Work Text:

The Sage was a terribly busy man, starting with his students' questions, grading essays and homework, and preparing lesson plans, which took a huge amount of time, leaving the setting sun as the only thing he could look forward to seeing when he finally got all his crap together. He couldn't take care of a child, not one bit, with all his existing duties, though he could probably start having Sapphire cookie babysit for him, not like he would complain. It'll probably do him justice if he starts cutting his lessons short by at least a good hour. Probably would do his students justice as well. Lately, he has been noticing that around the first-hour mark, he starts losing his students' attention. It's really a shame when these certain cookies come all across the country just to hear one of his single lectures... or more! If they do plan to stay longer, of course. Turning his head to the window, the sky shimmerd the starry night with stars raging all the high mighty... he feels like he is forgetting something, he despises this feeling to his very bone. He, the Sage of Truth, the Fount of Knowledge, he shouldn't forget anything that was just plain old cruel, but what could he even forget, looking back on old conversations? Nothing seems out of the norm.
"Tsktsktsk" Silence soon engulfed the entire room.
" ......!? "
The sage of truth's eyes widened as the realization hit him like a bullet.

"OH MY WITCHES HE FORGOT ABOUT THE KID!!!!

If the sage wasn't running at full speed on top of his lungs, he would've been shocked! He swore he could feel his hair ripping out of his head. He was full on sprinting across the town in the dark with full-fledged panic on his face; he just hopes a poor townsfolk sees him and starts to create a panic, he can already foresee another headache ready to happen. Now, how could he get so caught up in things and just forget about the kid?! Damn it! By now, the kid is probably dying of hunger. He doesn't really have much food at the house, he mostly drinks tea and eats cakes, cookies, etc.... witches he doesn't seem to remember giving the kid anything to eat as well, unless he's gotten into his sweets stash! Gosh, forget about that the kid is going to need some real food with protein and nutrients, well, cursed his crumbling theirs is no room for argument that no markets stalls are open at any reasonable hour like this. and it's already too late at night for anybody to be even awake… well, except maybe someone in particular wouldn’t mind me waking them up.
*Cough, Cough*
“Sapphire cookie”
He’s going to need to grab the kiddo real fast and then a quick teleportation!

Arriving at the spire, the fount couldn’t help but rush inside as fast as he could, calling out for the child in a frantically loud manner.
“KIDDO WHERE ARE YEA!”
“LOOK, I KNOW I’M LATE, AND I'M TERRIBLY SORRY FOR THAT, BUT WE'RE TAKING A TRIP TO A FRIEND OF MINE!!!”

Before he could continue his rambling, shouts were cut off by a hushed, quiet, fatigued voice, “A trip? This late at night…?” The sage could only give a small, half-sorry smile in response, “Sorry, but now there is no time for questions!” trying to stay cheerful for the weepy child in front of him. Before a response could properly be given, the sage was already wrapping an arm around the child's waist, who had been holding a blanket at the time, yelping at the sudden touch, and dropped his blanket in the meanwhile, which he was keeping to stay warm. The blanket was adorned with stars and constellations in a nice white embroidered pattern with a dark blue background made of cream sheepskin. The blanket itself was probably taken somewhere in his headquarters, as the cream sheep are a recently discovered species. The sage grabbed the blanket quickly as he picked up the kid into the icy-cold air. The kid gave a quick wince and shivered in response to the action. The sage, taking that as a sign, thus created the portal leading to Sapphire's home.
