Work Text:
A newborn was born in the year of 2000, quite fragile and special. But not in the eyes of the mother. What lies on this mother's eyes was a disgrace to the angel society, carrying wings yet no halo. Angels without a halo will never be considered an angel despite it being a slight malfunction. Since the father had left for drugs and gambling, the woman didn't hesistate to dump her own baby at the age of one on a remote town, where the streets are quiet yet dangerous. The baby sitting on the cold street looking confused as her own mother ran away without even looking. Wanting her mother to come back, the lonely baby started to cry and wail—hoping this horrible woman to run back and include her too.
Those cries were heard by a man in his mid twenties walking by. He stood infront of her with a worry expression, searching around for anyone that could own this pitiful infant. With a kind heart, he wrapped the baby into his arms and brought her to his squished apartment. Although the guy wanted to raise her as his own, he never had the experience of caring for a fragile being, which means he has to be gentle despite his rough choices.
Scott named the little girl, Teresha. The name goes after his deceased mother, wanting to remember her. As she grew up day by day, he worked 11 hours per day in his work office as an bank accountant, earning $87,349 per year to affort a much bigger home for the girl. In school, Teresha often gets teased by classmates and ignored teachers and staff.
The only friend she had was the school nurse, Amelia. A tall black-haired woman who usually treats her wounds whenever a minor accident happened due to bullying and being clumsy. Sometimes Amelia would struck a small conversation to the little child about their day or how she feels. Teresha even introduced the woman to her father and they both later started dating.
Slowly, her life has gotten better. She had a new mother that is loving, a set of two siblings which are twins and a great start ahead of her. After seven years of carefully saving up each half of his yearly paycheck, her father finally had enough money to move the family to a much bigger home right in a remote town were it's quite troubling yet promising.
When arriving, the town seemed nice, others were selling on their stands, kids were running around playing and the houses looked better than the apartment they had. Standing infront of their new home; Teresha had hope that starting today, her life would change in a way it would be unexpecting.
Since she didn't knew much around this town, the decision was to knock on her neighbor's door, hope it was someone the same age as her and tour her around. So she walked at her neighbors' front door and knocked on the door gently. The door opened and what stood ahead was a girl who was the same age as her, slightly long hair with a dress, looking like.. a demon?
No, she could be wrong right? Right? But it's right infront of her, a demon about her age. Seeminly friendly yet maybe it's just an act..
Those were Teresha's thoughts since the half angel had believed that demons were ruthless and disgusting, but this girl cleared it's specie's stereotype description. The person infront was grinning like a little kid ready to make new friends and it made Teresha wonder if maybe this new town wouldn't be too bad. But she had to be cautious.
"Hi-! I was wondering.. If you could show me around this place.. " she mumbled, looking away shyly. Maybe she should just walk away because this is embarassing asking someone who you thought their kind were literally digusting. “Oh yes!! I’d love to! First, you could tell me your name.” As they continued to talk, it seemed the person was quite interested in her.
The demon's name was Mary, just an only child with a single father. Then Mary brought Teresha around the neighborhood while chatting. Most of the boys couldn’t stop staring at her, and it was weird for them that the pretty neighbor was talking to the ugly freak.
After the tour, she waved Mary her goodbyes as she walked away gracefully. At that moment, Teresha saw Evan arriving at her neighbor's front door through the window. Laying down on the soft mattress, she thought of that first conversation between her and Mary. This demon seemed so genuinely sweet, not like those others she met years ago.
In the following months, Mary always hung out with her almost every day, also bringing Evan with them sometimes. When Teresha responds to compliments or says something nice from Mary, the green-haired girl usually stayed still, goes red and not speak for a while.
Sometime later, there were rumors that some people wanted Mary gone so that she could be close friends with them and also because Mary was a demon. Usually, when they had the chance, they would attempt to kill Mary in the stupidest or gruesome ways but failed most of the time.
The half angel felt concerned for her friend, she couldn't believe that such monster would try and attack this sweet person.
One day, Teresha wanted to confirm her suspicions. Lately, Mary appeared weird whenever they hang out and believes that the demon might had fall over heels inlove. She eyed at the door for a minute and gently knocked on the door. No answer was given. Few more knocks, still nothing. It's strange, the girl would always open the door but this made her even more concerned.
"Mary?" Teresha called out. Still no answer. Now this is getting really concerning and alarming.
Those thoughts rushed in her mind, pondering about anything that could have happened to her.
Until Evan patted on the shoulder and she instantly turned to him, hoping he knew where she had gone but his face looked like he haven't slept. "E-Ev.. Evan! There you are, have you seen Mary? I know she took a break last night and I hoped she was—"
"She's missing." he announced, looking away in sadness.
Missing..? No, Mary is MISSING? That can't be. We made a pact that we would never leave eachother's sides! Maybe she got kidnapped, maybe something bad has happened to her.... This can't be.
Those two words haunted her for a while. She didn't feel like eating, showering or basically doing any basic necessities. It's like her world was on the shattered despite having a happy family. Mary wasn't just her friend, more like a forever soulmate that stuck with her and made her feel in ease.
The twins tried to cheer Teresha up by silly tea parties, games, CD movies and anything they could think of. But nothing. Even Amelia's cooking that makes the family grin never brought back the smile she one had.
Her self-harm addiction has come back to bite her and she slowly started to cut her wrists secretly.
Each cuts sting yet the only thing that truly stinged was that she got away. The girl she cherished was the one who got away. Whenever there were new sets of fresh scars, she often wears her long sleeved sweaters that some reeked the scent of Mary who used to put on whenever they had a sleepover. Cried when she held all the gifts that were given by the sweet girl, thinking about her everytime.
"Birdie? Why are you in there for a while?" a young voice echoed behind Teresha's door.
Vivie was curious on why her big sister is recently locking herself up and even tried to ask her twin brother, Jacob about it but was met with a confused expression. So an idea popped out in her head to check on the best sister in the world.
The little girl was standing outside of Teresha's room with a tray of cookies with a side of fresh milk, calling out her older sis. "Sissyyyyy!!! Me got some yummy treat by help mama bake these choco cookies! Pweasee open, miss you!!"
No response from Teresha.
Vivie thought that maybe opening the door wouldn't hurt her sister despite remembering what her daddy said. But curiousity got to her and wanted to know if she was okay. After all, it's been a long while since there was a smile coming from the half angel.
"I OPEN THE DOOR SISSYY!!!! Really wanna give you cookies!" she giggled, slowly opening the door.
It was slightly dark but she could see something hanging.
"Birdie?"
It was silent, you could even hear the crickets chirping.
Vivie was quite worried so she put down the tray and went to open the lights, but what she saw. Wasn't too pretty.
There it was, Teresha hanged with a rope.
"Sissy..? Why are you up there? Come down now!" she mumbled in confusion. The little girl tried to shake her sister awake, but there was no answer, nor breathing.
Vivie started to wail for her sissy to wake up, not understanding why her precious sister isn't waking up.
Those wails were heard by Amelia as she rushed up to see if something bad happened. But to her shock, what happened was hanging infront of her.
