaction, he quickly noticed something… off about it. Aizawa was an apathetic person and a non-sensical person who had strong opinions about things seemed almost like a different person all together. When this person was talking to him, Aizawa seems almost quiet… only adding things but not really arguing against him. Midoriya raised an eyebrow as he kept observing, only growing more confused but also curious. (who is this person?) he thought as his eyes followed their movement on, words dying before reaching his ears. The man was holding a piece to paper on his hand, gesturing to it occasionally before handing it to Aizawa who took the paper, quickly scanning through it before giving a brief nod.

A couple of minutes later the person turned around and walked off, leaving Midoriya even more curious and with more questions than he had from the start (Who was that mysterious person talking to Mr. Aizawa? Why do I feel like I know him from somewhere? And what is he doing at school?) There were all questions that lingered in Midoriya’s mind as the day slowly continued.

He and the rest of the class were waiting for the last class of the day to start and for the teacher to arrive. Deep in thought, lightly tapping his pen against his desk, the questions lingering in his mind as the interaction played repeatedly until a familiar voice snapped him out.

“Hey Midoriya, seems like something is bothering you…” Kirishima said as he looked over at Midoriya, his face held concern but not without a small trace of curiosity.

“Hmm? N-nothing is really bothering me per say… It’s just that I saw someone, an older guy, talk to Mr. Aizawa earlier today and he was acting so different…” Midoriya said, trailing off to the end as his thought ran deep again, only for them to be interrupted once again.

“Me and Bakubro also saw someone weird a couple of days ago, right Bakugou?” Kirishima said as he turned over to Bakugou only to be met by the usual scoff, basically a yes. “Right, he was quite big, full of scars with two pairs of horns, looking manly as hell” he said with a grin, bumping his fists together. “He was training the upperclassmen if we weren’t mistaken...” trailing off as the voice turned quieter and more serious “…They looked terrified” He mumbled as another voice spoke up.

“I also saw someone a couple of days ago outside of present Mic’s office the other day…” Uraraka said, putting a finger against her cheek as she thought about the encounter with the tall, strange yet beautiful woman.

“You think sensei Mic have a girlfriend?” Denki asked, his eyebrow raised, a none believing look on his face. Causing Sero and Kirishima to laugh, Sero slamming his hand into the table as tears rolled from his eyes in laughter.

“Hmmm? Midoriya, you said Mr. Aizawa was acting different, how so?” Momo asked, her brows furrowing a bit as if it felt like she was missing something here. Her eyes looked down, darting a bit as she looked deep in thought.

“Yeah, subdued. You know how he is, strict and uhm… unfiltered?” Midoriya spoke, thinking back to the morning.

A moment of silence passed through the classroom before Momo looked like a light bulb had just gone off. “Right! I know who you’re talking about” Momo said, her eyes lighting up as she put up a finger, causing everyone to turn to her, even Bakugou begrudged turned a head, curious about the mysterious figures he’d seen.

“They must be the third-year staff” Momo said, causing everyone to raise an eyebrow, wondering what she was talking about. But before she could continue Iida spoke up. “Right, they’re the staff who teach the third years just before they leave the school to become pro heroes.” He said as he pushed his glasses up a bit. “As far as I’m aware there are a total of 5 teachers for the third-years, one stricter and tougher than the other…” Iida spoke before being interrupted. “But what makes them so different from our teachers?” Uraraka asked, tilting her head slightly. “Well, to begin, they’re stronger, by a quite large margin” Momo said.

“Pfft! As if” Bakugou scoffed, crossing his arms. “For once I have to agree with Bakugou, All Might is our heroics teacher after all” Sero said, leaning back in his seat, glancing up.

“Let me explain” Iida said as he rushed up to the board and started writing it all out.

“The third-year staff teaches’ the third-year students, they’re 5 teachers in total.” He wrote up on the board. “I only know their active hero rank and hero name”

  • Ace 12th
  • Fang 10th
  • Eruption 9th
  • Yuki 6th
  • Shifter 5th - ??th

“Wait, why does one say “??”” Asui asked, putting a finger on her cheek.

“Well, I know he has a hero ranking from another country, but I can’t recall it for the moment…” Iida sheepishly said, rubbing the back of his neck a bit before clearing his throat and continuing. “As I said, the teach the third years and each being stricter than the last. From what I have heard from our upperclassmen, Shifter is the head of the whole hero department, making decisions about the syllabus. Because they train the students just before they leave the school means that they also have a say in what our, first-years syllabus looks like to make their work better, more efficient… A trait to admire” Iida mumbling the last part before getting back on track “I don’t know anything about their quirks, but from what I have heard, they’re no joke, some even says they’re in a league of their own when it comes to combat. But they produce some of the best heroes from the academy” Iida said, going on about some other information while waving his hand back and forth.

Bakugou sat in his seat, Iida’s words slowly quieted around him as he sat in deep thought. He was uncharacteristically quiet as he stared at the names and the titles these heroes held. His eyes narrowed ever so slightly, his fists and jaw clenched, yet another obstacle in his way to climb to reach the top.  (If what we saw earlier is anything to go off… and if what four eyes is saying is true… there seems there are more obstacles for me to pass… and a new league out there that I haven’t even consider…)
